For some reason I don’t trust these clear ones, they look like they’d shatter easily when dropped.

Have a bunch of these. Kids have dropped, no issues.

      • +9

Yeah they’re young so they’ll be fine, but what about the containers?

    • +2

Plastic doesn't normally shatter when you drop or throw it

I’ve had a few incidents with acrylics. Maybe these are different.

    • +2

On this planet, that doesn’t happen.

      • +2

Toddlers operate on the edges of laws of physics. Water bottles from the same acrylic like material do shatter.

    • +2

You are correct. I threw it as hard as I could on the ground and it broke. Absolute rubbish.

      It's not a cybertruck window

I have a whole pantry of these. Great seal and they stack which is great. Highly recommend.

Great containers have a few of these.

  • This stuff gets damaged so easily, I wouldnt purchase IMO.

    • What do you do to them?

      • What do you mean? Throw around, ain’t it what these are for?

        • If they fall out of a cupboard or off a bench, they're toast.

Unless you don't mind them not being airtight.

Unlike everyone else I had troubles with these. Main issue was that the plastic lips on the sides where the lid flaps engage crumble after some time of use.
I think, this may be due to different grades of Tritan plastic, or maybe all of those commercial claims in relation to that are just crap. May be due to the fact that I dishwashed them a couple of times, only on the low temp (40 degrees) though.
My Tritan blender cups in Ninja seem to be a different plastic. But Systema in general is not the best quality, had problems with their standard containers leaking as well.
After all, glass is probably a lot safer if one is concerned about microplastic exposure. Has its own trade offs, of course.

Agree have also had a fair few plastic clips break.
No response from company when I enquired about replacement clips.
Last few I've bought haven't broken, may have improved.

As an engineer, it looks very much like all the newer Sistema containers are designed to fail.

The old design, with the catches attached to the body of the container, was a good design (ignoring how they were never waterproof).

The newer design, with the catches attached to the lid, is crap. When the catches are in the "open" position, bumping them acts as a lever on the pivot point, breaking the pivot point. This was not possible with the old design, where bumping the catches would just make them fold back against the body of the container.

I can't see any good reason why they moved the catches from the container to the lid. It looks like Sistema were thinking "These are lasting too long. Find a way to make them fail in a few years, so people buy again".

  • I'd better buy some of these. I keep buying sacks of flour, but then not using them quick enough and then get little bugs in the flour.

    • The bugs (their eggs, specifically) were most likely already in there when you bought the flour.

      • Yeah been through that reproach before now that you mention it, after getting bug infested flour from Aldi I decided to get it only from Woolworths from now on. Kinda scary how we eating bug eggs, or bugs if you're not careful.

        • Weevils are not harmful to humans, pets, houses, furniture, or clothing and don't carry any diseases. They are temporary nuisance pests that damage stored food products

          • @TEER3X: Yeah but what about when I'm gearing up for waffles and all the only flour has weevils.

@AustriaBargain: When you get your flour/rice/whatever that might have bugs in it, don't even open it, just put the bag/packet/box into an air-tight container and put it in the freezer for a week. Then take it out, and DON'T OPEN THE CONTAINER for a couple of days, to let it come back to room temperature.

The freezer for a week will kill all the bugs, even if they're in egg form. And as you have the flour/rice/whatever in an airtight container, no new bugs will be able to get in.

@Russ: Just a bit of extra protein in your birthday cake ;-)

  • These are my favourite. The square shape make it easy for pouring out your treats into your bowl, or whatever you keep in them I guess.
