Reputable Solar Installer in Melbourne?

Hi all,

With pfit coming to an end we are looking at upgrading out 1.5 Kw solar to something larger. Can anyone suggest some reputable installers that would service the northern suburbs? Know there a lot of fly by nighters out there so want to avoid getting quotes from any dodgy installers.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah not much you can do when your on PFIT. Has served me well for 15 years. Has paid its self back several times over. Wont do much post PFIT going, so time to get in something a little larger.

Its been many years since ive looked at anything solar(15 years to be exact). What is the state of play with panels these days? I have 8 panels making up just over 1.5 kw. So assume thats like175 watt panels. Do you get more input capacity per panel these days? Im gonna struggle to fit more than a 3 KW if panel capacity hasnt increased.

  • I couldn't find somewhere that wasn't just contract installers. Also in the northern suburbs, although I didn't look that hard.

Personally I used Variety Solar and they were fantastic though, good support leading up to the install and everything arrived on time and was installed as expected. The two guys doing the install were fast, fixed an issue with my roof while they were up there and it's been rock solid for 18 months since then.

    • Thanks mate. Will look them up.

  • I used Gippsland Solar in 2020 which was then subsequently bought by RACV Solar. The actual install was done via an Electrical Subby but they did a great job.

  • Expired deal but some indicative pricing - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/862409

  • I used essential solar. Can recomend. Also consider getting a battery. Todays fit is terrible that solar without battery is just waste of money.

    • Depends on power usage. We didn't get a battery and slightly in profit most days now. We were paying $400-500/month previously.

    • We got a quote forom Eseential but they are significantly more expensive than other quotes we have gotten. ie. their 6.3 kw system is a grand more than an 8.5 kw system from other installers. Similar spec systems also. I sure they do good work but i cant justify that much of a hike in price just for possible reputation. Both the other installers ive gotten quotes from have good raps also.

Battery isnt an option. Far to expensive and to be honest i dont trust them given the recent recalls on some faulting and catching fire. We are happy with what we can export and use as much excess as we can during the day.
