New Balance FuelCell Rebel V4 - Graphite Black $149.99 + $15 Delivery ($0 C&C/ $160 Order) @ Hype DC

250

Lowest price I've seen on a great pair of running shoes in Graphite Black colour.

Versatile and lightweight daily trainer which can pick up the pace. More stable ride than V3 and suitable for wider feet. A few mates have these and enjoy them immensely.

Runrepeat gives them a good write up as well.

A few sizes left.

Yea these are excellent shoes. I've used them for between 5k and 30km runs. Sweet spot around 5-10k.

    • Would you wear these for a full marathon? Or should I go for something else? I'm looking at doing sub-4 marathon and my friends suggested more cushion rather than plated shoes for my aim.

I've been doing my long runs in these (25-35k) the last few weeks while waiting for the Superblast 2s to be available again. I wouldn't recommend it, their sweet spot is giving it a nudge between 5-15k, a full mara in these could get pretty rough

I did my first full last month (GCM 3h32) using the NB Elite 4. They were perfect for the job.

When I did a long run using a Glycerin vs using the Elite (to get used to it), the difference in how tired the legs felt afterwards was immense (a lot fresher with the Elite).

And I would agree with the others that the Rebel is not the best for longer runs.
I don't have them, but saw plenty of reviews. They're ideal for tempo/speed sessions.

      • not sure if this helps, but the FuelCell SuperComp Trainer v3 is marketed as having the most cushion out of NB's performance runner range. Still plated though.

But I'm wondering if you might have to look at another brand to find what you're after

        • I like NB because it has wider toe box and not super expensive like ASICS. I didn't know I have 2E feet when I first started running and my Ultraboost messed up my feet.

          • @ChairmanMeow: NB is my favourite brand, so I hear you. I thought Asics was similarly priced though, but I could easily be wrong about that

Set a 10km PB at a race in these on Sunday!

      Congrats!

  • I m kinda scared of getting another pair of shoe with thick outsole. Got the ASIC gel nimbus 25 about 6 months , twisted my ankle 6 times while walking.

    • Are you only walking? Do you mean the thickness of the midsole? You might find the Kayanos more suitable and stable for walking. These are lower stack and designed for running.

I find it quite actually enjoyable for walking too.

      • I just bought it for day to day use. it was very comfortable but ankle twisting is an issue I m wearing the 50$ Adidas Ozelia I got fron kogan for now.

        • Super comfy shoes. Try a few stability options next time. Should help with your rolling.

    • +1

look for 'stability' shoes if you don't fancy the big soft cushion/bouncy stack shoes.

I would check if the sizing you're wearing is correct and try 'wide' fit for added stability? gel nimbus 25 is not a crazy high stack shoe in my books

    • Stability shoes and a lower stack height will help with preventing rolling.

However the root cause needs to be addressed, your ankle is weak.

Doing daily ankle raises will significantly reduce the ankle rolling. I've been through the process myself.

    How are these for walking?

    • +1

I have these for walking. they're the 'bouncier' type feel as opposed to 'soft, squishy' feel. it's very 'light', minimal cushion on top/sides type of shoe in contrast with 1080v13 (or similar) which is a bulkier, heavier, more cushioned overall type shoe with soft and squishy cushion.

Both are fantastic for walking in my opinion - just depends on which type of feel you prefer.

      • Perfect i’m going to Japan soon and planning on doing a lot of walking. How did you find these shoes fit? True to size?

        • Yes, true to size. It'll serve you well in Japan.

          Have fun!

Excellent price for an excellent pair of runners.

I've burnt through 2 pairs of these (over 700km in each) and they've performed very well for easy, tempo and long-run efforts. Highly recommend.

The wider toe box area is a big plus
