½ Price Barilla Al Bronzo Pasta 400g $2 Each @ Coles

200

Available online and in-store for me (NSW), but could not find it in the catalogue.
Best to check for your store online for price/stock before making a trip, I'm not sure if this pricing Aus-wide.
Assume pricing will end on Tues like most specials, could be wrong.

Never tried it, but the Barilla Al Bronzo series (red packaging) is supposed to be nicer than the regular blue packaged Barilla.

$2 seems like a deal for decent pasta. IIRC the usual Special price is $3.2 / $3.5. Please note that it's for 400g, not the usual pasta size of 500g.

If you have any thoughts on how it compares to La Molisana, Cucina Matese, Delverde, WW Macro Organic etc. please comment :)

The reasoning goes that bronze die cut pasta is rougher so that the sauce sticks better to the pasta.

I've tried Barilla Al Bronzo, La Molisana, Cucina Matese and also Woolworths Macro Organic, which are all bronze die cut and are all made in Italy.

I'm no expert, but for me all four brands cook up to make very decent quality pasta and there really isn't much that separates them except for price (the Woolworths Macro Organic being the cheapest, followed by Cucina Matese, La Molisana and Barilla Al Bronzo when compared at normal pricing). With the Barilla Al Bronzo at $2, this compares quite well to the Woolworths Macro Organic which is $1.95 (although this was cheaper at $1.65 until recently)

Personally, I find that bronze die cut pasta are better quality than regular pasta, and Italian-made pastas are much better than those made in Australia.

As an Italian here, you are 100% on the money! BRAVO

    • Coles organic is really good too, made in Italy.

I was under the impression Barilla uses high heat to quickly dry their pasta, so it's a darker colour and isn't as pleasant to eat at other brands…. Not sure about bronze cut stuff though.

Where did you find the information on the Macro range being bronze cut? I'm going to be all over the world so if this is the case.

you can tell by looking at it. light colour and rough surface

Yes, exactly this. Dry bronze die cut pasta has quite a distinct look in terms of texture and colour when compared to regular pasta, which tends to be smooth, shiny and darker in colour.

There's nothing on the packaging of the Macro Organics product that calls it out as being bronze die cut, but I've made the categorisation based on the above.

Agree, I like the Cucina Matese as a reasonable everyday low price option. Worth noting that the Al Bronzo at 400g is a smaller pack, and I assume is only about par price per 100g at $2 per pack

Aldi had these about a month back, but I think they were nearer $3 - so that's a good price.

Aldi still has them for 3 dollars at quite a few Sydney stores.

      • ALDI have their own bronze cut pasta now. It's $2.20 or maybe $2.40 all the time but it's good enough quality, certainly much better than the dollar bags.

  • Not worth getting Barilla. Grab some molisana or liguori. Much much better
