I absolutely rate this. Perfect Asian bachelor appliance. Perfect rice for 1 in ~10 minutes.

      • Perfect in cooking texture/quality or just quantity?

I used to be skeptical about the value of the more expensive Asian rice cookers but after converting, I really can taste the difference with the basic sub $20 COOK/WARM models.

Haven't got this specific one but mini rice cookers are definitely worth it. Picked up this on sale at the time and it's been absolutely amazing.

Saw these - thought they looked cute but absolutely toxic. Covered in paint, PTFEs and mystery alloys.

Looked cute, might die of chemical poisoning later

Looked cute, might delete myself later.

        It's fine. I got a water filter /s

      • Yes sure, but save $9.

    • covered in paint

No more toxic than many other appliances. The only part that comes in contact with the food is the non stick surface.

      • Its all sub-par looking mystery-factory produce. No quality assurance. I bet this would stink as it fumes off
I wouldn't chose to eat off it.

What advantages do these single purpose appliances have over, say, a frying pan, which I can also afford?

If you have a big kitchen, you get some extra space you can fill up :)

You can make weird videos cooking food in bed - this is what I’ve seen them mostly used for. But I’m guessing maybe people in sub-optimal housing where they may not have easy access to a stove. Maybe caravan or powered site camping. Good for quick easy single serves. Primarily gimmick factor.

Thank you, I hate everything you just said

What's wrong with camping and caravans? 😧

        cooking food in bed

Marge Simpson: It's time for bed.

Bart Simpson: You can't have fun in bed.

Homer Simpson: Oh, son, when you're older, you'll know better.

Yeah confirm that these ar good for camping as most are under the 600w mark so can be used with a small power station.

Thats what i'll be using the "noodle maker" for. Hopefully doubles as a mini rice cooker

      • Noodle maker is under 300 watts from what I remember, but I left it at work. I just wish it was 10% bigger so you can fit bigger noodle cakes.

      • Kmart has a mini rice cooker for $15. It's great for making enough rice for one or maybe two people.

    • Are you also a fan of that stealth camping YouTube guy?

    • Thanks was just wondering about the wattage

  • +1

Thats interesting. I might get one to use for other purposes, like heating towels, melting candle wax or warming maple syrup prior to pancakes.

    • That’s a good idea! The wax thing makes sense. I’ve seen people also melt old crayon remnants for kids and make giant multicoloured crayons.

  • Seen alot of these where uni students cook these in their dorm with no kitchen. Can these be hot enough to grill a steak?

    • Looking at the reviews, yes, people have mentioned cooking small steaks and that they heat up very quickly.

      • tempted to buy one at $6 but all sold out in Sydney

        • +1

There’s a few around in random suburbs in Sydney, or at least there was when I first posted, but probably not worth it if you don’t live nearby. Free delivery on onepass though if you have that. I just did a C&C to pick up locally but I’m GC.

300w to grill a steak is a bit delusional imo
you might get close to a broiled steak but if you're buying steak y might as well make it appetising beyond a protein hit

The mini snack maker does great fried eggs, you dont even need to flip them

    Handy for travelling!

Used one of these while backpacking.. so handy to use in budget hotels and hostels.. heats up convenience store foods.. think of it as a portable microwave
