  • What the heck? I've been with Bupa for years and I've never seen this. No emails about it, or past ones, either.
I guess my plan is to crappy?

I don't get emails, but do occasionally see refunds for premium returns in the bank, from time to time.

It might also depend on level of cover and claims made?

      • Good point, I didn't think of that.

      • Comes through at different times, unsure if it depends on when you first signed up or what it depends on. Mine come through in November, despite literal thousands in claims.

I don't think Australian law would let them decide it based on claims, our PHI laws strictly disallow pricing based on amount of claims.

        • I remember bupa refered to like a not for profit trust

"Bupa is a private company limited by guarantee. It has no shareholders and reinvests its profits."

It may also be dividend refunds based on performance during the quarters

          • @cski: With how PHI works in Australia it would have to be evenly distributed though, not based on claims

If they give out the profits based on amount (or cost) of claims it would be a proxy way of pricing their PHI policies based on the individuals claims, which would be unlawful.

I'm guessing it's based on which policy you hold, but considering I hold the absolute highest policy (ultimate gold with extras), I would've expected to see more than others (or at least equal). Maybe those individuals are older and paying a higher premium (which is lawful then, as it's linked to their premiums)?

  • No email yet.

    Just ask,
even I have already transferred to other insurance company this year,
    Am I still eligible?

    • -4

I churned probably 3 times back and forth to bupa in that period. So i may get more emails about cashback

  • I didn’t receive one. Did they ask for your bank details? Could this be phishing?

    • +3

You will have a better experience with a scammer than with a legit Bupa promotion!

      Second this suspicion

I've received it previously but not this time. Wondering if its a phishing email too designed to get BUPA members who have received genuine links previously to think this is just the next one

    • Goes back in the account you nominated when you sign up to Bupa

      Came from email [email protected]

      • +2

Email FROM addresses are incredibly easy to forge.
        Don't trust them at all.
They don't have certificates like website domains.

100% sounds like phishing. How is this a deal anyway?

      • +1

I have twice received a refund.

      • It is a deal so you can contact them to update your bank details if needed. Some people would recieve this in spam /junk folder and likely never know about it

        • You should always check your junk…

  • https://media.bupa.com.au/bupa-tops-up-cashback-to-395-milli… (Note that's a year old)

If you were a customer when they paid it, then it went as a credit to your account.

OP likely already left Bupa by that time.

    • I was a member at the time and got it in my bank account.

  • Lucky you, you always have some good offers.

    • +1

Best thing in churning. You get a few cashback offers every year.

Last year got about $500 back from multiple funds

  • I also got this email. Seems legit

  • +1

Awesome. Thanks OP. I got an email for $500. Woot Woot.

    • +1

      Nice

    • Sounds like you're not churning enough (at all?)

      • I churn all the time. This specific time stayer two weeks longer to get Woolworths reward dollars.

  • I got the email, for 42.30. I am now wondering about Medibank. They are giving cashbacks to members signed up on June 30 this year. I signed up ON June 30 which makes me a paid member on that day (plus a previous member) . Cashback supposed to be coming in September.

  • getting $150 back apparently, was only with them for like 3 month including the 10 weeks free. Still waiting for the cashback from Medibank too …

  • +1

Mine don't come through until November, maybe it depends on when you signed up?

I got one in 24/11/2022 and 07/11/2023, so I expect the next won't be until November 2024. From memory I did sign up in around November 2021.

Side note, is this even legal that they're giving different amounts to everyone? I'm on top cover with them (gold ultimate) for the entire year and only get $124.50. If they are basing it on amount of claims, that is illegal?

  • I got my cashback today but it is less than what the email mentioned. Has anyone had any similar issues?

  • Apparently as per Bupa Customer service, you are eligible only if you had a policy for 60 days or more and you cancelled or moved providers within those dates i.e. 01 Nov 2022 and 30 Jun 2023
