With nearly a decade of maturation, it presents deep aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum, and cassis, intertwined with complex notes of tobacco, cedar, and a touch of leather. The palate is rich and velvety, featuring concentrated flavours of blackberry, black cherry, and a hint of dark chocolate, all supported by finely integrated tannins. A subtle earthiness and well-judged oak add to the wine's depth, leading to a long, layered finish. This Cabernet has evolved beautifully and is ready to be savoured now for its mature elegance.

96pts Sam Kim

96pts Wine Showcase

95pts Tuesday Cellar Club

Deep ruby colour. Mint, spice, capsicum and blackberries on the nose. The palate was intense, structured and opulent with a depth of flavour, drying tannins, length and moreish acidity.

the description reads word for word from this review of Devitt & Moore Captain D. Bruce Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 from BlindTastings.com.au

      a case of 6 was $720 @ uncle Dans

very tempting for a coonawarra cab sauv

        1. DM market place, not directly sold by DM.
        2. Wonder if Sam Kim is (not)reputable like the Sydney boy "foodie". I guess they have one thing in common, charges for their posts.
        • Take at least 2 points off his ratings imo.

At this price I'd be suspicious that it hasn't matured as well as hoped. Bought an aged, very smooth Tyrells cab sav about 10 years ago. $80+ retail, below half that on sale. It was easy drinking but flavour hadn't developed.

So the label is 80% of the value of the wine?

Sounds about right, especially if you have to resort to paying Sam Kim for a review.

Devitt & Moore Captain D Bruce Cabernet Sauvignon based on search for the description. One thing to note is it's cork sealed.

  • An 11+ year old corked wine.
    Sounds wonderful.

    • "moreish acidity."

      No thanks

    • "moreish acidity."

    • I’ve drunk a reasonable of wine much older than this that wasn’t corked.

The PRC market will think it's a less wine if not corked.

        Screw cap FTW.

        • Actually don’t disagree with the preference for screw caps but I’ve had very few corked wines over the years. Australia has embraced the screw caps with gusto but some countries see them as being for “low quality” wines. Me, the fact I can open a wine bottle easily is a bonus. Now if I can stop the sods in the restaurant putting my bottle of wine out of reach I’d be happy. My view is if you can’t keep up with me then leave me the bottle. Why they think I want to go thirsty until half way through my meal and finish off my Chardonnay with my dessert is beyond me.

@try2bhelpful: Corked wine supposedly needs to be stored horizontal (some science says there's no/little diff), screw caps not so. Probably of more consequence is TCA, which leads to corked wine: https://www.vintec.com/en-au/expert-advice/cellaring-wine/wh… . You'll know it if you ever taste one. Screw cap is far better imo.

            • @Igaf: We had a tasting once where they showed us what a corked wine tastes like. They were saying wet cardboard and wet mouse. I said the mouse would need to be swimming in it before I noticed. However, you could taste the difference.

I also lined up for a couple of tastes of Yattarna. Very nice.

      • Cork is more likely to leek in air than crew cap. it's a better system which most Aussie wineries adapted to. I quite often get a pop from screw cap from old wines, i.e. 10+.

      • What if we get the off wine please?
Polarised reviews on Vino for this Ultra Premium Unlabelled 2013, some said wonderful, some said watery (sounds like off wine because of cracked cork?).

        • you can return the wine for a refund if you don't enjoy it
