Looking for a decent phone with good storage ideally 512GB and good camera. Help with some suggestions. Not fussy about brands but should be value for money.

Add: looking at something that could last me 3 to 4 years

    Motorola G84

      They said good camera

      • Indeed. G84 is an excellent phone for the price, but the one thing that really lets it down is the camera.

        • I use a G84 and the camera is great. Takes just as good of a picture as the mrs iphone 13 pro.

    • Motorola G84/85 are brilliant value, but they don't have the best processors.

$700 is solid mid range territory btw, not budget

    • I feel upon searching that there is hardly any good camera phones out there under this price point with storage 512gb! So thats why $700

  • Pixel 8

    • Is it available in that price range?? Can you help me find that

      • +1

$770 is the cheapest price currently available. Code SAVETHG.
        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/404840312331

        • This looks great but again the storage is a setback, this doesn't even support sd card

          • @Niku06: There is one phone that has 512GB for this price. $747.99 using SAVETHG.

Oppo Reno12 Pro. 25% off RRP$999. Reviews say the camera is ok and it also has a telephoto camera. Long battery life.

            • @shxhshzhz: How does this compare to A55?

              • +1

@Niku06: A55 is only 128GB. However, it has much better update support with 4 OS and 5 years security updates. Both have similar performance, enough for normal tasks.

          • @Niku06: Set the phone to automatically back up to Google photos when you get on your home wifi. Too easy. Mass storage not required in 2024.

  • Motorola Edge 30 Fusion 8GB RAM/128GB Storage $304 + $5 Delivery @ The Good Guys eBay

  • Been investigating the same for myself, also wanting a clean Android experience (dislike Samsungs version) & battery life coming from a P6 Pro.

So far I've been leaning towards Motorola Edge 50 or Pro, JB has the 'regular' 50 and there's a Neo upcoming online too.
The range shares the same camera from reviews, but they get creamed by others for power if you care about games or intensive apps.

      • Thanks!
Odd price point, considering the standard 50 is $100~ more with a larger battery & screen.

        • Yes, much worse than the $599 the Edge 30 Neo's RRP was. The Fusion ($599) is now cheaper than the Neo. There aren't many reasons to buy this new Neo.

    "good camera" == very subjective.
budget smartphone == I'd be looking at samsung A series.

Samsung A35 == $450 (+ ticks boxes in terms of decent camera).

While A55 is superior $699 - but your OP really doesn't give much info/etc as to use case … so IMO would rule out going for A55.

My personal suggestion == Samsung A35.
If look around (or OK with going on a plan) - can certainly find it cheaper than $450.

    • +1

The A35 is on sale for $299, much cheaper. Very good option if it's good enough for OP.

      • Is it available in higher storage spaces?

        • No, the local Australian model is 128GB only. It has a microSD card slot for extra space.

    • Well usage would be for normal everyday things, emails and watching videos. Not for gaming!

      • +4

The A35 is more than enough for normal use.

  • I am interested in this too

Is there a reason why you can’t work it out yourself based on what your needs are without having to ask other people their opinions to help you decide?

Definitely going to be a Pixel if you're after a good camera, using a 7a right now and have no complaints. But any of the newer ones will do the job, just pick the newest that fits your budget.

Not many brands that have 512 GB for $700 or below. But from googling (check price comparison), I found these (all delivered to Australia):
Realme 12+ $516 sold by Amazon Germany

realme 12 Pro+ $675.81 sold by Amazon Germany

Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro $464.73 sold by Amazon Germany

Xiaomi Poco F6 $601.73 by Amazon Germany

    • Also one thing to consider is after 3G shutdown (Vodafone already). All these phones are latest 5G phones, except Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro/Pro+ (Sept 2023). I don't know whether your sim card operator will accept these phones or not (especially Telstra). As these are sold by Amazon, maybe easier to return the phone if not supported. I think Amaysim should be fine.

My phone is OnePlus Nord CE3 Lite 5G. After I sent messages to 3498 for eligibility:
Amaysim can detect my device type (uses Optus):
"We've determined that this device will not be impacted when the Optus 3G network is switched off from 28 October 2024. You won't need to do anything. However, we strongly recommend that you regularly update the software on your device for optimal network performance."

      Vodafone:
"It is time to act. Your mobile phone is currently impacted and may either not be compatible with our 4G/5G network or able to make emergency 000 calls on any 4G/5G network. Please contact us for further information. NOTE: Unless your call is for a legitimate emergency, DO NOT call Triple Zero (000) to test your device."

  • The next iPhone SE will probably have a good camera, but I reckon it'll be about $900.

    Samsung s20 ultra

Just purchased a recently superseded Pixel 8. You should get a brand new Pixel 8 with 256gb for around $700.
The Pixel camera is renowned for excellent photos and performance and comes automatically with updates for the next 6 years.

  • for around $600 you could get the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G
great screen, great battery, decent processor and RAM, plenty of expandable storage, newest OS, brilliant cameras.

for $700 or so you could buy iPhone SE (third generation)
good screen, good battery, very fast processor, newest OS, great camera though resolution not at good as the Samsung.

Bought A55, thanks for everyone for their input. Reason being esim, expandable storage and decent camera quality, also the build quality is strong.
