PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2) $549, Horizon Zero Bundle $629 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

800

PSVR2 discount finally reached down under. Have been quite annoyed seeing the US and UK getting their discount for almost a month.

Been waiting for a long time for this to be priced reasonable and also a having PC compatibility to justify a device that have ongevity post-PS (Yeah yeah most people need to fork out another $90 for an adaptor, stop complaining!.

Yeah yeah, Quest 3 is better. Some of us want VR for PS and PC!

Really wanted to try this headset out at launch but the discounting feels like it’s come too late. Still a good chunk of money to spend on a headset where the only games I’m interested in playing right now are Gran Turismo 7, Call of the Mountain and Resident Evil. Doesn’t appear to be much of a push to get other AAA titles supported. Also can’t use it to play the few 3D Blurays I accumulated over the years like the PSVR1 could support.

Hopefully they turn it around a bit but think I’ll continue to wait and see if new software drops or there’s further steeper price cuts.

Same situation here. If this was launch price I probably would have bought it.. but this price happened way too late

I'm happy to continue waiting and see if there is any further investment into first party titles.

    • +10

The real value in it at this price is if you have PS5 + a good PC. A mod like UEVR can play almost anything in VR and something like Alyx or Cyberpunk with a VR mod is incredible

For PS5 alone it’s still a tough sell imo.

      • +2

Yeah I don’t have a PC that’ll be able to take advantage of it. Thatd make it much more versatile a purchase. If I did then HL:Alyx would tip me over the line. A PS5 port of that title also would probably be enough tbh. Love the HL franchise but haven’t been able to play Alyx to date and I’m certain I’m missing out.

    • +2

Realistically you should expect the games out now to be all you're going to get. No game dev is interested in supporting VR given how it hasn't gone that well and even Sony has cut back significantly in their VR studios.

Feels so deja vu … (PS Vita)

  • A friend of mine has PSVR2, gave the Horizon VR game a go but was feeling nauseous within 20-30 minutes. The movement is kinda poorly thought-out and while I almost stomached it, the poorly performing 60fps with drops (and constant reprojection) I just couldn't.

I would most likely not recommend this to anyone to be used with a PS5, unless that's your only option.

Anyone aware if they're planning to add HDR support for PC?

    • It’s mostly an awesome game but some of the movement isn’t great. Any time I had to spin around the sweeping movement made me unwell. The Dino battles were great fun.

    • +1

I loved the movement. When you're making all your grabs quickly you can almost leap up the walls and use the speed/momentum to skip platforms alltogether :)

Cute of Sony to do this, but yeah nah…

I’ll wait until there is more significant and compelling first party exclusives (like how the PSVR1 managed to get) before considering in.

At its current circumstance, 1 or 3 ‘significant releases’ it has isn’t enough, and when its PC compatibility is butchered/ constrained - hardware wise (like it is currently).

I might bite when this probably hits >$300 or >$250, IF it still remains unimproved/ unsupported by Sony.

(I hope the PC games community somewhat finds a way to do away with the PC adapter completely and unlock the headsets full hardware potential at some point)

Any news of the VR3? Is it coming soonish?

    • +5

If it was backwards compatible with psvr1 that would help it make it more worth it too.

      • This too!

Surely Sony can make that happen (If it wants to?) + 3d blue ray movies compatibility? (Someone here mentioned it isn’t)

      • It works with PSVR1. However you need the PSVR1 set-up and a camera adapter for PS5. PSVR1 on a good day can go for $80 in the used market

    • -1

I don't think there will be any more first party exclusives. Sony opening it up to the PC is them signalling they're giving up on it.

      • +1

Check on the PS app. Please search:
        PSVR titles announced:
        1 - Behemoth
        2 - Alien Rogue incursion
        3 - Into the Radius
        4 - Metro Awakening
5 - Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate
        6 - Aces of thunder

        Is that enough?
Yeah .. PSVR2 is dead LOL!

They are diversifying which is a very smart tactic.
The HDR, haptic removal of PC games IMO is a marketing strategy so you don't ditch (or not buy) a PS5 unit for exclusivity. Plus the PS5 Pro will be released soon. Smart coders will unlock these blockages on PC gaming.

        • Which of these are first party and exclusive?

          • +1

@MrMcHairyHead: My bad. I should of read your post correctly. I automatically interpreted your post as PSVR is dead, like many other negative posts. Yes I agree. No exclusives however there are many 3rd parties as you've seen. Maybe the next iterration of GT8? Considering its quite popular.

            • +1

@vinni9284: Unfortunately at the usual release schedule GT8 won't be out until about 2030!

I'm not sure if we'll see any more first party games or not, but multiple indie devs have said Sony are supporting them behind the scenes to help optimise games for the headset, and there are some third party bangers coming

              • +1

@McFodder: Definitely looking forward to it. ATM I have been taking advantage of purchasing a few physical copies of PSVR1 & 2 titles. Some are getting for a steal in the used market. Enjoying the VR experience. Especially Half Life and recently finished Red matter 1 & 2. Cheers

For PCVR the Pico 4 Ultra has been released in China, and will be coming soon. It has specs about the same as Quest 3 and will likely represent a good bang for the buck purchase. And the Pimax Crystal Light appears to be another great buy - admittedly higher end though. But it is a significant bump in resolution and has a display port.

Point being PCRV has a lot of choses which is a good thing. This Sony being discounted might kick off further discounts in the future.

If this headset was backwards compatible with PSVR1 I would have probably bought one… then I could of at least played through the 15 or so games in the backlog I never played on PSVR1 because it wasn't a great experience. This feels like a dead platform, might pick one up on a clearance sale. Honestly surprised at how dead VR is in general.

    • I suppose there were technical reasons as to why it wasn't backwards compatible.

It really is a missed goal though. Why buy this with minimal games when and if psvr3 comes out you will need to start all over again.

      • I'm sure there's a bunch of reasons why it wouldn't have worked or even been that great an experience on a newer headset… ultimately it just kind of reminds how little I used the OG PSVR.

    • +1

Honestly surprised at how dead VR is in general

It's okay on Quest. Especially within modding community.

      • Quest 3 seems the obvious pick at the moment but even then, starting at about $800 I feel like there's a lot of other places I could put my gaming budget… like a steam deck or towards a gaming PC etc. It's a shame because whenever I use VR I always think that's so cool but 5 minutes later you've kind of forgotten about it.

        • I think Quest 2 might scratch your itch, don't need to go Q3 tbh. I also have Steam Deck and most of my gaming recently has been going into that. Q2 I always mostly just used it for fitness games.

If I was you I would just get a SD if I had to choose between those two. And maybe pickup a second hand Quest 2. Just clean it thoroughly before use and replace the foam inside.

    • Where is it dead?
      https://camera-adaptor.support.playstation.com/en

I bought a used PSVR1 with controllers for $80. Camera is for free.

      • I've got the camera adapter for the psvr1 for the ps5. I think it's more there's just not a lot of investment in VR games by Sony or other big game publishers. The fact you could buy a PSVR1 for $80 kind of reflects this.

        • Half Life Alyx is the current hottest VR game. I've been enjoying this on my PSVR2 OLED screen looks stunning. Now supported on PC platform too

          • @vinni9284: Half Life Alyx came out 4.5 years ago bro, it looks great but it's one game. I played some Resident Evil 7 on PSVR1 and it was cool. I love the technology but the mainstream VR market is dead in the water other than indie games.

            • @Sidog: All good cuz. It's a choice to buy. Similar to buying anything else. The VR is a niche market and not designed for mainstream gaming. I think we all know that. Plenty of new games will be released so no, don't agree with you that VR market is dead.

  • +1

not bad, just sold me q2 for $330, can re buy…..

  • +6

Oh, is Sony scaling back support of an expensive product full of promise that never quite got there?

laughs in year one PS Vita owner

  • +7

A lot of hate here, but I do enjoy the PSVR2 on the PS5. Not enough time to play all the games in my library (constrained to a few hours a week), however, I do really enjoy it and have no regrets (I purchased it at launch). I have the PC adapter and have given Alyx a 5-minute go (I need a better Bluetooth card for PC), looking forward to playing it fully.

    • +3

      This.
Too many of this media crap on PSVR2 is dead etc. Many new titles that are being released for PS5.
PC adapter is terrific. I can even play VR games that I got for free from Epic games weekly deals.
With PS5, PC adapter/Steam/Epic libraries and PSVR1 with camera adapter, every base is practically covered.

      • +2

And while there are missing features such as HDR, eye tracking and haptic feedback (only basic rumble), there is at least a community effort in restoring these features and more to the headset with a separate driver.
If you have a PS5 and a capable PC, this and the PC adapter is a literal bargain for what you get, with little compression needed.

Had this at launch. Sold it 2 weeks later after completing horizon, which ended up being more of a chore after the first 2 chapters..

Great hardware.. software side not so much. Such a shame though.

    Got myself a Q3 instead.

  • tell ya what, get the base closer to $400 and horizon bundle round $450-500 and i might experiment with it… i'd expect that to be a gimmick and GT7 seems like the only point now and into the future, and realistically even if you're full sim cockpit schumacher, you're not gonna use it all the time. tough sell.

  • +2

Thanks, bought one as an upgrade to my Quest 1. Figured it’s worth it for me just for GT7, and also had RE4/8 sitting in the backlog and probably some others picked up on PS+ throughout the years. Not to mention I can finish my abandoned Alyx playthrough that I had been waiting for a better headset to do properly…

  • +3

I was looking at this post thinking, why is there a double post… Went looking for the earlier EBgames post and noticed the drop in price. Cancelled my Amazon order from midnight and reordered at the cheaper price. Thanks OzBargainers!

  • +6

surprised at all the negativity here. I love my one. Gt7 and tetris effects are great - especially Gt7.

    • XAUG2024 code says its not valid for team members? I work for Woolies.

    • Cart value is over $500 so it doesn’t work but thanks anyway.

  • +7

PSVR2 + GT7 + SIM RIG is so much fun, especially with the recently revamped physics in GT7.

    • If only Sony would make all sim gear compatible with the PS5. Maybe they might release GT7 for PC with cross play?

  • Can you just buy the headset like the VR1 without the controllers?

    • +2

Nope - the PS5 controller doesn't have the lightbar to be tracked like the Dualshock 4 did so outside of racing games with a wheel setup, every game uses the controllers.

      • +1

not every game - tetris effects doesn't need them.

        • +1

True - I think Thumper might be able to be played with the Dualsense too actually - thought I was missing something when I posted but couldn't think of any examples.
But the library without them would be very limited.

  • +3

Got one thanks. Held off from the last deal at $740 month or 2 ago.

  • Ah, this explains the Amazon price drop.

  • +1

Got one. Been playing Gran Turismo 7. It is very immersive. I have some others downloading.

  • Picked up a base set, I think my expectations were too high for GT7, it's definitely immersive but looks way better on my OLED TV. Also picked up the PC adapter and it works fantastic, easy to setup. Need a pretty powerful rig though, I have a RTX3080 and feel I need more performance…

  • $519 now with $30 off

    • cant use on VR, its in the ts and cs

    • $30 off not applicable to PS VR.

  • Back to $879 EVERYWHERE 😳
