30% off Mutti Products: e.g. 400g Peeled Tomatoes $1.60 @ Coles

800

Looks like Coles has 30% off a range of Mutti products, they don't often have big discounts so thought it worth a share.

I find their canned tomatoes have the least additives with finely chopped cans containing 99.8% tomatoes with the only other additive being salt.

these peeled tomatos are the best i've found from colesworth. Anyone know of any better? Just curious as I've tried a few others which are always either too sweet/bitter, or just generally off tasting.

    • Personally I have found Ardmona (SPC) to be the best that I have found, no bitter/metallic taste and they seem high quality for a reasonable price. They also have mixed herbs, basil and garlic, as well as some with tomato paste added variants if you want a thicker/richer consistency. Can't say the basil and garlic or mixed herbs hit for me though, and id prefer to control the amount of tomato paste I add myself, but overall they are my go to these days.

I really wanted to buy Ardmona (being local) but when they show 63% tomatoes, tomato juice, paste and thickener, it became a no.

        • Looks like the Crushed variant is the only one that contains thickeners, which I don't buy anyway. Diced seems to just be tomatoes and juice, but the whole peeled is whole tomato, juice, paste and citric acid. The paste addition is somewhat surprising for whole peeled, citric acid doesn't bother me as I generally add some myself anyway as I like my sauces with a bit more acidity.

    • The diced version is also the best. I'm going to go broden my local of these

The Mutti San Marzano are the best, but only Woolworths sell them. And they're pricey (close to $5 per can), and very rarely on special

      • The Mutti Ketchup is also awesome, but also only sold at Woolworths for some reason.

      • $5 a can is still cheaper than the only other grocery store I could find it at.
I stocked up last time when it was on sale at woolies at $3.80.

      • San Marzano $4.80 at Wow - https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/482365/mut…

I'll plan to get some of each of these Mutti (means "mom" in German, "mute" in Italian - huh - maybe aimed at the German market?) - finely chopped and San Marzano - to compare the taste in my spaghettiolini …

these are the best colesworth canned tomato. the only thing better is the kirkland tinned san marzano tomatoes from costco. they aren't cheap but they do make a noticeable difference to your finished product

      • do they sell them here in Ozzie Costcos?

        • +1

they sure do, from memory it's something like $18 for 3 800g tins

Cucina Matese range is $1.40 regular price. Just as good or better imo, but obviously subjective.

      Only 65% tomato

mutti whole peeled can says 260g drained weight. that's also 65%? or am i missing something?

  • Cucina Maltese whole peeled is the best

    • +2

Isn’t Cucina Maltese Coles home brand?

      • Cucina Maltese is a trade mark used under licence from Coles Group Limited

        40c extra for branding.

        • Coles Italian whole peeled tomatoes are crap by comparison, so it's not just branding.

These tomatoes (or at least this brand) always have the best flavour too. Tried a tonne of diff ones

Sadly I've stopped buying all canned tomatoes despite them being awesome for pasta. High levels of BPA due to plastic lining in the can and acidity of the tomatoes.

  • Damn, I just missed out … I just made pizzas last week son

    • +3

If only there were some way to preserve the tomatoes for future use…

The BEST canned peeled tomato, hands down!

Recommend you avoid tinned products with added salt, unless you account for it by lessening salt later in the process!

  • I find the Divella Pronto Mediterraneo Pasta Sauce you can find in the international section is also fantastic quality and value when on sale (I see it 30-40% off quite frequently). I personally prefer it over the diced mutti.

Get the peeled ones. They are the best

  • What ever ha to the mutti pesto that we got for free basically a few years back with gifted cards?

I've looked for it again and can't find it.

Thank god, I was on my last 7 polpa tins from last deal.

  • Just a heads up that the Southern Italian tinned tomato industry is a hot bed for slavery.
Search the interwebs for heaps of info about it and details from anti-slavery organisations.

    Maybe choose Aussie.

For those that find some canned tomatoes to be too tangy/ acidic, you add a pinch of baking soda and cook it in, should neutralise some of it.
