Buy with Qantas Points for 15% off Amazon Gift Card (e.g. $50 Card for 9,290 Points) @ Qantas Marketplace

Heyo! Saw Amazon GCs at a discount and it sounded like a good idea? Unsure but does anyone know the math if this is a good deal?

(It's more of a question than a deal post, but get the feeling y'all would appreciate knowing this as a deal if it were one, but feel free to not upvote/report if it isn't the case)

The way i use my point is hotel and it works out $100 per 10000 points so this is like half compared to hotel.

    • Any tips on using points for the best hotel rates?

would definitely not be a good deal unless you never want to use your QFF points to fly.

By far the best use is reward business flights internationally (round the world is the standout)

    • or just any classic rewards flights

      • Some economy flights with rewards to London are 144k for economy plus $250. Shit value considering the cost is $1700 cash.

        • never looked that far. we do lots of domestic flights in peak for $12k OW. and have done 4pax BNE to Vanuatu & BNE to Bali for 90k + $800 rtn. which I thought was pretty good.

FYI, in terms of redemption value, using points to buy gift cards is the worst value for money, at just 0.5c per point.

Buying anything from the Qantas store with points is terrible value.

      • Good to get validation! Ty!

If unsure, a forum post would have been a better idea to ask the question. In this case, getting vouchers with Qantas points, even with 15% discount is terrible value.

Oh no no no no, we don't do that here

    not a deal mate

  • Business and first class classic rewards flights are the best deals. Almost anything else is a waste of your points.

    • Is it better then flying jetstar on sale? What's the point conversion if you compared buying with points vs $$

      • Business class around 2c-5c, and first class about 10c. Availability is usually the problem though, so being flexible is important.

        • What if you just fly economy? Is the value as good?

          • @Jklaro: No. Usually it's only 1c

            • @immrnonamehello: Yer.
So if a flight to say Queensland first class vs flight to Queensland economy whats the points cost difference? Is it only slightly more and you get business or first class?

              • @Jklaro: Well first class Sydney to Dubai is about 170k and economy is about 55k. So probably 3.5 times the points.

Cash price differences are usually more than 10 times.

  • It's expensive; 1 cent per point means paying $90 for a $50 card.

Never use points for gift cards; it is the worst redemption option.

Don’t do it. Not worth your points.

I'm here to stop you wasting your points.
