Sharp make horrible microwaves. Save yourself the hassle, spend the extra $ and buy a Panasonic.

Work purchased a Sharp, after 3 units failing with differing issues (1st one stopped heating food after 3 days, 2nd unit would randomly switch off whilst in use <1 week old, 3rd unit died (no power) after a couple of weeks use)..

Good guys were fine replacing them but after 3rd unit agreed to refund so we could buy a Panasonic. 3 years later the Panasonic is still working fine.

    • Which model? Keen to replace my current microwave

Have had the Sharp 32L SM327FHS for a few years now. No issues so far, been working great

My Sharp microwave is 17 years old. Works the same as when we first got it. But who knows, maybe newer Sharp microwaves aren't as good.

      • My Sharp microwave is also 17 years old. It isn't defrosting evenly like it's used to and according to the solar inverter it's drawing closer to 1700W instead of its rated 1100W. From these accounts it doesn't sound like they're what they used to be, so where do we turn for a solution?

Im not sure the solar Inverter method of measuring a single appliance's power consumption is close to being accurate.

    • I recently bought a Sharp microwave (flatbed, 1200W) and it's great! Best microwave I've owned.

    • Work Sharp we have been using last 16 years, still strong

Sharp were great back in the 90s, not any more.

    • +1

Yep, always made reliable products back then.

  • Great feedback, this is what I come to OzB! Great discussion, thanks guys.

My parents have a SHARP microwave from the early 2000s still working

  • Panasonic FTW.

I used to agree, just replaced my old Panasonic after 17 years of heavy use, with another Panasonic. The new one feels cheaply made and doesn't work as well. While still just OK, feel very disappointed with the new model

I think that's just the times we live in these days.

Came here for the recommendations since my Samsung one is slowly dying (not heating as good).
Seems like the consensus is to buy a Panasonic, Sharp is crap and fails and LG will drop my wifi out which is a pain when i have so much home automation.

    • I've heard from various reviews that the new LG Neo chef doesn't heat well either.

Used to like Sharp products until they were sold to a Chinese company. Quality dropped significantly afterwards. Their tv panels are used by different Chinese brands nowadays.

  • My sharp Microwave is 13 years and going strong. Recently changed only because my wife wants a bigger microwave

  • Anyone have experience with newer Samsung models (last few years)?

My 15 y/o Panasonic inverter has peeling paint on the inside roof and on the turntable track and is probably slowly poisoning me…

    "Kilowatts: 1100"

That seems rather excessive, any deals on a nuclear power station to go with it? /s

It's almost 1.21 megawatts! Great Scott!

  • This Russle Hobbs is the Amazon Choice product. It's $210 (9% off). Apparently 300+ sold in the last month:

Russell Hobbs Microwave Oven Family Size, RHMO300, 1100W Power, 34L Capacity, 10 Power Levels, 6 Auto Cook Menus, LED Digital Display - Stainless Steel Finish, Silver/Black https://amzn.asia/d/0TjUNTR

    • Is that a referral link, or just a shortened?

      • +1

Shared link. I don't get anything back from buying or recommending on Amazon. Not that popular or on social media anymore. Just coy & paste the description to find it on Google

  • Whats wrong with the kmart ones, I bought one in 2017 and its going strong no problems at all.

Heard sharp isn’t as great as it was before. I recently bought this 23L Panasonic Inverter with a turntable for $249. Very spacious inside and the microwave itself isn’t too massive. Mum had a similar model but 32l, and it has held up very well. Same can’t be said for the flat bed Panasonics according to recent reviews.
