Samsung Galaxy A05s looks good. I noticed lots of negative reviews about not working with carriers in the US would there be any issues here?
I haven't looked at the reviews, but for peace of mind I'd pay the extra and buy it from a reputable seller on eBay, preferably from a business that will issue you a tax invoice.
Though I will emphasize this phone is poor value and you are much better off with the A35, and you're also buying it from amaysim which is a much safer bet than buying from some reseller who might be just importing Samsungs from overseas.
For some reason she will only buy Samsung. Loves them.

A20 has OLED in HD. All new Samsung will be FHD but only get OLED on the higher ends. If possible, get the 5G models as they are usually more powerful.
Not sure if a used Samsung Note 10 Plus 5g mobile or non 5gb versions would sell as low used for $200, maybe the s-series 10 do (nit sure what they are like) but certainly the Note 10 Plus I can say is a great phone, still was fast when I sold mine 6 months back and now own the Samsung Note 20 Ultra 512gb 5G mobile, another great Samsung phone (need to google if updates apply for the Note 10 they could have the extension for updates Samsung offered)
Just spend a little bit more for the Samsung Galaxy A35 5g from Amaysim online store. It's $299 + $30(cheapest Sim only) = 329 all up.
You can cancel the $30 monthly Sim only plan & go with a PAYG Amaysim plan. Nothing more to spend.
I believe you get at least 4 years worth of software updates from Samsung.A35 5g is a really solid mid ranger for a good price from Amaysim at the moment. Even better if you have the $200 voucher from Amaysim to offset total cost.
Another one would be the Motorola G54 but I would personally go with A35 if I was in your situation.

Samsung Galaxy A05s?? This is the lowest tier Samsung Galaxy released in Australia this year.
Sold on Amazon US via AU for $212.43, international model with LTE Band 28 included, but not Band 3. Note this is a very low-end device with barely enough RAM and no NFC for contactless payments.
The Samsung Galaxy A35 from Amaysim @ $299 is a lot better value, and it has 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates, not to mention a better processor (less lag and 5G network support)
