Neighbour's Cat Pooping in My Backyard

Ok so my neighbour's cat is pooping in my backyard and this has been going on for a while now. I haven't approached my neighbour yet but I'd like to know what's the best course of action?

Have you asked it politely to stop?

    • +21

      It said, "meow".

  • This is from Reddit:

My wife’s Okie grandfather swore that if you fill milk jugs with water, cap them, and leave them at the corner of your lawn, cats will stay off the lawn. I have no idea if it works or why, but worth a try?

    Maybe give that ago?

I heard that if you do a pagan dance by the full moon naked, you will stop cats coming onto your lawn. You will need to chant loudly while naked, and also sacrifice a live goat.

I have no idea if that works or why, but worth a try?

    • That was an old 80's tv prank that went viral. It does work, but some people believe in it.

If watching reels has taught me anything it's either cucumbers or alfoil for cat reactions. Just make sure you video it.

I find it better to blast them with the hose.
They soon learn because they hate getting wet

get a cat and make him/her poop on their side

Read that you need something strong smelling they won’t like. They were suggesting coffee grounds, moth balls, etc. if you spot the cat doing it you could make a loud noise to frighten it off. Maybe talk to the neighbour and ask them to make a spot in their garden that the cat likes to use. Cats tend to like secluded areas. Ours go under the house, which is good until we need to crawl under there. In the old days we had an area of big leafy plants that gave them privacy.

    Acquire a pet wedge-tailed eagle.

Get two and rent them out to the surrounding neighbours for an eco friendly side gig

Poop in his backyard and see how he likes it.

Me to my neighbour: hey can you control your cat, it’s always roaming my yard at night antagonising the possum in my yard , and shitting all over the place

      Neighbour: nah

Also me: trims over hanging branches of neighbours tree over and deposits them in a neat bunch in front of his property

Same Neighbour: HEY YOU CANT DO THAT!

      • +3

Did you put cat poo in the tree trimmings?
        .

Neighbour's cat did same with ours. My wife complained to the neighbour. She said it's good compost for our lawn. They've moved, but I didn't really care; I got on with the girl's dad who past away a few years ago.

Personally I would have gotten on with the girls mum but no judgment here

      • +6

Stacy’s mum does have it going on - or so the legends say.

      • Especially if she was still alive.

    get a dog

Flick back over with a shovel or get a large dog.

An action activated solar light might be a deterrent, most cats are pretty smart though.

Depending on the council you can trap a nuisance cat (they will provide the trap at your request) and you take it to the council pound. The cat can be collected by the owner after a release fee is paid.

Motion activated sprinkler setup. It should only take a couple of nights for the cat to get the message.

  • Get a slingshot.

    • Illegal, last i looked.

But it's the original measure of speed!

"Goes like shit off a shanghai!"

      • Slingshots? Illegal?

Same problem, there are always many stray cats where I am and the council do nothing about it. I started trapping them as the council will pick them up. I have cameras everywhere and noticed a few that I couldn't catch for weeks with the trap so I ended up getting one of these to add to my arsenal.

    Scarecrow Motion Activated Sprinkler Repellent

It has helped a lot although now I want to buy 10 and daisy chain them together. Also fun to watch my nephew get hit by it because he forgets it's there.

I used this with success. Have to reapply it after it rains. Keeps my dogs out of the veggy patch too.

  • Nerf gun

  • Broken Glass on top of fencing haha, Na probably do a talk with neighbor first

Stray cats don't last long around us - there are too many foxes prowling at night

I was letting my cat out and I thought he was just staying in our backyard. I was mortified when my neighbour told me he was jumping the fence and pooping in his garden and was incredibly apologetic. I immediately came over, cleaned it up and sprayed it with a plant safe urine-off like spray, and also stopped my cat from going outside again.

So talk to your neighbour and let them know. If it still keeps happening, speak to your council regarding options.

    • Decent owners like you are very rare.

    22 with quiet rounds.

    • Zeds. About cap gun noise level.

I had the same problem and tried all the natural remedies (OzBway) but in the end this worked 100%. Just monitor for drips after initial install.

We just bought a new place and the neighbors cat takes dumps everywhere in the yard! It annoys me too, it smells SO bad. I like the neighbor and we get along though, in a similar boat to you I want to bring it up but not piss them off

    • Try spraying common, cheap household vinegar in the areas where the animal roams.

  • get a dog

We have sprayed the homemade spray in the past around entry fences and it has done the trick, there is many suggestions from the council’s website

  • Try spraying household vinegar in the areas where the animal roams and or defecates.

Enjoy the delights of suburbia and selfish neighbours… /s

Dont approach your neighbour unless you want conflict. Some councils have strict rules about cats. In my councils cats are not allowed out at all. The council will free of charge provide a trap. Once caught they collect take to pound then approach the owner.

Most cat owners will not all the sudden keep the cat indoors and dont actually realise how far a cat will roam.

    • yes. get a cat trap from council.
they will have to pay to get it out.
plus it will get checked for registration.

  • Used to have a gel gun, neighbours cat learned real fast. Motion activated sprinkler or one of those motion activated pet deterents which emit high pitch tone are about best option now.
