This laptop configuration is with 32 GB LPDDR5X-7467MHz (Soldered) upgrade from the base version, which costs $99 (included in the title price).

This is the same as this popular deal from May (part number 83D2CTO1WWAU1). However it is a bit cheaper and better cashback. Final price is about $100 better.

I don't have this laptop but I've been desiring it: the past post said the battery life is great, good display.

You can also get one that is $30 more but with an OLED screen, this is IPS. Some comparison here.

Edit: 20% cashback no longer available

    It's $1 too much

    • +4

      Surely a n00b error

  • +7

Whenvere I see these laptop deals, I have to wonder why our work buys rubbish laptops at inflated prices.

    • +1

If its government, they usually include 4 years warranty onsite, simcard slots etc

      • +7

if it's NSW government they also need to add kickbacks to the purchasing officers

    • +1

      Exactly 💯
We get laptops that are U series i7 ones and they are called 'Performance' category in our workplace.

      I'm like bruh!

      • +2

Worst of all, these rubbish laptops have terribly dim screens.

    • +1

exactly the same in my company, paying almost $3k for all our Dell Latitude 14" laptops, super ripoff !!! Which less than 1/2 the price can have these way better screen Lenovos …

    • +1

The managers who make these decisions are friends with the sales person who are getting a commission.

      • +1

The reason is these companies buy laptops at inflated pricess could be they don't know how to negotiate, or they come with premium support with accidental damage protection, they may have valued addes service like asset tagging, imaging etc. It's not just the price of the hardware. it's everything else that maybe attached to it. Yes i am sales rep for 1 of 3 major laptop vendors.

      • Haven't been friends with any of the 100s of account and sales execs I've dealt and bought IT equipment from in the last 25+ years… Unless you have worked in an IT dept of a company you won't understand why we need to go with business grade laptops like Latitudes or Elite books from HP… Supporting models that change too often is a nightmare when you precure and deploy 1000s of them and the business line versions tend to have longer life cycles and usually better build quality with a better support offering/structure which all comes at a premium. I'm a tech enthusiast and as much as I'd love to use what I know is a better model etc it isn't feasible in a business with a large user base.

It looks like the $30 more setup has OLED, whilst the linked deal has IPS

    • +1

I think you are right, there was some discussion on the previous post about the pros/cons of these options. (see here: IPS has no burn-in risk and is better for battery life, OLED is a better actual display.)

      • How an ips has better battery life than an OLED…

        • -2

          Oled need more juice

            • @smartProverble: Okay if you feel that way….

            • @smartProverble: Only case where oleds use less battery is when they're displaying an image with a lot of black in it. Oled panels will also typically have much higher brightness.

For example, the new arm based dell xps 13s have the option for either an ips or oled panel. LTT tested them and the ips lasted 40% longer.

    • +10

You lose 16GB RAM when you select the OLED.

      • That's a pity. Don't know why they are not offering RAM upgrades for the OLED model.

        • +2

Most likely it's prebuilt inventory they are getting rid of and/or market segmentation.

Asus does this malarkey a lot with their laptops. For example the Zenbook 14, the Ultra 7 model here only tops out at 16GB overseas 32GB. To get 32GB here you need to upgrade to the Ultra 9 version. So we get shafted even more to pay more for extra RAM.

  • Very good price if you get the cashback.

    • Last time i got the cashback capped at $250

    • Has anyone confirmed you receive cashback with Lenovo? One of Shopback's terms with Lenovo is "Purchases using any type of discount which lowers price advertised on the merchant site including but not limited to student education codes, employee discounts and price-matching."

Lenovo requires you to use a promo code to get the discounted price - would that make it so we don't receive cashback? But at the same time, the lower price is advertised on their site making it so you should receive the cashback.

Would really want to know the answer to this ASAP, cashback deal ends at 8pm AEST

      • +1

This code will get cash back and has been confirmed by the rep

        • Thank you! Placed my order and am now hoping Lenovo hurry up and cancel my previous order (ideapad slim 5 AMD) that ships on the 2nd of Sep

  • Do you have to put the promo code to get it to show 32 GB RAM? It's showing 16 GB.

    • +1

The 16GB is a manual add-on. The base model, just 16GB, is $1239, or about $930 with cashback. You can add the 16GB if you want more memory.

Got a little excited for a second, thought this had a half decent little gfx card for games.

  • This one or Ideapad Slim 5 AMD (Ryzen 7)?

    Edit: Use case
It's going to be a work laptop for the Mrs. (self employed)

    No gaming at all.
About a 1 million Chrome Tabs need to be open at a time ( :P )

Work Use - AutoCAD/ArchiCAD/Revit/Sketcup - Mostly Drafting and modelling not rendering
Twinmotion - Basic Rendering (not path tracing)
And of course the mandatory office apps i.e. Outlook/Word/Excel

Currently using an ancient E485 (R5 2500U with Vega 8) which just about gets by for all the above tasks (except Twinmotion) but is slowing down the workflow gradually.
Laptop is attached to a secondary screen but laptop itself is also used (I know…. I've offered to dock the laptop and setup two screens with external KB/Mouse but Mrs. doesn't want to)

I like the R7 processor with 780M Graphics, but 16 GB RAM has me scratching my head!

    • +1

You'd better get a laptop with 32G RAM or 2 SODIMM.

Thinkbook 14/16 gen 7 has SODIMM slot for RAM upgrade:

      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/search?fq={!ex=1649}lengs_Processor_AU_facet_1649:All%20AMD%20Processors&text=thinkbook%2014&rows=20&sort=relevance&display_tab=Products

Stacking with 20% off cashreward and it is a decent price.

You can cross compare the edu price to choice a better deal if you have an edu email.

      • Thanks, " We’re sorry
The ThinkBook 14 Gen 7 (AMD) you’ve selected is no longer available. " from Lenovo website! :(

        • I have found my thinkbook work laptop extremely hot. I only do 10+ Chrome tabs and 1 R studio session.

        • I tried both thinkbook 14 and 16 Gen 7, they can be added to the cart. Not sure why you cannot add into the cart.

          • +1

@BennyHe2018: Yeah same. Ended up ordering the Ideapad Slim 5 with Ryzen 7 upgrade. Cashback also tracked from Shopback.

    Very tempted but no ARM

Can get a surface pro with arm for around this price, and ARM is the future.

looking forward to replace my MacBook to a windows with arm

    • Maybe for Mac. I don't think we will be seeing major ARM adoption for windows for a very long time. windows 10 still has like an 80% market share.

      • Mac is amazing BECAUSE it's on arm, that was the game changer.

        • Mac also has an eco system where Apple wants you to use Apple software for everything so theyre hyper optimised for mac.
The only microsoft software I use is office.

    • You expect the laptop to have arms?!

  • Anyone had hands on time with this particular model?
Interested to hear some impressions on build quality (screen hinge, trackpad & keyboard)

    • +1

All good apart from very annoying keyboard, I hate typing on it.

    • +2

Very happy with mine. Build quality, trackpad, ergonomics are all great for me. Just a really nice computer to work on.

    • +3

      I have this model.

The drivers for ARC video and audio over bluetooth are better now, but they don't exactly have great QA on their releases. Unless you need to solve a problem, don't be an early adopter on drivers. That being said, that's not a Lenovo issue, it's an Intel issue.

The screen is excellent. ARC graphics are anaemic at best. This not for anything but light games.

Keyboard layout isn't unworkable, but my fat fingers still hit wrong occasionally. I disable the trackpad entirely and just use an external mouse. Mistouches are the curse of all trackpads.

The cooling solution sucks. The fans cannot be manually controlled at all and they love to spin up and down like crazy. The minute you use the graphics card it turns into a hairdryer.

Build quality seems no worse than any other laptop. I've no complaints thus far. Likewise battery life (but I'm not the use case for that, I'm using it as a desktop replacement in my dubious housing situation rather than for its day-to-day portability).

      • Thanks very much for the detailed feedback, I feel better about skipping this deal now. As much as I don't want to buy another MacBook I'm starting to think it's probably the best option - I prefer windows to macos, but Mac build quality is too good to pass up.

  • Can I expand storage in this

    • As far as I can see it only has one NVME slot. Some selected 16" models have two NVME slots.

  • this or 8gb m3

    • Makes me wonder if windows on arm will be sufficient with 8gb, like how people say 8gb is enough for Max.

  • Intel Core Ultra 5-125H vs Ryzen 7 8845HS?

    • +1

I got the 125H on this laptop, 32GB RAM and love it, plays ksp2 occasionally and let's me run a thousand open tabs

  • Why wouldn't you upgrade the SSD for $69
Unless the SSD is upgradeable and not soldered

    • doesn't it say it's a 2240 SSD?

      • 2242 but it doesn't mention soldered. Anyway I think for an extra $69 the 512gb totalling 1tb seems worth it. But I guess if you can source your own it may be better to use stock and buy your own ssd

  • Comparing build quality, would this laptop or a ThinkPad E Series last better long term?

I generally use my laptops but obviously try to avoid abusing them. Have read some Lenovos are susceptible to dodgy hinges etc

    • +1

I'd take the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i over the Thinkpad E series any day of the week purely based on the screen quality itself. That being said the build quality of the
Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i is better due to the aluminium frame and feels more premium.

  • +2

Nice, shame I saw this 10 minutes after the cashback offer ended :)

  • any gefore 4060 laptop?

  • I am checking out now and requested a quote. The help person has taken off $7 and thrown in a free urban Sleeve Case worth $33. I am also checking out with Cashback as they offer 10% 'till midnight.

    • +1

Be careful with the cashback - one of the terms are: "Any assisted orders or negotiated deals (phone/email/chat) – rep IDs will be attached the orders and cashback automatically rejected."

I can't confirm if the offer you received from the agent will affect your cashback but I'm just putting it out there

(btw if you ordered a couple hours earlier you could've got 20% back via ShopBack ($250 limit tho))

  • +2

One of those times when I need to put my phone down and go to sleep, instead of spending $$$ due to FOMO.

My 7th Gen i5 8gb ram4ram 14" from 6 years ago (bought 2nd hand for $350, 8 years old in total) still works for daily tasks, and I am a developer. Sometimes it requires patience, and managing the number of tabs. Sometimes it means killing tabs (AWS websites are absolute ram4ram hogs, memory leaks?). But 95% of the time, it has been a reliable machine, albeit must be handled with care as it's brittle (plastic).

…but it still works somehow and is good enough. At what point do you get an upgrade…

    • +1

I'm in the same boat, 8th Gen i5, 8gb ram, developer, pretty much does everything I need just soemtiems requires a bit of patience with 25+ tabs, code and slack running at the same time.

Hoping to upgrade to arm if the situation gets a bit better (not that it's too bad at the moment)

    • +1

The LG Gram has a 16'' widescreen, half the ram and storage.

This Lenovo is 14'' 'square' screen, double the ram and storage.

Price wise, they are more or less the same.

  • Missed cashback, should i wait till the new year to get a work oled laptop with 32gb? Don't need until then anyways
