Spotify Philippines Email: ACTION REQUIRED: Update payment method

I received this email from Spotify last night. I've had a Spotify Philippines account for as long as I can remember, probably 5 years or so. Did anyone else get this email or know a way around it??

Update your payment method to keep Premium

Your Premium subscription will be cancelled in 30 days as we believe the country you bought your subscription in wasn’t right.

If you and any plan members on your account wish to keep listening on Premium, you’ll need to add a payment method that’s valid in the country you’re streaming from and update the country on your profile within the next 30 days. To find out more click here https://support.spotify.com/au/article/country-region-settin….

After 30 days, if your country hasn’t been updated, you’ll still be able to use our free service.

    Nothing here - I use a Philippines paypal account for payment

      I also use a Philippines Paypal account. Do you use an Aussie credit/debit card with your Paypal or something else? Mines just setup with my CBA debit card and a Philippines address

        I just transfer money from my bank into my PH paypal, like 50 AUD at a time, no card attached to that account any more

    Sounds like you saved some money over the 5 years of trying to cheat their system. Now it's time to cough up the normal price.

  • Yep, just got the same email. I'm in same position as OP but I have Phillipines PayPal account as payment method. Was hoping that would still work but possibly not if I'm getting the notification?

  • Got the same email and mine is via the Philippines too. I wonder if they're just looking at subs via the Philippines and if it's worth moving it to some other low cost location.

    • I got same email. Trying to update with same Philippines PayPal account but getting stuck with PayPal wanting me to add a credit or debit card to the account. Has worked fine for all these years without one. Thoughts?

        I've always had my 28 degrees travel card linked up.

        You can link up your card but have the option to use account credit first.

    Update: I've just received the same email again notifying me it will be cancelled after updating it to the same PayPal 14 days ago.

    Any solutions?

      Update: Spotify charged my paypal anyway - wonder if this is just a scare tactic?

      • Hopefully…I added AU credit card to my Philippines PayPal account. Left the billing address as PH. Primary payment method set as PayPal balance. Fingers crossed all ok. Next payment due on 16th.

  • My PayPal / card got charged. Weirdly it showed up as a PayPal transaction instead of the usual listed Spotify transaction. The payment is however, confirmed on the Spotify account. Guess we got one more week to find out.

    My account just got cancelled. I re-signed up for individual premium again via paypal and it went through. Will report back to see if I get cancelled again.

  • I just signed up for Philippines Family sub again. ₱239 ~ A$6.20 per month.
    Can probably get cheaper but PH Paypal already set up means minimal stuffing around. Will see how long it lasts.

      • Yes. They just need to confirm address when adding.
        I have random PH address (same one I had before sub got cancelled) and just sent that to family members along with Spotify family invite.

    • I read somewhere that you can sign up anywhere but after you use it in a different country (E.g. Australia) for 14 days or more, you have to change it to that country.

      They fully cancelled mine today, confirming they're not bluffing, so I gave up and got the family to pay me $4 each month 😢

    I signed up for Philippines Family sub again but applied the same principles below that I found on this Tidal post:

    For Tidal Family accounts
    When handing out family invites make sure you and your family members use a VPN when making invite and accepting invite or Tidal will fail to allow the family member due to being in the wrong country. Once invite sent and accepted, VPN can be closed down.

    It's been 48+ hrs now and all still working. Previous attempt was cancelled in less than 24 hrs.
    Will update if anything changes.

    • Is this a new account?

      • Same Spotify account used each time:

        • OG PH Family sub cancelled 11 Oct.
        • New PH Family sub 11 Oct > cancelled 12 Oct (within 24 hrs).
        • New PH Family sub 12 Oct (using Tidal VPN method to invite/add family) > still working.
        • Did you use your local address or a random address in the Philippines?

          • @_tony: im waiting for day 14. I was told the same thing. You can be "aboard" for 14 days.
