FULLBODIED

Jacky Blisson, Master of Wine "This is a taut, full-bodied expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, bursting with jammy blue and black fruit. Undertones of cedar and eucalyptus add interest on the nose. The dark-fruited palate is bookended by brisk acidity and sinewy tannins, giving reasonable balance and a firm structure. 2025-2030."

Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot "Enjoyable warm climate Cabernet from McLaren Vale. Dark maroon hue, this gives us notes of dried herbs, bay leaves, cold tea, black fruits and tobacco leaves. Soft texture, medium length and gentle finish. Expect this to drink well over the next two to four years. 91."

Vineyards: This wine is a blend of two McLaren Vale vineyards, the 'Picnic Ground' Cabernet located on Kays Rd at Blewitt Springs and the Osmond's Family 'Leslie' Cabernet next to the McLaren Flat Wetlands.

Soils: The 'Picnic Ground' vineyard is on Maslin Sands, aged between 34 and 56 million years old. The 'Leslie' vineyard soils are deep alluvial clays from the
Holocene era (11,700 years old). This area would have been a flood plain that was first planted by settlers so the soils retained water and the vines grew well, even before irrigation.

Harvest Dates: 30 March 2023 (Picnic Ground), 11 April 2023 (Leslie’s Block)

Winemaking: Crushed and destemmed. Static stainless steel fermenters with twice daily cap management. Yeast type: Uvaferm BDX. 9 days on skins. 100%
Seasoned in French Oak Hogsheads (10% new oak)

Cellaring: Drink now to 2030

    Screwcap. Vegan.

Are you meant to eat these? 😲

    • Some people might freeze it.

      • Oh. thanks.

You ripper! Just about finished the dozen that we ordered in July. Fantastic drop, and an excellent price!

    • @rcgy Excellent! Love your work :-)

Just about finished the dozen that we ordered in July.

      🍷

  • 6 for $150 from Qantas Wine (ironic that QF is selling wine) if anyone cares.

    • Really? Same wine? Wasn't aware we'd sent it to them. Do you have a link? Cheers! RD :-)

        Maybe they are on ozbargain?

Do I get an extra bottle for googling?

Thanks for the link. It is the shiraz and this is the cabernet but thanks for the heads up :-)

          • @RD ADL: Haha. Yes. Lunch time drinking session doesn't help.

            • @Chinese: Hah ha. First AFD today for a month. Liver crying out for some downtime :-)

      • Maybe Bec tricked ya and sold a few via Qantas?

        • Nah, more likely my 53-year-old slightly addled brain is failing me :-)
@Chinese has highlighted a description we now need to fix :-)

  • Any thoughts on how this compares to their langourne creek cab sav?

    • +3

Different regions but stylistically similar on the lighter, more fruit forward, fresher style.
Hope that helps. Cheers! RD :-)

      • Thanks, will give it a go

  • Anything close to the Coonawarra trio? I can't anything in the pricing range that offers the same style/quality wine. ($40-50/bottle, get sold out quick), nor the Wynns Black ($25/bottle).

    • @Chinese Not entirely sure what you mean but if Coonawarra is your thing, then 2023, being a cooler year in the Vale might appeal. Cheers! RD :-)

      • Lindemam's coonawarra trio https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/863863

Still not entirely sure what you are driving at but frankly, I'd put anythig we do up against Lindemans.and most TWE products. RD :-)

          • @RD ADL: gone are the heady days of SouthCorp & their shareholders dozen.

Penfolds, Wolf Blass, Wynns, Seppelt, etc
TWE has achieved what I believe is called marketing over substance. They've just trashed their brand's quality and moved investment into marketing. Unfortunately most people think they meed to pay more for a better win product, where as the reality is that a good chunk of the price tag goes into marketing.

@M00Cow: @M00Cow I’ve never bought at volume much of it. Why? Because I know producers making wines with outstanding price/quality ratio. :-)

  • Big fan of Bec Hardy wines….

  • Look forward to trying this one!
Have had the Clare valley (my favourite), langhorne and the time
    Flies.
    Thanks Rich!
