hmm i have been looking for a carjack but looking at the reviews about not being able to release slowly does concern me. Does anyone own this model and have any long term feedback? Thanks

Just that alone makes it a hard no from me. Seems like a huge safety issue.

Sounds worthy of a recall. I can think of exactly zero scenarios where it's acceptable for a jack to drop at speed.

      • How is it a safety issue?

Possible the force of it dropping into the jack stands Vs slowly

@leeroys_dad: If the jack stand has been positioned properly and set at the correct height, it won't be an issue.

As mentioned in my comment below, it is more difficult than normal to release slowly, but you do get used to it.

I've had one for a few years, and it is pretty touchy with letting the car down - you barely have to touch it and down it goes. It can go slowly, but it seems to have a very narrow window in which to do so otherwise it's a pretty quick descent. I haven't ever dropped it hard but there's definitely potential to do so if you're not careful.

I've owned this same jack for a few years and can confirm that the release valve it is quite stiff, which means you have to grip/turn the handle bar hard to lower it.

I've added a small amount of white lithium grease to the valve gear which has loosened it up slightly, allowing a bit more control over how quickly it releases.

The thing drops so hard. I've use it once and never again.
