Could you please add more details on the inverter. I'm trying to figure out if it supports addition of a battery let's say in 3 years. Also I'm trying to check for home assistant integration.
One more question, let's say it's a sunny day and the system is generating a good amount of power. What happens if there's an outage on the grid? Can the inverter continue its job or it stops?
    Thanks.

    • +1

AFAIK inverters will stop working when it's not synced to the grid.

Many suppliers claim that their inverters support batteries, but usually they only support AC-coupled batteries.
I think you're actually looking for an inverter that supports DC-coupled batteries, so you need to ask about DC-coupled support.

      • Good point - thanks.

      Hi,
This is the goodwe MS 30 string inverter.
It completelty depends on the battery you choose to purchase.
If you go with an AC Battery i.e.Tesla or Alpha - no inverter upgrade required.
If you go with a DC battery set up, you will need to upgrade to a Hybrid inverter - sungrow 10kw 1p Hybrid is a $1300 upgrade. Fronius Hybrid $1950 or Goodwe 3p hybrid is $1350

      Cheers

    • You might want to read up on "AC coupling".
Solar Panels generate DC, Inverters convert DC to AC, a battery operates on DC and we use AC for home appliances.

Hybrid inverters feed DC directly to Battery so you save a total of ~9% loss that occurs on 3 conversions in case of an AC-coupled battery for a non-hybrid inverter [Inverter converts solar DC to AC => AC-Coupled Battery inverter re-converts AC to DC => Battery storage in DC => Output from the battery is re-converted from DC to AC]

If you do not go with a hybrid inverter, for a normal inverter you will need a battery that has AC-coupling [which is nothing but re-converting input AC to DC for the battery to store and convert battery output DC to AC for usage]. Hybrid inverters are usually a little more costly but a little more efficient.
Powerwall 2 is an AC-coupled solution.

For me, the cost difference was much more so I went with a non-hybrid GoodWe just last month. [I am not a Kenny Solar customer]

  • Not sure about this company but this seems like a great price for a huge system using average inverters.

For reference, I just got quoted (by RACV for a 20kw system - Trina 500w panels + Sungrow inverter + Tesla powerwall) for $38k. Take off $15k for the powerwall and that leaves you with $23k for system what is only 60% larger than this. Cheapest quote for the same thing is about $15k.

    • $23K is how many months worth of non-solar electricity for you? For me it's about 12 years, will the powerwall still be functional in 12 years?

    • We can install that exact system for $13,500 for you mate, we do a better job than RACV too.

When you get prices this cheap, costs have to be cut somewhere. I'd hate to think of the rushed workmanship just to slap this up and go to the next job.

I see a lot of these cheap installs in the area where the low end Goodwe inverter is installed right next to the front door - so damn ugly. A decent installer will route a bit of extra cabling to hide it in the garage out of sight and weather.

Probably also deducted the $1400 interest free loan off this price treating it like it's some sort of 'discount'. Not specifically an issue with these guys because many solar companies do this. I get to reduce $1500 solar vic rebate, but it's slightly deceptive treating the loan as if it reduces the overall price of the system.

    • This is all assumption and maybe's, higher prices doesn't guarantee good work either, we're all here looking for the BARGAIN i.e. good for cheap. Do ya research

I think this is the same Kenny Solar - https://www.solarquotes.com.au/installer-review/kenny-solar/

Also look at SolarQuotes for info on the gear to be installed to see how it rates

Sure, it could be amazing value and no issues. Just wanting to warn people to proceed with caution as this is something you do as a 15 year investment.

Will this company be attentive if after the install you happen to have roof leaks or issues with the system or will they ghost you?

With such small profit margins on a system like this, you have to ask what their time is worth, will they just 'smash it out' to get to the next job?

That link you've given states the company serves NSW, OP states Vic areas? Are they just giving this job out to random subcontractors? Personally I like installs done by the company themselves.

Couldn't agree more. Selling systems this cheap isn't sustainable and a sure way to go out of business quick smart, unless your staff are on $3 an hour.

That's why the sale is only for the 300 JA panels we have left.

A fair price for a 13kw system installed professionally is $7500-10,000

          Cheers
          Kenny

          • @KennySolar: 300 panels and each 13kw system uses 32 panels so you'll sell only 9 of these systems?

  • got a 13.2kw beginning of the year, have not paid a single dollar in electricity since then, used to be 550 per quarter

    • who was your installer? if you dont mind me asking

    • What about in winter?

  • +1

    Hi guys,

    plenty of questions.
We have in house crews in NSW, Vic & Qld.

We have 300 JA panels left in our warehouse that have t go to make room for new stock arriving September 1.

This is a good quality system installed at a fantastic price! - these are not sustainiable and is $3000 cheaper than our standard installation price.

all local support, no overseas staff, local crews! Get in while you can - available for a chat on 1300882990

    Cheers

    • This deal is for VIC.

Have you got something for Sydney?

  • Never any deals for Adelaide??

  • Do you have any inverters with 4 MPPT? I want to have 2 strings west facing and 2 north or 2 west 1 north 1 east

Can only really see expensive hybrid inverters have 4

  • only Hybrid inverters currently offer 4, is it 1p or 3p?
by using 2 inverters you can achieve what you're looking for.

  • Geez.. this deal looks incredibly good.. and i have an old system which needs replacing

    Whats the catch?

    • reach out if you're interested.

  • That's not a deal, this was the regular price I got in July'24, VIC.

I paid 8800$ just last month, for a double story, 3 Phase, Tile roof, without VIC rebate.
This was also split over 5 years without any interest or account maintenance fee [~147$ per month].

Jinko Solar 440w Tiger Neo N Panels, 30 panels total [13.2 Kw]
    10Kw GoodWe interver.

    • Who through? Any issues with installation?

      • The installation process went smoothly overall.
They did break one roof tile during the installation but documented the process with videos taken before frame, after frame, and after the solar panel installation.
To ensure there were no issues with potential water leaks, I had a roofing professional [$150] inspect the roof afterward, and no defects were found.

The solar installation has been approved, but we are still waiting for the meter reconfiguration by the supplier.

Everything went well. I chose Amazing Solar, though I'm not endorsing them or affiliated with them in any way. I received a few similar quotes and decided on them based on positive online reviews. I recommend shopping around and seeing if they can beat other quotes, as there is often a significant margin in solar system installations.

    • Who did the interest free financing? Our electricity bills are more than that monthly cost - 13.2 kw should probably knock it down considerably. Perhaps with the interest free loan from vic govt it might be worth doing solar battery install as well… hmm.

  • +1

Just signed myself up with them (Goodwe hybrid inverter + add. costs for tiles and 3p) for a little bit under $7K. Sales experience is buttery smooth. Looking forward to see how installation goes and how system works.

I was previously quote a $5K installation for 6kW JA panel + Goodwe 1p inverter back in 2022 after rebate. In addition, if a 13kW system would really wipe out the bill like one of the comments above says, this would absolutely be a bargain for me.

    • Glad to have you on board! :)
We will be in touch with an installation date soon.
      Cheers

  • In market for some time. I was quoted $599 for 6.6kw system (Jinko / Growett) after Solvic rebate and interest free loan. Then decided to go for 10kw system (10kw Jinko panels & 10kw Growett inverter) for $2500 after Solvic rebate and loan.Installation scheduled in two weeks time. Couple of my friends got system installed without any issues. Hopefully mine goes smooth.

  • Anything for syd anytime soon?

    • Hi, we had a special there last week.

This is a decent price if there is no catch. Got mine single story house quoted $3000 for a 6.6kw system in SA last week.

    • hey DavyD who gave you the quote if you don't mind sharing…

  • thanks DavyD!
