Macleans Toothpaste No Longer Sold?

I've been searching for a particular toothpaste that was sold under the Macleans brand here in Australia. It used to be available from various outlets but slowly started to disappear. Then until about 6 months ago it was only available through Chemist Warehouse. Now even Chemist Warehouse has them marked as clearance online and no Macleans branded toothpaste available in the stores.

I can no longer find anyone stocking or selling Macleans branded toothpaste (except to clear out old stock).

Has the Macleans brand been discontinued/killed off?

I think it originated years ago from New Zealand.

    searching for a particular toothpaste

You didn't name the particular toothpaste you're searching for, only the brand "Macleans".

    • its any of them, I'm looking too and its Colgate that dominates.

Macleans used to be a GlaxoSmithKline product. I'm not sure whether it still is, but you could ring GSK and ask.

    • In a sense it still is a GSK product.
GSK was restructured in 2022 where the consumer health products were spun off into a new company called Haleon. GSK remains as a pharmaceutical company.

Thank you everyone for the fast responses.

I've been able to buy 4 from Amazon.

Woolies, Coles, Chemist Warehouse, local pharmacies here in south-west Sydney have zero McCleans in my (limited) experience. Similar Woolies in Sydney's North-Shore area.

PS: it's Macleans and not McCleans.

      • …and it's pronounced mc-lanes.

        • Thats not how a true scot would pronounce it

Whilst I don't buy that same one you do, I definitely have noticed it getting more and more difficult to find in supermarkets etc. over the years. It's the only brand I can use, due to sloughing with the ingredients of Colgate etc.

Colgate and Oral B seem to have a vice grip on the supermarket shoppers.

  • Hope this is OK since it's the forums and not a deal post, even though it's not Classifieds, but if anyone lives around 2117, I have 3 tubes of Little Teeth you can have for free. My son just didn't like it. PM me.

But yeah I just had a look yesterday and it seems like Macleans is definitely gone, although you can still find bits and pieces on Amazon and at various Pharmacies (probably old stock). Not sure what happens once that all sells through, but there hasn't been any formal announcement anywhere as such.

  • Are you MacLeans showing?

  • When I returned from overseas, I noticed many of my favorite toothpastes were missing. I used to love the old original Colgate flavor, which was really inexpensive at Big W, but that's no longer available. Instead, I picked up Grants of Australia at my local Coles.

Hopefully, buying local will help keep the product in production. I also noticed that Lux soap bars are no longer available, but I managed to find Balnea soap at Woolworths instead. This is also a local product. I found that Imperial Leather, which is the cheapest option at my local chemist, had an odd, unusual chemical smell.
