  • Like dental floss, only easier!

Pros and cons with these vs dental floss.

    • +5

pros: easier on the fingers, no need to stick fingers in mouth, has a slight brushing quality
cons: way more expensive, more waste, not as good as getting rid of jammed food

      • +3

One more cons: has the potential to create gap holes between gum and teeth if wrong size is used.

        • Where do you get that information from, as it sounds pretty out there unless you a ripping your gum and things getting bloody. A 2-3 second brush everyday is probably not going to change gum position.

        • Sure about this? Permanent gum damage?

      • Pro: these reach places floss can’t. If you have a wire on your teeth, these reach between the teeth and below the wire.

    • -1

cons: the absolute deluge of single use plastic waste

      • +1

Piksters also have a bamboo option (not with this sale though), so the only plastic is that case are the bristles.

I suspect that'd be less plastic than a length of floss.

      • +25

Single use? I wash them off and use until the tip gets all bent out of shape.

      • +8

There're some things I'm willing to accept a little plastic waste on. Dental hygiene is one…and as pointed out above, these are more than single use.

        In a completely non-scientific study (I don't have a micro-gram scale), I weighed:
        - 10 x pikster: 7 grams (so less than 1 gram per stick).
        - 1 x plastic container for 250grams cherry tomatoes (woolies): 16 grams
        - 1 x 500ml take away container, including lid: 28 grams

I think there's bigger plastic issues in the world than interdental brushes.

      • +6

These are not single use. You can get an easy month out of it if you are careful.

      • throwing out a whole fridge because compressor needs degassing still, under warranty and they say not worth fixing …. that is real plastic waste considering amount of plastic in a fridge,

    • +14

Pro: if you’ve already got a problem with receding gums so there’s a gap in your teeth (particularly backteeth) these will clean that gap properly. Floss and brushing will not.
(This is dental advice i have received from 4 dentists).

My gums are now healthy since using interdental brushes.

Handy chart for anyone looking for a size comparison against other brands: https://growingsmiles.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/pikster-compa…

    • +3

The downside not specified by others is that this doesn't scrape plaque off the sides of your teeth, where the brush can't reach (e.g. where your teeth touch each other, or nearly do). Only string flossing can scrape this area.

    • They git rid of plaque between the teeth that dental floss doesn't remove. But you have to use a large enough size. I use red. Never had a filling between the teeth since using these.

    • Cons, there will be blood if you use these after long enough of using neither.

      • +6

The blood is a sign your gums are unhealthy. Use these regularly and your gums will stop bleeding and return to good health.

    • +3

youre meant to use these WITH floss

    • +2

It's more expensive than the floss.
My dentist recommended to use both.
This one is essentially for brush off the surface between teeth which is not reachable by a normal toothbrush.
The floss is used to remove some stuff stuck within the teeth.

  • +2
    • Floss picks are great, although Piksters are still handy for a permanent retainer.

    • +1

The handles on these give good leverage. Not dexterous enough to wrap floss around finger and stick hand in mouth.

  • Nice

  • -3

    Not really a deal, eBay 70pk for $18 (25c/ea) vs this 35c/ea and I haven’t looked properly

    • Only limited sizes on that ebay listing though.

    • Thanks for bringing that deal to my attention.

    • Thanks. Bought some from ebay

  • -8

According to pricehipster, this has never been sold at RRP so the 40 percent off 'sale' is misleading since it's never actually been full price to begin with. Also an incredibly wasteful product

    • What would you use instead that's not wasteful?

      • -4

        Oral irrigator

        • +1

The amount of plastic in your oral irrigator is sufficient for many years' worth of plastic in the interdental brushes!

        • What a waste of water!

    • Depends on how many days you use it for, I can get 5-7 days from each

      • agreed, but change "days" to "weeks"

        • I’ll have to do better, i use the yellow and it just looks worn out so i bin it.

      • not sure why you got downvoted. I get roughly the same. I just rinse it each time. Also, while the metal bends easy, it also straightens easy

        • Also add a little toothpaste onto the end for some extra cleaning power.

    • A better environmental option are the bamboo ones, for $17 + delivery ($7 or so) for a 32-pack: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/254348696937

  • How to figure out the size requirement

    • +1

Most stores have a pack with one of each size to try out

  • +7

    Weird for the downvotes lol.

Anyway, thanks OP. Love these, firstly introduced by my dentist.

  • Anyone know how much they are at Costco?

  • people use it to clean shower head and airpods

    • Damn good shot my EarPods needs a clean

  • Funny.
I had a feeling that I bought these cheaper from amazon before but could not remember how much I paid really.
Checked my order details and found I paid almost $20.
Which makes this as a good deal I suppose.
    Upvoted.

  • Nice, I usually pay $20 for these. I recently bought a pack of 60 for $9.50 from Aliexpress and they work fine but I figured I'll buy some from this deal anyway.

    • They sometimes go as far as half price for the 10 pack at Woolies/Big W

  • How do people get these between their teeth? I've trued the smallest one and there was no chance. Thought i was going to damage my teeth or gums, or at very least get it stuck!

    • +4

Then you're very fortunate. stick to floss.

    • +1

Just make sure they are not already turned into calculus and stuck between the gap, just check with your dentist

    • even your molars?

  • Thanks OP, have ordered a box for the mrs.

  • +1

    Same price as Amazon

    • Nice got it delivered

  • -2

    Part of the spotlight foundation

  • +1

These are heaps better and cheaper and they retractable so you can keep them clean and use for a month.

    • +1

Size wise is it the same as Pikster? Thx

      • +1

They are on smaller size so work well for all narrow gaps. I find them better than Pikster and other brands.
They worked well also when I had braces on my teeth. Now I just have a retaining wire on my straight teeth.

  • Costco sells them 39.99 for 120

  • Cool, I've been looking for ways to waste heaps of extra plastic for no reason.
