My favorite beer, unsure if these are imported ones or those that are brewed in Australia now. Bought a few to keep me going! 🙂‍↕️

Would be great if someone could confirm. Will pull the trigger if it’s imported from Japan.

    • Whats the difference ?

      • +3

The Japanese made ones are good. The Australian made ones are terrible.

Was an alcoholic on my last trip to Japan mid this year, even took several cans inside USJ and Disney parks, but went total Sober when I came back here. Just can't justify the price and taste difference. Well, saved me money and calories since June. ^_^

They're brewed here, we rarely get the imports now.

Best way to kill a brand. First Chinese bottles and now local cans! RIP!

    • Bought plenty of Japan brewed in Lasoo Deals this year. Supplied by CUB.

Cans are always imported from Japan, bottles are not

Edit: I'm wrong… Never buying these again in that case

I bought slab of these last week from Dan's, it's no longer imported but made in Australia trash, tastes like Carlton Draught don't bother!

    • +3

Totally agree. Save your money and buy some other continuously fermented tripe.

    • Nothing like Carlton Draught, which is a far tastier "standard" beer imo. The Japanese brewed version is okay on a hot day - clean refreshing, inoffensive. Probably perfect for non-beer drinkers to try.

500ml cans are now brewed in AU. Its printed in the carton.

    • That's a shame, but at least they're printing it on the carton and not trying to hide it, like some other brands.

    Not brewed overseas anymore

  • Oh man that sucks guess we have to go to Japan for the good stuff. The red one rules I think its the lager.

  • +3

there are still some japanese import options, like Orion etc

  • The cans have been made in Australia for about 3 years now. RIP Asahi.

    • My last carton I bought in April this year at my local Dan was still brewed in Japan. Sadly current stock is AU.

It's very hard to get any Asahi from Japan. The imported ones were available on Lasoo, but currently out of stock.

Everything is going to shit to the point I don’t really enjoy any food/drink anymore. Ridiculous prices don’t help either. But quality is slipping everywhere. Nothing tastes as it used to..

If we were Samurai we would burn the factory down until Japan sent us the good stuff and not this shit

Failing this one can always email Asahi Japan their criticisms. They are a serious company, they have a reputation to maintain and having so many unhappy Australians can't be good for it.

        • +2

          just sent email

Or take a plane to Japan, and drink sake with mafia

I just got back from japan and it’s not even close, I also took a photo of the Japanese and Australian one when they swapped over the Australian one has no head and taste like xxxx or something. So I stopped buying it

  • I was in DM two day sago and all brewed in Aus now. Cans were not silver chrome colour anymore either but a kind of cream striped colour. Asahi has gone the way of Pabst and Heineken 500ml cans and all brewed in Aus. Monsuta 500ml cans still imported but will prob follow trend. Why TF they do this is redic, no one ever buys these cans anymore after they brew under license. Anecdotally people don't buy them but also in stores they don't stock as much anymore so people obviously don't. For people who say whats the difference or don't think there is a difference? Psssh don't worry about it, go drink your Great Northern.

Not sure if this is everywhere, but I have noticed that some Liquorlands are stocking proper imported Japanese beer like Yebisu, Orion, Sapporo, and Suntory Premium Malts. I even managed to snag some at nearly Family Mart prices ($12AUD for a 4 pack).

If you can't get to Japan in person, a JDM walking beer and a bossu are at least some small consolation. Given the amount of us in Japan, drinking Japanese beer surrounded by Australians is probably a representative experience of Japan anyway…

Walking beer haha. I like the train and breakfast beers as well
