this might be up someones alley

does it come with the latest issue of "King & Country"?

    • That's a deeeep cut right there.

    • +1

Ah, yes, without question my favourite magazine: soft,
      strong and thoroughly absorbent.

  • +1

Tempting, given it's cheaper than the 7800X3D but going to do my best to hold.

    • what are you holding out for? is there a launch coming soon?

      • +3

AMD Ryzen 9000X3D Series Release Date is Expected in early January 2025.

        • +1

I'm just going to wait for the 7950x3d to have a price drop and go for that tbh.

          • @jaygee: If the 9950X3D ends up the same as the 7950X3D, I might just buy the latter instead.

        • I've read 10th October, probably bought forward due to terrible Ryzen 9000 sales

        • +1

I'm kind of wondering if that will do well. Usual issue with x3D is the clock has to be lower to keep the temps in check. However with the 9000 cores running the same speed as 7000 with less power, there's scope for the 9000X3Ds to run faster than then 7000X3Ds and so delivery higher performance off the back of higher efficency.

    • If you aren't gaming its ok.

If you are gaming 7800X3D is way better.

    • Might be a good idea to hold,

lol not an AMD person. What kind of person is still Intel at this point?

      • +27

Intel is the king of RMA's

        • Not if you get anything that’s not Raptor Lake, as that is the architecture that’s having issues.
Alder Lake is just what Raptor Lake built off of anyway, so if you want many cores but without the issues, then 12th Gen is the best.

          • @FujinShu: Yea but why would you purchase something two gens old if you can just buy AMD and dodge the bullet?

            • +1

@R3XNebular: I agree with that, but Intel CPUs are better in niche workloads, such as having a superior video decoder and encoder than Ryzen, as well as being able to idle at much lower power draw because of its monolithic architecture, making it ideal for bursty server workloads that don’t require the server to work 24/7.
Other than that, performance per watt is superior on Ryzen, and it’s not on a dead platform (yet).

It's kind of weird to be an anything person. Buy what's fit for purpose and good value at the time you're in the market.

My new favourite ‘person’ is people that say ‘I’m a HBO guy, not Netflix’

        Ok champ.

I'm a big oxidised chip guy

    I posted a deal on 7900x3d for $510… before

This is a good find Mr Not an AMD person, thanks

  • Compared to $180 Ali Express 7500F?

    • +1

      It doesn't …

    • About $320 more expensive.

    • +11
      • More expensive
      • Better
    • I am new to Austalia. Is it safe to buy higher price products from Ali Express or Temu? I always think they only sell cheap and low quality products on these two platform. Higher price product might be high chance to be fake, this is just the old stereotype in my mind. Just feel unsure. Thanks for any advice.

      • +4

I would say no. It is not worth the risk and the lack of warranty.

      • Yeah for sure, it depends on what you buy though, buying CPUs from a choice store is generally alright, as long as your able to test within the 90 day warranty period offered by Ali-express. Always do your due diligence when buying online though, this should apply to not just Ali-express but literally any online market and retailer.

      • You can, but you need to be careful what store you are buying from (Aliexpress anyway, I wouldnt touch TEMU). If others have had good experiences, youll prolly be ok. Ive bought $1500 3d printer for reference.

That said, if you have a warranty issue, you just destroyed any savings.

I wouldnt buy higher end cpus from either site, amazon though 100% I would.

  • hold… it can go lower…

Cons: Performance for gaming isn't as good as the 7800X3D, which has been on sale for not much more then this
    Pros: It's not intel.

  • Im holding out to see what will 15th gen Core 9 Ultra CPUs will be like. Intel can probably finally pull ahead of Ryzen at the very top with the expected lower temps, higher single core and gaming performance as a whole.

    • Im holding out to see what will 15th gen Core 9 Ultra CPUs will be like

"Toasty" or "well done" is my prediction.

Intel can probably finally pull ahead of Ryzen at the very top with the expected lower temps, higher single core and gaming performance as a whole.

Intel could do a lot of things if they hadn't of sat on their asses for the past 3 architectures, invested the square of root jack sh*t into R&D and QA and instead deliberately decided to cover-up serious known issues with their most recent generation CPUs which will now tank their brand's reputation and sales for years to come.

      • +2

It's not just their CPUs. Their NICs have become unreliable pieces of shnitt, their laptops are similarly unreliable, etc. Intel is systemically broken and will only get worse in the coming years. It's a real shame because they used to be all about high quality.

    • +1

I await Intel pulling a veritable bunny farm out of the hat by delivering 20% extra performance, with 100W less power, all with no Hyperthreading (usually good for 30% extra performance).

I expect something that has 10% more performance when Hyperthreading wouldn't help, but 10% less when it would - and power consumption very close to the 14th gen levels.

    • Intel has been talking up performance per watt, AI, e-core improvements, i-gpu improvements and very little that translates to high end gaming improvements.

Even the IPC improvements on single core are around 5%, with clock speeds not expected to be much higher than the existing gen. It's definitely going to focus on lower temps and higher stability this generation. Which is the right thing to do, it just means gamers should stick with AMD, even with the 9000 series being pretty meh.

I'm looking forward to replacing my micro sff PC, but my gaming rig isn't looking like it'll move from an X3D chip anytime soon.

  • If you buy just a CPU, where do you guys buy the rest pieces of the computer for bargain price? i.e. motherboard, case, graphic card and ram.
    Thank you for the advices.

  • Good for a server?

  • +1

Any specials for an AM4 generation CPU?

  • +1

Interesting review recently by Hardware unboxed, average of 10% increase in gaming with new Windows 11 release with 7900x and also gen5. Thats a huge increase, makes this a lot more interesting value wise, should be a great allrounder. Going to bite the bullet and order.

    • I think it was with 7700x and 9700x but should scale similarly with the rest of gen 4. I think I might too!
