My 15+ year old Denon AVR-790 finally packed it in last night, so I was on the hunt for a replacement and found that Amazon have the Denon AVR-X580BT on sale for $492. It's entry level, but it has the features I need. I priced matched at JB Hifi so I can collect it today, but the free 1 day shipping with Amazon may be handy for someone.

Shows $492 for me - are you a Prime member? Maybe it's a member only price? I can see that Selby are selling it for $595 from their Amazon store.
Yeah I'm a prime member. When I click the link it says sold by Selby. Can't see option to change.
That's strange. I'm in WA, so maybe it's location specific or something? Sorry… :/
@Stalker: Shows $492 for me in Melbourne and I am a Prime member. Cheers
@Stalker: $492 for me and in WA & Prime member
@Stalker: I'm in Canberra and it's showing as 492 for me, ships and sold by Amazon. There's Selby and KG warehouse in the "other buying options" section.
@Stalker: I'm in Darwin. :/ first time I have encountered a different price to others.
@Pidgeon: Amazon has started to restrict shipping outside metro areas. It all started about a month ago, they even started deleting pime members subscribe and saves because of it. Bad.
Canberra $492. not prime member. ships/sold by amazon au
Same with 8K
hook up a TV and get a 2K picture.
$482 at Good Guys Commerical (pickup or plus delivery) for those who have access.
I got this for my 3.1 setup and use it with stremio on the TV. Most codecs it plays properly, only got the odd one that doesn't support the original audio file.
Works well with e-arc and Ps5 as well.
3.1 is the way to go, so underrated. Get quality mains and centre and nice sub. So versatile without running wires for surround which is vastly overrated imo.
For anyone looking at a budget setup, I got good quality speakers and a subwoofer second hand. Facebook marketplace or hi-fi buy sell groups are a good place to start.
You can get 3 speakers for around $300. They'll be over a decade old but still function fine. A good old subwoofer can also be had for around $250.
If you sail the seven seas, you'll want an avr that can play modern codecs so I would suggest not getting a decade old avr second hand
This is solid advice.
I recently got an used Yamaha 3064 with kit speakers for $140 it plays all useful codecs, not atmos as it is only 5.1
@zxcvb - I have to disagree that 3.1 is the way to go, and that surrounds are overrated, but I do agree with your comment about purchasing quality front floor standing speakers, a quality centre speaker, and a quality subwoofer, however not just one subwoofer like you said, but 2. What I care about is being able to replicate as much as I possibly can in my home the directors intent and how they want me to experience the audio track, as close as it was to the original theatrical release, so meaning for example if 2.0 or 5.1 was the original audio then I do prefer to listen to those mixes… However I do also like having the option of an updated Atmos mix.
I see people complain all of the time about setting up and running wires for side and back surrounds, I have never found this a difficult task in my apartment, the speaker cable for my rears run across the floor in the middle of my living room directly in front of my setup with a shaggy rug on top them covering them, you can’t see them and people don’t even know they are there… The wires are fed to the back of my home theatre recliner lounge/seating and straight up the inside of the poles of the speaker stands at the back of the room.
To add to your wiring comment.
I actually got someone to run one side with some nice thick 11 gauge wire from the back of the TV unit area. It wasn't even expensive to get someone in since it was a cash job and a fairly quick thing to do.
I do have the other side running against the wall as it isn't easily possible to do on that side of the house however - Prior to this I had ethernet cables and speakers + a rug too and it was decent
@Matt86: To add to this, I got some d-line quadrant trunking to run cables to the surrounds as well, super easy install, looks professional and completely blends in.
I might be the exception then. Ran quality 5.1 kits (VAF, KRIX,B&W, Paradigm,Aaron I had many kits) for many years, fully wired due to house on stilts. Eventually realised surrounds were a distraction, centre was the most important speaker in a home theatre followed by mains and sub. So ended up disconnecting the surrounds. That's been my journey.
For anyone new venturing into this hobby, get quality 3.1 and if you miss surrounds get them.
Yes it's not hard to add surrounds but if they are becoming a barrier to a home theatre, drop them.
In fact I would even say, Get a high quality flagship soundbar but that won't be well received for this thread :)
I had to run 3.1 for a while coming from 5.2.4. 3.1 is very cool, and absolutely agree about getting quality LCR, but definitely not the same as 5.1 for movies. IMO, surrounds adds a TON to movies and isnt overrated. But definitely easier to run 3.1
This is exactly the setup that it is for ;) All set up now and working a treat!
What device are you running the Stremio app itself on?
Straight off the Android TV. Runs fine. I've got a TCL C835
Whats the regular price?
A quick google will tell ya it’s fairly catchable around the mid-$500s from a number of online retailers. If this receiver meets your needs it does seem to be a decent price here.
According to Gerry $999
tell Hardly Normal Gerry he's dreaming !
No he is still finding dumbos
and people get locked out of forums pointing this out.
I have the Denon AVR-X1500H 7.2ch and I'm really happy with it. Bluetooth is handy.
Wish 7.2 on sale too.
The AVRX1800H is $759 through the good guys commercial, which is a great price (although with a quick search, it has been cheaper). Retail is $1,300 and seems to normally sell around $900-1000.
Picked this up last week, don’t forget cashback if available from one of the providers.
Bought one recently. Love it. Samsung S90C has an issue with it though in its latest firmware. S90C won't see any of the receivers inputs with anytime+ enabled. If you reset the tv, it will work again for a couple of weeks.
what is anytime+ ? my AVR works well with S90C
sorry auto correct. Anynet+
do you mean CEC? I use tv remote to control avr volume and I can select avr input to tv (like hdmi but it shows avr model number). then I use avr remote to switch between 4 hdmi inputs. My avr is yamaha 3064
@bazingaa: Yeh, it wont see the Denon's connections with anynet+ on after a period. Apart from resetting, nobodies figured out a fix yet.
Would this work with active speakers? Or only work with passive?
Thinking of using this with two active speakers and using the soundbar as the 3rd speaker with a bass?
Does anyone know good deals going on any 11.2 good amps?
I've been wondering if I should upgrade to something that supports DTS HD, how does that work when most DTS HD tracks are in 7.1? Does the AVR natively do the downmixing to 5.1?
Yes. Depending on what configuration you're running, and what audio setting you choose, it will down/upmix to your configuration.
When I click the link I'm getting $595
