    Once you go black….oh wait.

    • Say waaaa….

    • -2

      Once you go yellow

    • +2

      You're gonna need a wheelchair

  • Is it really good?

Last deal spicy chicken sold out very quick

    • +1

      It’s not bad
Worth a go at very least

    • It's good for an easy meal that's quite cheap. If you feel like adding cabbage and other vegetables then it's kind of healthy too

      • +8

vegetables then it's kind of healthy too

No instant noodles are health 🤣

        • +1

Adding vegetable does make it healthier, but like you said the sodium content is crazy. Just don't drink all the broth and or don't need to use whole satchel.

          • @G-rig: Honestly, one teaspoon is plenty for wife or myself. There's roughly three teaspoons left over, so you're copping about 25% of the sodium (not counting any in noodle cake/flakes).

            • @Speckled Jim: Yeah that sounds ok, just don't put as much water. I only used half today and could even go less as you say.

Hard once you're a salt monster - hard to not crave the stuff and retrain the taste buds.

              • @G-rig: Definitely less water, I just forget the ml. The bowls we use for these have a pattern, and I just gauge by that. Gotta judge quickly, them noodles are thirsty!
Edit, 300ml semi-boiled water, cover bowl and microwave 2 min. Uncover, stir etc. Yeah, I'm a rebel and I'll never be any good…

      • +2

        the sodium content says otherwise

    • Nongshim Shin is the second best commercially available ramen in Australia; Buldak is apparently the best.

Binging with babish ranked Nongshum black version (premium version) 8/10*. The only ramen to score higher were Buldak, Momosan Tonkotsu Ramen, and ichiran ramen all receiving a 9.

Personally the best broth (for instant/packaged ramen) I've had is Nissin La King Tonkotsu which tasted like having your brain smashed out by a large leg of pork that was fried in a stainless steel wok with a shit ton of MSG. The best noodles I've had are ichiran ramen which is $10, and Marutai Ramen which are $4 which has my second favorite broth; although I haven't tried all the varieties of Marutai so this might change.

      • Those sound pretty good. Getting up there in price some of them for instant good.

You have probably tried these ones, but I also like:

        • Nongshim Chapagetti Fried Noodle with black bean sauce (more of a dryer noodle, don't add much water)
        • Nissin Noodles Instant Tonkotsu

        Good for something different.

        • +1

Neoguri noodles with Nongshim Chapagetti and steak is bagging. Never tried the Nissin noodles but binging with babish and Noodle Journey rates them as 7/10 so could be something to give a shot.

  • +1

The normal red one a bit too spicy for me. Is the black one same ?

    • +7

then this is exactly the one you want, its milder in spice and broth is much more rich, if I was still into ramen(due to health reasons) id load the hell up

      • Cheers, mild Jin Ramen is the spicy level that I am comfortable with

        • +5

This is still quite spicy, it's just got a richer broth which covers the spice a bit compared to the regular one.

      • damn you would think black one is spicier lol.

    • +1

I find the normal one spicy too and I can take this. To be safe, just remove the couple of dehydrated red chilli.

      • Cheers

    • +2

I find the black one only 1/4 - 1/3 the spicy of red, has more dry vegies in the pack and creamier broth. Worth a try

      • Cheers

    • +1

with the red one - try cracking an egg into it, cook for maybe half a minute then stir through. the egg yolk should dissolve into the broth and make it creamier.

put a slice of sandwich cheese and microwave it that also tones it down.

  • +1

Fan of the red but there was an odd meaty flavour in the black I didn't like.

    • +2

That's probably the extra bone broth powder

  • +5

Wait Blacks are now 11 bucks? That's expensive AF.

How much cheaper is it in Asian grocers?

    • +3

      Around 8.99 not on sale

      • Jesus that's expensive AF.

  • +3

This is so expensive for just noodles and chill seasoning, then again chips are like 5bucks a pack as well.

    • +1

Relatively speaking, what else are you getting for <$1.50 per unit these days.

      • -5

        Replacement Lego pieces

  • +2

Honestly I personally prefer the cheaper red variety.

    Each to their own.

  • If cooking at home, I prefer to just buy the noodles from the Asian supermarket and just add chicken/beef stock, onion powder/chili powder. Same thing for way cheaper and less waste.

Add soy sauce, eggs, veggies if you want to be fancy.

    • +3

The noodles aren't the same :(

      • you can't be serious!

I'd question how quickly the broth/sauce can be made on the fly but the noodles??

any dry noodle would be better than the instant packs :D

        • I agree, the texture isn't the same. Perhaps they're not top-shelf like the best hokkien or soba, but these don't turn to mush like many instant noodles.
Please share your suggestion(s) for something similar.

    • -2

      This is the way.

    • +9

Your definition of "same thing" is wild

    • +2

      That's the recipe for Maggi

  • i didn't think it was worth the extra cost compared to the red

    • -1

Not really. Worth the extra even at full cost.

      • Only buy the black one when it's half price in my opinion.

  • Red: 5pk for $5. ~ $1 ea
    Black: 4pk for $5.75. ~ $1.44 ea

    • the question is, is it worth it?

      • I would say yes especially in cold weather.
I have several a day when I have flu.
Add some baby chillies and drink the soup
Make sure to boil the noodles separately and get rid of the oil/water

  • Thanks OP

  • +1

Much better than maggi or other cheap asian instant ones. Hopefully I can grap at least 4 packs

  • Thanks. They are so good.

  • +1

The red one is suitable for vegetarian, this black one has meat ingredients (allergen: contains crustacea, wheat, soybean, fish, sesame seeds).

Long time ago when I tried this black one, the taste was so good and better than the red one. Jin ramen Mild is also good and sweet if you don't like too spicy. Cheese ramen from Ottogi is also my favorite.

    • -3

Don’t drink the entire bowl of soup and you won’t get your max daily recommend sodium intake then

      • +1

That's what I'm saying, good you're paying attention.
(fwiw the daily max should be around 1600mg ideally, a quick search shows AUS 2000, USA 2300mg, no doubt some people have much more).

Only have half pack/mix sometimes, more veg and protein.. good to keep the fat and sodium down.
Easy to make own stock the rest of the time - miso paste and wakame is better if you want a salty taste .

People eating these aren't concerned about health though, I wouldn't have every day or anything.

        • +1

You can have it with raw vegetables which are high in potassium

            • +1

              @G-rig: I don't add
I have raw vegetables as side dish. It will maximise potassium intake.
If you add, some of the potassium will dissolve in soup.

        • -1

I meant you could put the whole packet in and just not drink the soup and you’re probably not consuming your max sodium intake. Most of the salt will be in the soup. Good to see you’re paying attention

          • @illusion99: Plenty of options mate, do as you see fit.

What's the point putting all in and discarding half the soup, just put in half and less water, can keep for other things make with real noodles. They are very strong flavourings.

Raw veg as a side dish doesn't sound great. Of course you don't need to boil the heck out of them like older generations, just add right at the end takes no time to cook.

  • +2

  • +1

No where in south east Melbourne either.

  • +2

Rip seems they didnt order any for this promo cos nowhere has them and the few places that did out of stock as quick as a gift card promo

    • Early birds… do they wait there before the stores open?

  • Don't go to try at Dural, even their site said they have in stock, the staff checked inside, no stock at all.

  • +1

Picked up 2 in my local metro. Was on the bottom shelf and pushed in all the way at the back…

    • maybe someone tried to reserve it and buy it later.

    • +2

My local one, never have stock before the promo

      • They don't have stock even before this promo.

          • @G-rig: We all expected they will have stock coming in during the promo but …………

      • Ok…
I checked delivery a couple of days ago and it showed estimated restock date as 1-Jun but now it just shows out of stock. Maybe no more before Wednesday

          • @G-rig: I walk for exercise. instant noodles can be my fuel.
I don't like Red much. I prefer Ottogi Jin Ramen Spicy
I'm curious whether OP bought enough

              • @G-rig: btw, why did you downvote this post?

                  • @G-rig: I guess you need to downvote Woolworths, not this post. I think there's nothing wrong with this post.
haha… there are many different types of instant noodles. it doesn't have to be shin black. I stocked up jjapaghetti last time it was 1/2 price.

                  • -1

@G-rig: It is just unobtainable where you are, some people have been able to get it.

Mods have already updated description to say limited availability.

          • @G-rig:

            chasing a packet?

            Should buy more 🤣

  • Looks like in stock (online at least)

    • Thanks, found the last two packs in a store near me, I used their stock checker.
This morn I saw a (targeted?) WW Rewards offer in the app .. 10x points on international products and there's a photo of the red nong shim pack.

  • +1

    I FINALLY FOUND IT.
There's a bunch on the bottom shelf at Hurstville, Sydney.

I gave up in South Australia, but after seeing your comment I tried and succeeded. thank you very much
