Once you go Black you never want to go back to Red

    • +4

As a ginger, I find this accurate

      • +4

        Hi ginger, I'm garlic

        • Oh yes, we met in Asia

    • then farking 0 takes it all..lol

    • +2

The black has a weird meaty flavour. Red is better imo.

  • +4

No stock anywhere from last $5 promo

  • Hi all, sorry for being a bit off-topic… Can anyone recommend a decent gluten free option, for a family member? Cheers

    • Nissan rice noodles. Kinda bland though.

      • +5

        Try Subaru

  • How much better is this than the red?

    • +6

Personally I've never bothered, the red / original one tastes good enough already.

Tip: Mix in an egg as it cooks, eat the noodles, then mix in cold rice with the broth to make it a stew, you're eating it like the South Koreans.

      • +2

Well hence why I'm asking. Im happy with the red and the red is cheaper

      • without fail on every instant ramen post some moron posts their recipe "tips" that nobody asked for, acting as if adding an egg to a bowl of noodles is some kind of revelation

    • +2

I like it a lot more because it's not as spicy and has more depth of flavour. My missus prefers the og one though. Worth grabbing a pack and giving it a try, both flavours are good but which is "better" is just personal preference.

    • Tried this one recently but much prefer the red one

  • As someone who eats lots of asian food but never tried instant noodles beyond maggies and migoreng…. is this a good one to try? I go into asian grocery stores and get overwhelemed with all the types_

    • +1

If you can handle the spiciness, this noodles are good to try, they have a chewy texture which I prefer over the Nissan.

    • You can buy separate individual packs to try a variety.
I personally prefer nissin over this brand but I seem to be in the minority.

    • Korean chilli noodles are very spicy. You need to be able to eat hot chilli to survive eating this. And nongshim is probably mild compared to others

    • +2

Try the regular one first. It's my go to instant noodles.

      • This one actually bit less spicy than the original.I really liked the deep flavours of this black one

    • not even going to talk about Maggie… but Mi Goreng is a dry spicy noodle, and Shin Ramyun is a soup noodle, I prefer to spruce it up by cooking the noodle in a pot and adding hotpot meats and some vegetables. Its spicy, but not crazy hot.

  • Is the chili pepper in a separate sachet? I love garlic ramen but can’t handle the spice

  • Any non spicy ones to recommend?

    • +1

Samyang Ramen (mild) is good. It has a bit of smokey flavour and isnt very spicy. I only add half the soup sachet as its quite salty though. It was on special a few weeks ago for $5.

    • Nissin Tonkostsu ramen. Not at all spicy. Nice savoury base with sesame, good for adding an egg to. Some people like to add a tiny bit of soy sauce.

The other classic is Indomi Mi Goreng, which is a dry noodle (no soup, you drain it). It comes with a spice packet but it's fine to leave it out.

Is it always 4 pack. I thought they're 5 pack ones. Shrinkflation eh?

    • +1

Nah always 4 for the premium ones plus higher cost for the multi pack

  • For better instant noodles texture, like al dente instead of the usual overcooking of the noodles, try this.

Alternatively, if you ever been to an Asian Restaurant/Cafe in Asia serving instant ramen, you'll see the chef constantly lifting the noodles out of the pot to cool for a second, then to dunk back in the pot again to cook which has a similar effect.

  • Would love to try this. Last sale it was sold out when I looked.

  • Does anyone know are those black things in the packet dried clams?

    • +1

      From Nongshim's website:

      Flakes
Vegetables, fish, soya bean, wheat gluten, wheat flour, soy sauce, glucose.

      • Thanks! Do you know what is the difference between black and classic ones? I tried both and can’t really tell a big difference to justify the price difference, apart from the black one has a bit more fish taste to it.

        • I just tried them for the first time.

They are not as spicy as the ones in the red packet and the broth is thicker and has more flavor.

  • Same like last time no stock anywhere near me.

  • Went to 2 Woolies nearby and all gone. Must be such a huge hit huh

  • No more at Macquarie when I checked this afternoon :(

  • Went to Woolworths in adelaide cbd and they don’t even stock them

  • Stock will come back after promo ended like last time.

My local has a lot. It's a rather white, affluent suburb. Maybe that's why.

    • Care to share which suburb
“White” & “affluent” demographic don’t eat tasty ramen?

      • Probably applies to all

      • They are more willing to spend on 'healthy' food. Too uppity to eat 3 min noodles, let alone ethnic ones over maggi or other western brands.

  • +1

Local store has about 10 packs left at the end of the aisle.

  • Does anyone know of an online store that lets you bulk buy these or any packet noodle product?
