    Noob question, whats the difference between different sodastream models?
    I got a SodaStream Play years ago for $1 from eBay
    and have been using it daily

    My sodastream Play needs to push the entire block to carbonate water
    Is this model basically doing the same thing, but just pressing the button instead (still a manual process?)

      Yup, still a manual push button. Also has a new bottle type so you can't use billy bubbles or other gas suppliers as easily, they patented the design to stop people buying much cheaper CO2 elsewhere.

      The basic design hasn't changed in forever. I have an electric one, the only use it that it's fairly consistent, but I'm so used to the noise I know exactly how long to hold a manual one for to carbonate it properly (my parents have a manual one).

    Are there any brands that are cheaper to operate on an ongoing basis? Not keen to be locked into buying name brand gas all the time.
