Great car, great price!
It's what happens when we're the dumping ground … These still sell for considerably less in China still
it would be a 'dumping ground' if they sold for less than what they are in China… less GST and other mandatory taxes here
by your observation its NOT a dumping ground
Are you suggesting that paying a 200% tax on all imported goods into Australia is preferable? Or is it more about concerns over China’s growing influence?
If Albo pulls that card, im sure they'll just reciprocate with a 500% tax on Aussie wine and beef.
@t_c: Albo's Australia
@Gdsamp: well i mean China imports $150 bn worth of goods from us while we import $50 bn worth of goods from them…
that gives you an idea of who's calling the shots
its all well and good to talk the big talk but the numbers speak for themselves
its never going to work out in our favour
further to this look who is hurt by putting tariffs on Aust. imports… Gina Reinhart, BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto… you know important Australians… not you and me lol
https://www.crikey.com.au/2023/08/29/rio-tinto-shirt-anthony…
Anthony is even wearing the dress of his traditional owners!
With other countries adding huge tariffs on Chinese car imports we can expect more of this unless /until USA forces us to add tariff.
Wtf are you talking about China is literally a miracle. It’s the fastest any nation ever has risen out of poverty.
Chinese wages are improving constantly.
My job got outsourced to 6 men in china 10 years ago. Was cheaper for a certain bank to replace with me 6 guys in china. Last I heard the wages have improved so much in china that in the first 3 years it went from 1:6 to about 1:3. The last I heard it was 1:2 there are people in china making great money, not everyone is making a little amount. (Half my salary is still about 75k aud). The salaries improved so much that actually brought some roles back to Australia and outsourced others to Manila which is cheaper then china.
I could have made more money moving to china and running a larger team but the position was in chengdu china, which has a climate that doesn’t agree with me. Also the food was way too spicey.
I love how people who have never been to a country comment on things that have no idea about.
Some of the factories in china are now building entire villages modelled on European cities in attempt to retain and attract staff. Some are giving 6 weeks plus of leave a year too.
I’ve visited china a few times over the years Australia peaked in the 90s china has cities that feel so much more modern then Australia. Most vehicles are electric, they have high speed rail, buildings are spectacular especially at night, almost no crime graffiti or druggies begging.
China is still growing while we are just digging ore out of the ground and giving away all our gas.
We will be a failed resource state while china will be a manufacturing and tech powerhouse.
@tessel: I think there's some genuinely interesting psychology with how you deal with someone proving you wrong through experience and reason, and in doing so, threatening to upturn your sinophobic worldview. Maybe it's a maturity thing.
@811b11e8: fastest any nation has risen out of poverty is actually South Korea.
We're the world's dumping ground, someone's getting a huge cut. For some reason it's always more expensive here than in any other country even once you've accounted for the currency conversion. Apple, Samsung, Sony, GWM, Tesla etc. You name the international brand it, we get ripped off.
Thanks to Chinese government subsidising the auto / EV industry that results in over-production, and governments around the world increasing the tariff on Chinese manufactured cars. No complaint if that means cheaper cars for us Aussies :)
Not really. I bought my ‘23 ultra hybrid for $44k last year. It hasn’t really dropped too much in that time.
Great car, no issues . 1000km to a tank of 91.
Damn 1k per tank for a car that size is decent
Still overpriced for what they are. You can only describe them as ugly (Or is that description now inappropriate for cars?), panel work is substandard with super thin panels that don’t line up, plastic interiors, not to mention sloppy handling and sluggish performance. They remind me of items I have ordered in the past fromTemu and Ali Express. But if you get excited by these glorified scooters, hit the buy button now before they fly out the door :)
$30k car is way better value than a $2k electric scooter you can't officially use in public
Have you ever seen some of these el cheapo cars after a crash? Despite their so-called 5star crash ratings, there is not much left in the rubble. In the end, you get what you pay for.
@mike001: I'm pretty certain they're not worse than Japanese and Korean garbage we used to drive 20 or 30 years ago. I also tend to drive 90% of the tone in 60km/h zones, so it's be just fine. Still safer than the scooter you said these cars are. I've also seen them on the road, that look solid.
"Premium" is the bottom tier model? Bit misleading..
Haha, I only just saw this, that's hilarious. Yeah, stay away from the Premium, it's missing like a million features. Get the Ultra, you don't want to stinge away from all those extra safety features, larger screen, induction boot, HUD, mood lighting, premium faux leather that is apparently more durable than real leather, not the cheap PU leather on the base model. I still don't know how to work those heated door mirrors though…
I checked the H6 out last year - its a nice big boxy car.
Good value for money if I was strapped for cash, and wanted a new car.
My main concern was that the car computer/touchscreen suffered from lag.
It felt like a cheapo android tablet that had to think a bit before doing anything (not enough memory?)
I'd hate to think what it would be like in a few years time.
Otherwise it would do the job.
No idea if the warranty would be backed properly.
Wierd, we bought how Ultra back in mid 2021 and had the opposite experience. Found it snappier than the Kia/Hyundai. Though I guess the screen "transitions" are a tad drown out. Either way, works great with android auto minus the microphone issue that seems ever present.
Have our ultra hybrid for 2 years also never have any issue not even the microphone issue but we don't call all that much in the car.
The only issue probably the dealership and their service. Our local dealership also run Nissan so I think everytime we book in service, that's why it took whole day to complete the service and once they didn't even call us till like 530pm to pick up the car.
H6 is like best seller in the class for 10 straight years in China before byd tookover
Yeah, We had issues with the dealer we got the car from. Chucked a review up about the poor service they gave us and got a letter from a lawyer because he wanted to take me in for deformation. But I feel it's less a Haval issue and more that car dealers are scummy (Had a few issues with other dealers including another GWM dealer when we were looking for a new car). Been a great car all in all, still going great.
@JustASmoothSkin: I think those lawyers you mentioned must had gone through some deformation themselves if they thought they could scare you with a defamation suit. In Australia, defamation laws do not apply to a company. In any case, truth is an absolute defence so if a dealer provides shit service, they have to wear the flak.
@mike001: Less than 10 employees they can sue for trade libel or injurious falsehood. Even though they would lose (as everything I said was truth) they would crush me under court costs and time off work in the process. Australia is pretty notorious for it's aggressive "online anti-bullying" laws which were made exactly to legitimize frivolous lawsuits for businesses and positions of power.
On top of that the guy sells Lotus along side his GWM, so if by chance I lose and he can somehow convince them that even 1 of his $100k+ plus Lotus's wouldn't sell due to my review I would be stomped into the ground by a uncapped claim on his lost profits. Really had no choice but to capitulate and remove not just my review and experience from facebook but had to nuke my whole facebook account just in case.
The infotainment is the smoothest I’ve ever seen. Maybe you’re thinking of a different car?
It does feel like a big boxy car. I've had the H6 Ultra for 6 months and found the touch screen to be very responsive. I wonder if they updated the software since you tried it. Before buying I had read about the Emergency Lane Keeping slowing the car down when a sharp bend comes up but also have not found that to be an issue so maybe also something they updated before I bought. Around town they can be a bit thirsty but on long trips I was surprised about how fuel efficient it has been. Only negative I would say is the car feels like it wants to go all the time when driving at 60. If I don't use the cruise control i find myself going over the speed limit though it does warn you and flash your speeding.
Emergency Lane Keeping slowing the car down when a sharp bend
It wasn’t an emergency feature, it was actually a feature called “smart cornering” designed to provide a smoother ride by slowing down a little. Obviously it had some issues and as such it can now be disabled in the settings for H6 models built in 2022 onwards.
Can you provide any feedback about how reliable the assisted parking is? I did a test drive of the assisted parking but would be a bit scared to use it irl.
ultra will be under 30k by end of year
I don't think that will happen, only the electric cars seem to drop in price like no tomorrow. The petrol ones only have slight discounts.
I'll possibly get the hybrid ultra next year, but am leaning towards an EV.
From what I've gathered, the hybrids are the ones to get, apparently very well built and are likely to be reliable.
You mean Holden commodore?
Bud
If anything the gwms/havals are more reliable than any euro
You dont buy a euro for reliability, only poor people need reliability because they need to get to work
Lol youre in ozbargain, come on man!
Coming from someone who's owned an Audi i can safely say that no sane individual would throw money at one of those things unless that have both time and money to burn.
The prestige and badge isnt worth it when Chinese cars are doing 90% of the same for 30% of the price.
I'd much rather invest the rest than lock it up in a heavily depreciating asset.
@Drakesy: An Audi isn't an asset?!?
But it will impress my manager…
Dude, love your comment 😅🤣😂
I had the same thought but I did some research and this was like the best selling SUV in China for like 18 years straight. It's got a ton of good reviews. If it does fall apart after 1 year then you're completely covered as it has a 7 year warranty on the car and 8 years on the battery.
Unless you need a car watch out for the flood of Chinese BEVs next year
MG has a new solid state coming, so theyll want to dump all these old tech lithium batteries
Wow, about time. Very exciting news!
Care to share a link? As there’s zero solid state cheap batteries anywhere as far as I’ve seen. Maybe in a few years real high end sports cars, but not a chance in a sh#tbox MG.
Solid State is the buzzword that manufacturers throw around when they don't want people to buy the fantastic EVs that exist right now, and want you to wait for the mythical "Next Big Thing". The issue is that lithium (especially LFP) batteries are dropping in price so massively fast from the Chinese manufacturers (about 40% per year) that all of the "Next Big Thing" batteries that are offering 10-20% cost reductions are being leapfrogged all the time (eg Tesla with their 4680 cells).
Buy EV now (Tesla and BYD are my pick) and stop paying for diesel/petrol. Range is not the problem everyone thinks, because they cannot get their head around the fact that you plug it in every night and have a full battery every morning. Note: if you do +1000km per day regularly, or cant charge at home, maybe wait, everyone else just do it :-)
Yep can't wait!
Yep, can't wait to see the BYD Sealion 7's pricing and find out who can come up with a 7 seater electric car that is affordable. Not Kia's EV9 for $100k+ lol. Apparently BYD's batteries are 4 times more durable than everyone else's so you don't have to worry about replacing the battery. Toyota are also going to copy their hybrid tech as it's world class leading for efficiency and they can't beat it.
Toyota are also going to copy their hybrid tech as it's world class leading for efficiency and they can't beat it
That is a myth. It is a 1.5L 3cyl hybrid with 100km battery range, then it does 2000km on ICE, a big fuel tank. ICE efficiency not much better than Yaris.
BYD Sealion 7
Will be interesting.
I rode in a Leapmotors C10 last month and it is about AUD$40k - AUD $50k and it is really good BEV
Can someone comment who has had one of the above cars for +1 years how the quality is and if they regret their decision or not?
I was picked up in an Uber Haval Lux Hybrid and for the 1 hour drive it felt like a good car and drove well, but these cars really get some hate on here so curious if they are crap after 1 or 2 years.
Considering an Haval Ultra Hybrid via novated leasing for best savings, or a Tesla so keen on some actual users feedback.
Plus one for this too.
Would like to know…Pricing wise it’s a complete steal. It’s unfair when folks compare it with cars that are 60k+ above in the range. Checked some YouTube comments on this car and people mentioned it’s a really good car overall.
Nuclear warhead fired
Agree I watch a few of the big car review channels and they overall like the Haval and for the price it’s a steal. Would just love some real world feedback on them to see how they hold up.
Especially when the difference is $30K!
Had ours for over 3 years, early adopter. Can check my post history and the responses when I asked about them. All in all the H6 is great, had a couple issues but to be honest also had a brand new V8 Z-Series Commo (BCM cooked by engine heat just outside of warranty) and brand new falcon (Every electrical issue possible) back in the day which also had huge issues over their lifetime due to manufacturing defects. Also drive a lot of different vehicles for work like pretty much all the big brand utes, can find examples I have had to deal with with pretty much any "reliable" big brand.
So far, with the Haval I have had a cracked heater core (fixed under warranty) and the microphone kinda sucks in ours. All in all its been surprisingly decent for a the $37K we paid.
Its more they dump haval in with MG
When in reality Haval do a reliable budget product
We have a jolion and a H6 (non hybrids) One for 10 months and one for 14 months. Honestly I don’t know of another car at these price points that includes the same level of trim & features. No issues what so ever. Only annoying this is the driver attention system. Always beeping and binging. But seems like lots of cars have to have this in there to get a 5 star safety rating. Also lack of buttons to control infotainment is annoying. Seems like new cars will be bringing them back in.
Nice car at a very attractive price point, and lots of happy users sharing their experiences on Haval Facebook forums as well.
Tesla model y is a harsh and hard ride. Maybe wait for a juniper if you going the ev route.
Tesla Model Y is really sensitive to tyre pressures (far more than any other car I have driven). Drop from the recommended very high pressure (42psi) that is obviously set to maximise the last few km of range, to a normal pressure (38psi) and it's a completely different ride. Note we have almost 50,000km on our original set of tyres the car came with set at 38psi most of the time.
My mechanic bought a haval ultra hybrid and said those are the ones to get. He said the jolion is not as well built and not to get one (but I'm not sure if he was referring to the ice or hybrid version or both).
Just sharing my anecdote, I have known said mechanic for 3 decades and he's never steered me wrong
Thanks for the feedback! Really good to hear a mechanic say that.
Jolion is also very well built as per the numerous reviews and shared experiences from customers on online forums. Jolion Hybrid is a really good car with lots of power and good mileage as well. Haval H6 ICE version is also a very good car, the hybrid version is a much better drive though.
I've only had my Haval Ultra Hybrid for 6 months but it's absolutely amazing with 1100km of range. So much better than our RAV4 cruiser because of the technology and safety features (not to mention wait times & pricing). If you want value for money with a medium sized SUV, I think this is the car. Make sure you get the Ultra hybrid, don't stinge out on anything less as it'll just be another boring SUV that isn't special. I don't regret my decision as it's the best value medium SUV with the most technology/features. However, when it goes into EV mode, it's so amazing that I wish I was rich enough to buy a fully electric car. I think it would be so fun to drive in but unfortunately, it still doesn't make any financial sense yet (just need another $10k price drop to make it justified).
The Tesla Model Y is great now at $61k drive away but it's going to be ridiculously expensive to insure and maintain (in case of any damage, popped tyre etc). You'll also be tempted to splurge $10k on the full self driving add-on making the price ridiculous ($73k for a Tesla base model Y with colour). If you're obsessed with EV mode and don't mind splurging an extra $15-20k, I think you're better off getting the BYD Sealion 7 that's due to come out by the end of the year as it should be more affordable and cheaper to insure/maintain than a Tesla.
Novated leasing for petrol cars is really only good for 1 year, after that, the savings are negligible. Electric cars are a lot more beneficial and would go well with a 5 year novated lease.
To each their own. I went the Ultra (non-hybrid) AWD and have really enjoyed the power it provides from take off compared to the hybrids which just squeal their wheels.
Not a H6 but I’ve had a Jolion Lux for 2 years now. No issues with the build quality or reliability. To point out things that I don’t like would be:
Seats are uncomfortable for long drives
Proximity door unlock is only on the driver side
Climate control is via the touch screen
Some annoying quirks like putting it into sports mode flashes both indicators for 3 blinks or going over a speed bump a little fast does the same
Things I like would be:
Incredible value for money compared to equivalent equipped jap/korea car
Generous leg room in the rear seats and good boot space
Touch screen is very responsive
Rear view camera is one of the clearest I’ve seen in a car
Overall I feel like I’ve gotten more value from the car than what it cost me. And since I’ve had no issues in terms of performance, reliability and build quality I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another Chinese car. The hate you hear about Chinese cars has been instigated by US propaganda
Some of my friends will not buy Chinese goods due to their attitude towards Taiwan, their actions against The Phillipines and Vietnam in the South China Sea, theft of intellectual property, electronic spying etc.
Then some say if China suffers a downturn economically, Australia will also. Hard questions but probably worthwhile considering before buying new products.
That’s completely unrelated to the car and personal opinions!! lol.
Mate, should have a hard look around, most stuff are Chinese goods and you’d be left buying nothing. Frickin even my undies are Chinese made. Let’s not be unrealistic.
It's not unrelated when it is a Chinese product and the person has concerns about China, people are entitled to their opinion.
Agreed, when all the other car manufactures are all buying parts from China to use in their cars, you feel pretty safe. Especially now that Toyota is going to convert to BYD's superior hybrid battery & engine as they can't beat Chinese battery or ICE technology, it's definitely a turning point!
Ozbargainers hate having to think about anything other than the immediate price of some product and get scared if you present political realities to them.
"I hate China!"
* proceeds to buy everything Chinese made *
my feeling is sort of like being vegan or whatever
it costs more to eat healthy and well and organic and the like
i'd love to patronise toyota or the euros but it comes down to… DO YOU HAVE THE MONEY???
if you dont then you dont
and if you have to buy chinese because that's in your price range then that's ok… no judgement
if the chinese are making a better product for less then i'm gonna buy a toyota just because it makes other people feel better…
By that logic they should also have an issue with US involvement in almost every global conflict, war crimes and spying. If not then they are hypocritical to boycott one nation and not the other. In my opinion all major countries government including Australia is at fault for current and past atrocities that have occurred. So why not boycott them all?
I own a H6 Ultra 2023 2x4. bought for 37K
owned for a year and have 14,000km on the clock.
apart from the usual "ChInA" comments, its been great - no compliants what so ever.
Did you have any comments on the infotainment/touch screen?
I test drove one and found the lack of a volume knob and fan control button to be a bit annoying, but potentially something i could get used to.
Infotainment is better/ faster than my Subaru.
Android auto snappy and connects instantly.
It is slightly annoying not having knobs for air con.
But there are physical buttons for on/off and a/c on which flick the air con controls anyway and volume/mute on the steering wheel is fine for me
The predicted dumping by the CCP is underway
Yes, I feel bad for our local car manufacturers and the jobs that will be lost… Oh shit hang on…
The predictable dumping on the CCP is underway.
They need and deserve it
They probably do ……. but WTF has that got to do with the price of cars in Australia?
Are you whining that Chinese cars are becoming too cheap in Oz?
Sort of fark the consumer, I'm more interested in the politics.
@jackspratt: Just responding to something that you posted - and you posted it knowing you'd probably get a reaction. So you're the one whining turbo.
I'm just calling it out as I see it. I'll never buy a CCP-made car so it doesn't matter to me - but they are dumping their cars here.
@R4: Did someone/thing force you to respond to my post?
And then a second time?
@jackspratt: Because I wanted to respond and It's polite to do so anyway. I always try and be polite on here - unless others choose not to reciprocate. Which happens a lot unfortunately as many posters can't hold an argument or discussion and somehow need to get personal in order to deflect from this fact.
Pathetic but there it is.
Facelift is expected on the MY25 model, if that makes a difference for you. Decent discounts here if you're happy with the "old" shape.
Externally, the new one doesn't look much different. The biggest changes appear on the interior and infotainment layout, and new model will come with a price hike (which seems normal these days).
https://www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/facelifted-202…
Gen4 of the H6 has been released.
https://www.drive.com.au/news/new-haval-h6-coming-to-austral…
The interior looks very nice.
Sure, but that doesn't mean the CCP is not dumping them, on the contrary by the looks of it. The US and EU are tariffing CCP-made EVs so we're an easy target
Dumping? Yes, the dumping of Chinese cars.
and…
Dumping of U.S. debt.
A non-issue for this topic
The US and EU have car manufacturers to protect.
Australia doesn't, so dumping can't occur.
to these mooks on ozbb the chinese cant win
if they offer more than fair prices, its 'dumping'
if they charge more then they are ripping off 'aussie battlers'
the reality is that its VERY VERY easy to check what it costs in China and you'll very easily work out the true story
but the majority of ozbb car people are brain damaged
Yes - obviously they are converting all the left hand drive cars to right hand and dumping them here. Perfect economic sense. Absolute genius!
Wow the prices are dropping like a lead balloon.
