Or just walk into bunnings and get a better one for cheaper

    • Will do. Thanks!

Do you know the full specs of the ARlec one? It doesn't say what Modes is has. "Up to 2000Lm", "up to 7hrs run time" - those numbers need more context!

      • From the review comments on the item, it has 4 levels (so guessing 2000Lm is for highest level, up to 7 hours run time refers to using the lowest level).

        • +5

Yes, sure, that is kinda obvious. What are the actual specs though?

The Wuben one also has three different colour temperatures and is IP64. The Arlec one is IP44. Horses for courses for sure, but I am now interested in the Arlec one; except the Wuben one is well known and tested whereas the Arlec one seems they can't be bothered advertising the specs so naturally seems lower quality.

@seb: I have a cheap one (kind of like Wuben but 1000lm max) and for my usage (working in a room with no light in the evening), it is still gimmicky. Also, at max brightness, my one only lasts about 2 hours. Also, only USB-C to USB-A cable can charge mine, which suggests it is really USB-A but with a USB-C plug. Mine supports solar power charging but it is too slow charging it that way.

These are more like toys to be honest.

          • +2

@seb: Arlec feels like a toy compared to the wuben. i would get the wuben over the arlec any day of the week, way nicer build quality and the warm light is awesome to have if you're using it for camping

I was about to have buyers remorse for a second but I need the magnetic aspect. A good option for sure though.

it's a great light at this price, you won't regret

      • +3

You are definitely getting a better overall product than that. That is a work light, unless you want to go blind you don't use that to camp.

        • +2

Yeah for camping this one looks smaller and more practical - especially with the metal stand and magnetic part. I'd imagine the camping one would be stronger diffusion to be able to look at them without being blinded more.

Or just go to Aldi on Saturday and buy three of these.

I have bought two similar camping lights from Aldi in the past and both didn't last long. First one the USB charging socket broke, can't remember what specifically went wrong with the next one. Have had other Aldi electronic items that didn't last long too.

        • Agree. Their LED candle globes have been rubbish in the past, as was one of their portable solar chargers. Won't touch any of their "electronic" goods again although there is probably some good stuff among the junk.

      • These are great when they are on special too.
I still have a few I use in the backyard most days from when Anaconda had them and cleared them out for $20 each.

      6000K Cool White? Ick

    • That arlec one looks like a turd.
If you don't want your tent to look like a 7/11 maybe go with one with colour temp adjustment like the Wuben.
Also more lumens = less battery life.
The arlec one isn't waterproof, making it pretty useless outside your grandfathers dusty workshop.
The arlec one can't be used while charging.
The Wuben one has a rare earth magnet in the case.

      • +2

Yeah, what most people don't get is lights like these aren't even used at their full advertised brightness anyway. Most of the time medium is more than enough in a dark area, even somewhere between medium and low or low. In a tent at night low is MORE than enough and will run for ages on the Wuben.

More lumens rarely = better in items like these. More lumens generally just means an hour of runtime at max which is useless OR it's 2000lumens for 5-10mins then ramps down to medium anyway.

I agree and would take the Wuben 1000x over this POS Arlec worklight. Not long ago there were some decent little Arlec lights at Bunnings on clearance, these were MUCH more comparable to the Wuben F5.

Yeah, you sound like the classic basement-dweller who only leaves the keyboard to raid mum’s fridge for leftover fried rice.

The Wuben one has a rare earth magnet in the case.

Because who wants to settle for a basic earth magnet when you can flex with the Gucci of magnets - the rare earth! It's like winning a Nobel Prize for collecting paperclips!

    • says run time is 7 hr, surely not at 2000 lumen?

      Aka landfill

I've had things like this go for years. Great for cupboards and little nooks where you need a light when you need a light but don't want to be bringing a light. Got a touch plate one for my pantry… door opens, light goes on.

  • I bought this one for a party the other month, i didn't read the description properly and when i played around with it, the Red and Blue lights come on just like the police..

Would be good for when you're at a campsite and someone is being an idiot to scare them.
Plus a bonus of solar charging if needed while camping.

      same thing but much cheaper
      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0D6NKMFHP

      • I think I paid about $40 each. which is still not bad. Will be passing on to the parents to try it when they take the caravan away.

Just noticed another feature that you can charge your phone with it if needed.

        • It looks like it could be pretty bright with all those leds.
Someone gave me a plug adaptor for my makita batteries, turning them into battery packs. Such a great thing.
