The idea behind S&S was that they didn't mind losing 10% if they locked you in to a subscription and took the sale off their competitors.
Amazon have deals with the major companies to match wholesale prices on any specials that woolies or coles get.

Having done the sums, they have captured enough market share so, out the door rural and regional customers go.
Amazon is in the "Mates Rates" tax bracket of 2% and has spent billions on a buy back of their own shares, so it is all about shareholder value.

Fair enough they've made a business decision that you aren't as profitable as a metro customer, but the opaque way they have gone about this leaves a bad taste.
Rural and regional customers now have a "Sub-Prime" membership!

4 ply is exactly the same as 3 ply with Quilton these days. Ever since covid their quality has dropped immensely.

    • +1

You're right about the quality drop. While the 4 ply is still oh so slightly thicker and softer, the pack I got, the paper isn't on the roll properly - it's not tightly wound onto the inner roll - just looks untidy (yeah, so I have issues… it bugs me when it's not aligned perfectly lol).

      • Paper falls away from the wall, not almost touching wall. Right? Right!?

        • I don't know about falling away from the wall, but it's sliding off the roll. Put a fresh one up and it's sliding off. Just hasn't been put onto the inner roll properly and wound up tightly enough, so it doesn't keep its shape. It gives me the s*its.

          • @Graffin: Haha, that would be annoying. I was curious about your preference for orientation of a normal functioning toilet roll…

@WhyAmICommenting: Not touching the wall. What freaks do that? Makes it harder to grab in a hurry.

  • Aldi has regular quilton IIRC for 31c a sheet for anyone not wanting to wait for sales.

    • Yes, that’s the go!

    • +3

      31c per sheet seems excessive.

Then I have to carry it around in public, people will know that I shit if they see me. With discreet Amazon deliveries people will never be 100% sure…

        With discreet Amazon deliveries

Haha, for the last year or so every Quilton Amazon delivery was just in a plastic see-through bag. :)

Suggestion for title change for all S&S deals :-

    Quilton 4-Ply Toilet Tissue (30 Count) $19.50 ($17.55 S&S) [Major Cities Only] + Delivery ($0 with Prime/ $59 Spend) @ Amazon AU

  • Thanks op.
Let my butt try this "premium" one. Pretty sure I was using the 3ply ones all the time.

4 ply. = finish the roll quicker

    • Yep, totally agree with that. I'm finding I have to replace them sooner as well. I'll go back using the 3 ply.

    • I also feel they may clog the pipes easier

  • Not going to order these at the moment, due to the rain and the delivery being left on the doorstep.

  • IIRC before Covid, Quilton Gold used to be Quilton's premium product with not only 4-ply but also King Size sheets (12.1x11.4 vs 11x10).

I see they have now dropped the King Size in Quilton Gold, leaving only 4-ply, but you can still get 3-ply King Size rolls.

The sheets also seem to be thinner now and not so fluffy as before Covid.

Quilton have also introduced an eco product, which is standard 3-ply Quilton, but the centre ply being recycled paper.

I find it disappointing that products not only experience price inflation, but also quality/quantity reduction over time.

King size still suits me, being closest to historical toilet paper size, and I can always double over a sheet to provide better than the old Quilton Gold thickness, albeit at twice the cost.

If you have an Aldi nearby……buy the three ply confidence toilet paper…..it is made by Quilton ( exactly the same as Quilton but with a different pattern) and it is $10.69 for 24 rolls
