Built under Dishwasher Recommendations? Ideally on Budget Side

Moved into a place and it has the Simpson Silencio dishwasher from before I was born (lol). Given it's going to be a killer on water usage as it's so old, I want to upgrade but don't have a lot of cash left after just moving in (and putting money aside for solar/air con upgrades).

Are there any recommendations on where to look at built under dishwashers that won't kill my wallet? Ideally under $600-700?

Doesn't have to be brand new, if anyone knows any reputable factory seconds places in Victoria. Facebook Marketplace is becoming a hassle as every time I send a message, by the time I can organise a ute to go get it, it's sold.

Let me know any recommendations you have!

    Facebook marketplace.

I grabbed a $70 second hand machine off a guy who had bought the house and was remodelling the kitchen, and the machine was only 2 years old.

    • Agree, the demolition/remodelling sales are the only one's I'd consider otherwise you're typically buying someone else's problem. Something made them decide to sell that old dishwasher.

    • For that price you should get like four of them, and use them to store your dishes too. Take clean ones out of one dishwasher and load them into the other, then repeat back and forth.

  • It's not within your budget so apologies, but the Bosch Series 6 is IMO hands down then best value for money dishwasher.

Do also factor in that water really has no material cost - ignoring the environmental cost.

Let's assume something like $3 KL, if your old dishwasher used 50L (which is a crazy amount, it's likely more like 25L), run once a day is about $0.15 a load for 365 days is $54.75 a year. So if it's more like 25L you're looking at more like $25 a year..

I don't think the water use would be a economic/budget issue.

Now, the energy usage may have a far greater influence on budget.. But to solve that your money is better invested in solar first - then that dishwasher energy cost can go to $0 if you optimise for sun hours use.

    • 100% this, highly regarded for the money. I have one myself.

  • Euromaid or Dishlex they are good build with 2 years warranty. the reason I am supporting Euromaid is that my office replaced their SMEG DW with Euromaid for $ 450 ( the cost to repair old SMEG) and its running for last 8 years without the beat with rough use by everyone. Normally HN or Winning appliance deliver online and they are not on display. Otherwise keep eye on FB market place if anyone is doing their kitchen renovation but then you are taking chance and also incur delivery n installation.

    • Dishlex stopped making dishwashers 3 years ago.

Electrolux, their parent company retired the brand.

I'd probably buy a BEKO with a 5 year warranty.

Here's one under your budget and delivered, they will even take your old one away- https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/beko-freestandin…

The white version is even cheaper.

Other than that, Bosch Serie 6 built under (their freestanding is very ugly for their premium line) if you can afford it.

  • Spending $600 to save a few dollars per year in water usage may not be a brilliant idea. If the machine still works well, sit tight for 12 months and sort out the solar and AC first.
