ASUS DSL-AX82U AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 Modem/Router $299.99 Delivered @ ThePrintCartridgeShop ($284.99 PB @ Officeworks)

270

I'm moving rentals soon and my new place hasn't got FTTP. I've been reading great things about this modem/router and thought this was a pretty good price…

The only other competitive price I could find was MWAVE for $357.95
JBHIFI selling it for $449.00 (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/asus-dsl-ax82u-ax5400-dua…)
Officeworks selling it for $447.00 (https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/asus-dsl-a…)

Note, this isn't the RT (router only) model.

First post, enjoy!

  • Good deal, I thought I was doing well getting it for $303 after the 28% shopback woolworths market place. Big upgrade on my old Wifi 5 router

    Is this the same ?

    • nah this will also act as the modem for your fttp/fttb nbn connection as well.

tbh tho not sure how the dsl side on this model performs in australia. lotta people feel like including both modem & router functions aint the best idea.

for those interested in merlin firmware, it is available via other peoples forks, though not sure how longterm i'd trust it.

The DSL chipset on this router is rock-solid when used in OZ.

    • Nope,, this is ax5400, the one you link is RT-AX82U

Asus DSL is a VDSL modem and router all-in-one designed for FTTN and FTTB.

Asus DSL can be used as a router for FTTP, FTTC, HFC and fixed wireless.

Asus RT is router for FTTP, FTTC, HFC and fixed wireless.

I have this same router, got it for 350 from Jb. Good features. Ensure to update firmware

I have the same too. Can mesh with other Asus ones for more coverage.

      • Yes, I paired it with XD4S

  • I have the same router, 2.4ghz drops once a week approximately and I have to restart it to bring it back to life…annoying experience. Good performance and coverage otherwise.

  • Would this one support VoIP, like Vtech ones?

  • That would be right, got a refurbished one from eBay, was an Optus one but unlocked it and reflashed firmware so all sweet. Spent ages on that shit though so would have preferred a retail version and new with tax invoice (was only 235 though).

Recommended though, seems to be the best all-in-one if you need DSL (fttb etc). I don't want too much gear (had a cheaper telco one and ax6000 bridged and it's an eye sore ha. No issues with Merlin at all. There's a great thread on WP.

    Good WiFi range and speeds.

  • Aliexpress has the same router for $150, makes me wonder what the diff is.

    • I think you'll find they have the "RT-AX82U" instead of the "DSL-AX82U". That's why I made a note in the description

      • Sorry
Do you know the difference between the two?

        • +1

RT means its only a router. You will need a modem to talk to ISP.
DSL means it also has built in modem too in addition to being a router. DSL is required where internet works on phone lines such ADSL, FTTN, FTTB.

    • Could be fake with them and id get this Aussie one, great price anyway. You can probably flash it with Merlin anyway as I've seen that model too I'm sure.
Better off and in the slim chance something goes wrong just take it back.

Most officeworks I checked last week only had one in stock. Kind of wish I waited a week instead of buying that one from eBay but the next cheapest was a fair bit at the time.

  • Any major difference between Optus supplied modem/router ?

    • Optus one is locked behind a custom made firmware. You can unlock but the process is a bit of a pain. Specs wise they are the same.

  • I think i blue balled on this one and paid $350 near launch. good item

  • This is straight up a roof scoop from Need for Speed

  • JB live chat price matches FYI, so you can get it 2 hour delivery

Officeworks AFAIK doesn't price match for delivery without jumping through hoops

  • Hmm, this or the TP-Link Archer VX1800v for $225. I know the Asus goes up to 4808mbps and the Archer 1201mbps… But real world usage I don't think there's much difference (especially if only on 100mb Fttb)?
