Good Quality Work Jeans - Similar to Levi 505

Hi there, I have been buying Levi 505s for years, but they don’t last.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a similar cut of jeans? Thicker longer lasting fabric is a plus.

Thanks!

By work jeans I mean outdoor yard work. So painting, kneeling in dirt/gravel, mowing etc.

Have you thought about buying multiple pairs of kmart/bigw jeans for the same price as one pair of Levi 505's?

    • 505s sometimes go 20-30% off - or more if you get lucky with iconic timing and you get an extra in-app 10% off stack coupon, don’t buy them at full price. , I trialed 3 x kmart work trousers (at $35 a pop), and two had crotch blowout within 6 months.

        Bragging or what?

  • What kinda work ? Much squatting?

I personally like the fxd stretch cuffed pants for work that requires ‘dirty work’. I find they also aren’t as good as before in the way they fade a lot faster than the older batches I had - but yet to have a crotch blow out.

    • Yeah - lots of yard work, kneeling and sitting on the ground etc. I’ll have a look at the fxd ones. Thanks

  • :) I did that for a while a few years back. In terms of value it worked out fine as you suggested. But they still quickly wore through. I’m looking for long lasting jeans.

    • How long are you getting out of your 505s? I usually wear 512s if I’m not in my fxd’s, and easily got 18 months out of them so far on 2-3 wears a week.

      • I’ve old pair of 505s that have lasted years. But some of the new thinner fabric ones only 9 months.

  • I dont really know what work jeans are. However I once had a pair of nudie jeans which were pretty good. They do a lifetime repair so if any time your jeans need some sort of repair they'll do it free. Never took this up though so not sure how easy or hard it is to do

    • Thanks - I’ll have a look. I amended the post to say what I mean by work jeans.

  • French workwear is long lasting, tough. But expensive & hard to find here. https://www.phillipandlea.com.au/collections/le-laboureur/pr…

Maybe try some Patagonia work pants, about half hemp-then blend of recycled plastic/cotton/spandex. https://www.patagonia.com.au/products/mens-iron-forge-5-pock…

    • I agree with the idea of buying work pants instead of jeans

      • Personally I would just use any old pair of pants/trousers for what the OP wants. Raid a charity shop or bin, deceased estates etc.

  • King Gee 3020's - been using them for years in rigorous outdoor work.

  • Bisley jeans aren't too bad. You should consider knee pads during that particular activity. (factor in prevention and preservation principles) Your jeans will thank you now, your knees will thank you in the future. Make the jeans you buy last, by at least giving them a fighting chance.Once they get a small nick or hole in the knee area, the road to destruction comes along real quick.

*If you do get knee pads. get the best you can afford and claim on tax.

I still don't get why ppl like stretch jeans.

    • I like the look and price of these - thanks. I’m going to get a pair.

      • Got 2 pairs, (6 months ago) and dedicated to outside work. Going well. I think I paid circa $45-ish / pair.
I went on fabric weight VS comparable prices. And landed on them as a balance of the 2 factors

  • I like the BAD gear, in paticular the cuffed work pants with reinforced knees.

    • ill prob give this brand a go when its time to retire my current batch of fxd stuff

  • The only good workwear Id recommend is FXD. What Ive seen my trades put theirs through and they still look good, worth it.

  • if you want jeans, rather than work pants, some of the uniqlo jeans are 'stretch' jeans so comfortable when you are moving around a lot. Not sure how tough they are for work sites though.

    • Indeed… clicked in to that link above - instantly got emails about having signing up for account (I must have made an account at some point maybe… ) and a reminder email minutes later asking me to take another look. Unreal. I’m not buying from now purely based on this bullshit marketing.

      • Fkn scamming AHs with skimming tech. No good karma coming to the person who linked it.
I don't think I have ever had anything to do with that site ever, so something poxy going on.

  • Thanks everyone- I’m going to try the bisley trousers.

  • Get a pair of KingJee like what everyone in the industry uses. Hope this helps you, personally.

    • They are good work jeans for sure, but I revisited those and Hard Yakka prices yesterday. Sheesh, not sure the hefty premium is justified.

  • After spending a lot on a pair of R.M. Williams jeans then having them last two months longer than my usual UNIQLO Ultra Stretch Jeans, I gave up on quality. For $60 I get jeans that are tailored (legs taken up) and they last about six months.

As for gardening, I use these jeans when the crotch tears (this is their weakest point for me). Doing sweaty work with a ventilated crotch is rather pleasant. Recommended.
