There are many let's bash liberal posts too
As there should be. They're an ineffective government that gets in by lying and cozying up to large corporation's interests that go against the best interests of the people
You mean like how Labor lie and cozy up to union bosses for the net loss of tax payers, only to benefit the few payed union members?
@Juice-Wa: I'll take it when they save/make us so much money in the budget
The Australian Financial Review (AFR) was satisfied with the Budget delivered by Coalition Treasurer Frydenberg in March 2022. The deficit was $79.8 billion, which followed the worst-ever deficit the previous year of $134.2 billion. Net debt was $631.5 billion, which was 27.6% of GDP – close to the all-time high – and had blown out by $257.9 billion in three years, the worst result on record.
On the table of 116 budget balances monitored by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Australia ranked an appalling 91st.
Compared to Labour the past 2 years
Now let’s compare those budget outcomes in 2022 with Jim Chalmers’ two years later. Naturally, they should be much worse, given global conditions have deteriorated so badly. China’s economy is declining; the U.S. is in disarray; the war in Europe endures; half the OECD is in or close to recession and inflation in G20 countries now averages 21.8%.
Surprisingly, outcomes were not worse. That dreadful deficit was transformed into a surplus of $9.3 billion. The outcome last year was also a surplus of $22.1 billion — the highest on record. Hence, net debt was way down to just 18.6% of GDP. $15.8 billion had been repaid in two years. This was partly achieved by getting spending down from Frydenberg’s all-time highs to just 25.4% of GDP.
Among the IMF’s 116 economies, our budget position ranked 24th, up from that humiliating 91st.
Labor being in government benefits workers, union or not
Not aware of the collusion with union bosses or how it ends up losing $9.3 billion (needed to make it a net loss to tax payers, considering that's the current surplus). Please inform me what you're referring to
It's my belief that taxes are used to support the country and people within it, so such a well designed budget benefits all workers (union paid or not). How "cozying up to union bosses" undoes all the good they do compared to our alternative government, I'm uncertain. Our spending is literally 73 countries better under their governance and other countries applaud us for it.
Why so many can't accept Labor are clearly the better money managers comes down to the media reporting them so poorly. We should be happy that we have one of the best possible governments in and try to quash any corruption relating to unions they may have
EDIT: Apparently we actually get second place (after Canada) when it comes to how well our budget is balanced
Their impotent desperation is palpable, isn't it?
So that's where the former Premier has landed. Maybe she and Bligh can make it compulsory for all Australian banks to support bank@post.
At least one good thing will come of this.
The overwhelming issue is The Pollies are given incredible super AND can access AT ANY TIME when voted out or retire. Reason given for "early Access" is they do not have job security when they leave Also untouchable pension regarded as income if they have a marriage breakdown & need to pay maintenance to former spouses
Look at the plum jobs they get eg …. Rudd embassy in USA Hockey , Beasley on the board of a medical company, Weatherald former premier of SA heads a big agency in WA the list goes on Sad they STILL have snouts in the trough & wonder why they are so disrespected disliked untrustworthy as an occupation
Should they be getting super worse than average? You can access yours at any time, you just have to accept the penalties (put in place so that people won't touch them, so they can have enough money in retirement to support themselves and not be a drain on society/the taxes you pay)
Perhaps they get those "plum" jobs by being competent at their jobs in politics. Kevin Rudd's a gangsta and deserves to be in his role
Your comment feels like whinging about things tangentially related to politics, with no practical solutions or identification of the core problems you're whinging about. Saying that the "overwhelming issue" is politicians getting good super they can access any time is missing the forest for the trees
Is Sophie Mirabella still on her $420,000 for life Commissioner of the Fair work Commission gig? I know the Coalition was appointing dozens of their mates to those type of job but is there no way for Labor to get rid of them?
It would be reported very negatively in the media if Labor were to start firing members appointed by the LNP for no reason, even if those members were bad at their job
You would never see it reported as "Labor: Cutting the Fat! Rids FWC of $420,000 Excess Spending/annum Imposed by Coalition"
Imposing some sort of performance review/KPI's to ensure they're actually doing something in the role would be a good start
Uses principal contractor companies that engage subcontractors. Same principal company rents out vehicles through their second company to avoid any employee relationship. Audit of company checks out.
If that’s not sham contracting then what is? They simply allow it to happen as it works for them. Exemplary government organisation leading by example. Close the gap bs.
Care to explain the neg? Bit off topic but recent beef.
You can't make this up.
Is this what OzB political shitposting has become? "Thing happened. Is bad." No notes, references, elaboration, commentary, or opinions offered, no matter how ludicrous? Sell me on it!
The equivalent of farting into an echo chamber. Sad!
Time to put lipstick on and write some names in your book

Does this mean Oz Post will no longer ship potatoes?
Crony capitalism.
I am so angry about this.
My local Australia Post (which was always busy) has shut due to redevelopment and isn't returning. My nearest post box has also closed (no reason given).
I now need to drive 15 minutes to the nearest post office for pickup, park and queue for 15-20 minutes and then 15 minutes back as the lazy contractors don't even attempt (proven time and time again with security footage) delivery to my residence.
Another $100k+ directorship for a failed politician to attend 6 meetings a year.
that happens
I had a red post box near me that was on the way to home and one day they just removed it and then couple months later removed another one I was using

that's alright
One of the most useless turds in Australian politics
How come she got the role and not Dan!? ;-)
Her departure from politics was a big middle finger to the Labor party who were giving her shit and good on her. No different then quitting your job.
Not supporting politicians, they are all snakes.
But most politicians non retirement age go on to work for big corporates which is nothing surprising. Don't understand the hate.
You're thinking of Gladys, the former NSW Premier.
Thanks
Why does this matter? She was a popular public servant now at a public service?
Better than an unpopular person being appointed to w private role in fossil fuels.
This is not surprising, she is a private citizen on a very good public pension no doubt so she can do what she likes. This is a prime example that demonstrates that a meritocracy doesnt exist. these people are well connected and its the case of jobs for the boys …ugghhh … I mean girls ..uggghh….I Mean them, ah ugh you know what I mean.
Will she get a free Cartier watch as part of her appointment?
The ALP believes in socialism for the privileged. The privileged are the members of the party (The ALP and Unions, no real difference between the two). Socialism is when the government looks after you and gives you easy jobs with extremely high pay (compared to, say, private sector works). State governor and governor general are excellent examples of socialism for the privileged elite.
Being an ALP member/Union member in Australia is like being a member of the CCP in China. "First, let some people get rich". Of course the ones who get rich are CCP members.
The same person who preached the importance of COVID lockdown, worked with government and businesses on using Skype, Zoom etc for meetings for social distancing and WFH.
Then flew business class to Japan for a 30 minute meeting regarding the Brisbane Olympics…
It would be good that she don’t double dip at expense of tax payers whereby she gets similar benefits from both govt and Post! Ask her to do the right thing.
There are many let's bash liberal posts too. I'm sick of political posts, unless their bashing the Union-Labor party corruption.
