Seiko Prospex SPB429J Whitehaven Watch $999 Delivered @ Watch Depot

70

Seiko Prospex SPB429J Australasian Exclusive Divers Whitehaven

Comes with 2 extra straps, looks gorgeous in person, my fave watch.

I paid $1400 in Jan, not long after it came out, which I thought was a deal. No-one had it under retail ($1800) at the time.

  • Nice one, but it reminds me too much of the Citizen Unite, which I scored for $479. The Fujifilm-developed dial looks better than this.

    • +2

The face on this shimmers in person - pics don't do it justice. Recommend checking it out in person in one of the high street jewellers.

      • Fair enough. I guess the limited edition, straps, sapphire etc. justify the price. The Citizen Unite is also limited but to 7k, which is not printed on the back.

      • Do you have pictures of how it looks on your wrist? You must really love the watch. I love it, but I struggle to pay 1K for it.

        • yes it's just like any other sumo but diff colour.
Can get a 62Mas reissue (SPB143 etc) or Willard for a touch more.

  • +2

Not sure that colour and an extra strap warrants the bump in price over a regular sumo.

    • +1

Still far too expensive for just a different colorway. The Noosa could be had for $739 in previous deals.

  • +1

Very cool. Just too big for this spaghetti wrist.

  • +1

I have the very first sumo they had with that dial, the starburst dial looks way nicer in person and the best thing I did was putting it on a crafter blue strap, so much more comfortable

  • Having not bought a new watch in 20 years, and now finding myself in the market for one I'm very surprised that the specs don't mention the min/max length of the watch band. I'm an FFB so the band size matters and I might even need some extra links. What to do?

    • I have to take 4 or 5 links out of every watch, this was no different.

Never seen the type of specs you are interested in mentioned anywhere before. Most of my watches are Seiko or Citizen.

      • Thanks, but I'm not just having a complain. I really wanted to know how I can find out the info, so that I can order extra links if necessary.

        • +1

Sorry, didn't mean to imply you were - I've just never encountered those specs myself. Possibly because they are not needed for my skinny wrists.

"The case size is 45mm and thickness 12.9mm, lug-to-lug size of 52.6mm, lug width of 20mm and the entire watch weighs approximately 190gm."

      From here:

    • I'm not sure what direction your taste in watches runs but Aragon watches in the U.S. always list the length of their bands, plus they have a tendency to be larger-sized (up to 50mm) so are well-suited for someone with a larger wrist size. I've got two from them and they make a good quality watch.

  • It's a good price, but definitely been better, I saw it sub-$900 with a discount code. Like the Noosa, I think this one will start getting discounted more and more now that sales at the inflated RRP have lalmost certainly dried up.

    • +1

Where/when was that? On this site?

      • It was a storewide code so that particular watch wasn't specifically mentioned in the ozb post, but as it was already discounted at the time the code brought it down even further.

    • The stock might run out. There are only 1000 pieces worldwide.

  • My Seiko Solar was manufactured in March 2002 and never been serviced or opened. Incredible, but not sure how much longer it could go. If anyone sees a Seiko spring drive movement on sale, Appreciate if you can let me know!

    • What model is your solar? Most of those that I've seen are a sports-oriented watch, but Spring Drive tends to only be in Grand Seiko dress-style watches.

      • +1

Spring drive appears on some non-GS regular Seiko line watches. Eg SNR033

        • Well, there you go! I learnt something new today. :)

    • I prefer buying from Starbuy when they are the same price ;).
Still 1k for that is a lot. Looks nice but the Noosas were $739.

      • Save $20 at Watchdepot.

        • Go on. You may be waiting a week or more vs next day or the day after at the latest.

Usually you don't get the choice anyway and it's different deals, but much prefer starbuy than TransWorld.

Still overpriced just for a different colour.

          • @G-rig: Yes, I find it overpriced as well. Deepak said to me it is under cost price. I guess the 1000 limitation is one of the reasons.

            • @Thrifty Dan: Yes, doesn't mean we need to buy it.
I Seiko are always ambitious with most of their' limited editions', at least this one is (I think) 1000 pieces like the Noosa, not 6000-7000.

Depends how badly people want it but has been out a long time so sounds like end of new stock.

              • @G-rig: Fair enough. I am just unsure because of my Spaghetti wrists.

                • +1

@Thrifty Dan: Yeah I had a Noosa sumo and sold.
6.5" wrist is doable but 7.5" would be much better. Plenty of other options like willards and 62MAS re-issue for not very much more.

      • Starbuy says it is under "cost price" for $999 whatever that is. They will sell. Starbuy has less than a handful in stock.
