2-in-1 Aluminium Torch or Headlamp $14.99

  • Rechargeable 14500 battery with built-in USB charger
  • Torch or lamp mode
  • COB Lamp can be changed to white, red or flashing red
  • 3.7V - 800mAh
  • 90° rotatable torch head
  • Magnetic, multi-angle mounting and handy clip for belts, bags or pockets

I bought this last time & use it as a torch more than a headlamp. It simply slides off the headstrap & becomes a torch. To recharge unscrew the back & there is a USB to plug into your phone charger. There is a red light to show it's charging & it turns green when fully charged.

To turn it off hold the button down until the light goes out.

    4-Bar LED Light Kit $49.99

All things considered, not bad assuming its half decent and easily returnable if its not up to scratch- but seriously would it kill them to list the lumens, ip rating, and wattage?
All relevant information for planning out a camping kit / power consumption when running off battery ; and comparing it to competition product.

Its an annoying trend they have with all their lighting products for as long as I can remember.

Get a dirt cheap kit or even one of the bright solar lights on Temu. It's what I use for mine.

      • Could you link me to some suitable TEMU/AliExpress alternatives?

    • You're assuming that the manufacturer provides that data, and that it would be credible if it were provided. This is almost certainly a white-label product sold under several brand names.

Aldi are not typically marketing this kind of product to highly discerning buyers who do in-depth comparisons. They usually aim for impulse buyers who can't be bothered to do any research, and buy stuff from Aldi because it's cheap and convenient.

its true, but usually when you see the box, its on the box anyway. Especially for the downlights…which confusingly do not have any info on the website when they go special buys.

Or for instance, there are also tarps in the special, think they'd have the dimensions? absoloutely not, lol.
I did get one a few years back (looks to be identical to the one in this rounds special buys) - and its lasted pretty well as a durable drop mat for my kids to do painting or messy crafts outside.

4WD Supacentre have a similar kit for $39, I'd be more inclined to get one of them, although personally I think most people would be better off with something rechargeable like the Hardkorr U-Lite 4 packs. They're a bit pricier but you remove the need to be hooked up to a battery/car.

one day i will be arsed to roll my own ip68 resin filled ones, sure it will cost WAY more purely in labour, but i already have parts.

And still need to get started on my 12v battery/ solar setup I wanted to do..only been on the backburner for 5 years lol.

        • +1

Yeah same, 12V might end up happening if I actually get this car upgrade happening, although even then I probably wouldn't bother with lights. USB and rechargeable ones are much easier to deal with.

          • @dav3: haha yeah i have a whole bunch of high power torches , and recently got the ozito 18v worklight , which is bloody awesome for the money.

  • I was looking at headlamps previously and ended up with the Wurkkos HD50. $62AUD delivered from AliExpress.

A bit more than I wanted to pay, but the unit is a very solid unit and hasn’t missed a beat using it underneath sinks, handsfree building maintenance jobs, just walking in the dark.

But I can see the allure of the Aldi ones though, due to price and convenience.

    • yeah they are a little pricey but very well made.
i have the hd15. paid a little under $60 from amazon iirc.
      very happy with it.

  • Any thoughts on the solar mat? I'm off camping for a week and trying to figure out what solar setup to be able to charge phones and the like.

    • The solar mat is way over-powered to charge phones from. It has 12V outputs (not 5V as required for phones) and is designed to keep a fridge running, charge batteries for lights etc.

If you only want to charge phones, a decent size USB battery bank that you pre-charge before leaving would be way cheaper and simpler. Of if you really want solar recharge capability, something like this: https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/power-solar/po…

      • +1

It's got a single USB on it but who knows what it runs at, plus I'm guessing they don't want to charge their phone during the day.

A decent battery bank or two and maybe a 21W/28W folding panel from Amazon (~$100) is certainly a better option

      • I probably should have elaborated. I want solar to power an entire families devices, but also lights, maybe a fridge, maybe other things. I don't know yet.

I guess I was more asking, based on size, output and price, is that a decent deal?

Looking at that to go with Bluetti EB3A.

Just not sure about the connector if it can connect to the mat, the unit says it can but somewhere I read that it may need a convertor connector.

Guess try and see if it works.

      • +1

Dude - that's a $450 device. Talk about overkill for keeping a couple phones charged.

        • +1

Some people place a weird importance on charging phones when they're "trying to get away from it all"

      • Sorry I was replying to the solar mat query. Trying to see if anyone else had gotten the Aldi solar mats and worked on the Bluetti.

I use mine to power a refrigerated esky when I am out. At home I use it for the fridge when there is a known outage or black out.

  • How does this compare to the Coleman instant up 6P tent?
Seems to have better specs (190T vs 150T, save 2000mm vs. 1500mm)

    • +1

It lasted me 1 stormy night. I took this and an almost identical Wanderer 6P instant up tent. They were setup right next to each other. It was a very windy night. The Wanderer survived while the Aldi tent was bent in an angle that it wasn't designed for. The frame is quite weak. Should be OK during mild weather.

      • Appreciate the info. Cheers mate

  • I’ve owned a Black Diamond Spot 350 for several years, it’s still going strong, it’s a good a headlamp.
