Is there any free (and safe - as i need to enter payment details) vpn that we can use for one-off online registration, that cover south east asia server?

I tried windscribe, but their south east asia server is under pro license.

    once

Surely just sign up for a trial?

Nord definitely has a trial for 30 days

Seems like I will need to enter payment details and then cancel/manually request for a refund. Seems a bit cumbersome to do compared to if there is a free one that I can just use. If other suggestions are not as good/as safe, I will resort to this as a last option. Thanks!

      • Thats the problem

You are providing your payment details up front when there is no need to do so.

        No security as such.

You could find unauthorised transactions suddenly hitting your account

Setup a revolut account with a digital card. Once you get your money back cancel the digital card (it’s easy and all in the app)

      • Proton

  • I occasionally use the "free" VPN from my Lifetime Getflix Subscription.

    • Why is there a quotation on the free?

Lifetime Getflix wasn’t actually free. Nor was it really lifetime in some sense.

        • ah i see, I checked the website and didnt find any free plan lol..

          • @Succulent: It was a deal around 10 years ago that gave a lifetime license. Can't remember how much it cost but it was before the streaming services his Australia (except quickflix) so many of us were using these smartDNS providers.

            • @Bruceflix: They still offer lifetime license for discounted price of $99

Lifetime subscription was something like $50 back in the day, but it essentially became useless after Netflix blocked Getflix users.
So many OzBargainers bought a lifetime subscription and have probably forgotten about its existence.
Just in case you were one of those, it was a reminder that there was a VPN included.

Opera browser has built in vpn

    • Figaro ?

    • Ah this seems to work for me.

  • I use Urban VPN extension for when I need to use something to subscribe to services in other countries. Disable the extension after use.

    • Does this means you would enter payment details while connected to the VPN? Is this service trustworthy enough?

      • You do know how HTTPS works don't you?

        • Not really, will google for more reading on those. I never typed the https, it looks like nowadays the browser just add them whenever i typed a domain name.

    TunnelBear?

Proton has a free tier and they're the only ones I'd trust. It's limited to 10GB/mo though bc running a vpn is expensive. Anytime you see a VPN provider doing massive discounts, that's a good sign they're making their money another way (probably by selling data)

    • Thank you will check on this.

Proton does not have a free Southeast Asia location, you need a paid account for that. Japan is the closest free location, the other free locations are Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and USA and there are no speed or data limits.

  • If i use any of these free VPN service, and I need to enter payment details with my membership subscription, there is a chance where the payment details that I entered could be stolen/sold by these free vpn service, right?

If you're using a free product, guess who's the product?

    • Would free trials count the same? It could be just their marketing strategy to pull people in the door rather than turning us into a product?

      • Why are you so hesitant in providing payment details for a free trial?

        • +1

In general, I am hesitant in putting any of my payment details anywhere. Arent you?

But maybe it is still safer to put payment details for trustworthy VPN free trials, rather than putting payment details for service that I purchase using non trustworthy free VPN.

@Succulent: If you don't trust a VPN service with your payment details then should you really be trusting them with your browsing history?

            • @dust: I dont mind browsing history. They can see whatever I am browsing as long as they are not taking my money haha..

          • @Succulent: Sign up to Wise, generate a free throwaway card (can have up to 3 in parallel), cancel after providing to the vpn. Simples!

            • @soan papdi: Oh! I do have wise account, but never knew that I can generate free throwaway cards. This would be really useful for scenario like this. Thanks!

  • Speedify and TunnelBear

  • I think Protonvpn has a free tier and a good reputation etc

  • If it's just a one-off and you're happy with Windscribe, they have a $1 option pretty sure - that's somewhat close to free

  • Depends on what you need.
