  • My partner wanted one of these for our honeymoon at the end of the year so this would be nice to surprise her with!

Do I need anything else to use this underwater for snorkeling? Any recommended accessories?

    • There is the DJI Osmo Action Diving Accessory Set which gives you a full case and floaty handle, not cheap though.

    • +2

A large body of water and a nice aquatic reef.

A floaty handle is a great accessory. Go generic if you want to save $$$. Unless you're planning on going deeper then 18m then you won't need a case.

      • Hoping the entirely non-ozbargain approved all inclusive Maldives ocean hut I've booked us will tick that one off!

Floaty handle is a great shout thanks, will have a look for a compatible generic one. Do I need one of those sealed shell case things?

First time getting an action cam so a bit clueless, sorry!

        • +1

you don't if it's just shallow water snorkelling or swimming… but I like it for peace of mind, and as a sacrifical element in case I scrape it on reef/rocks/etc

      • no, you need one for salt water because otherwise it will corrode the camera over time!

        • Nah, it's fine as long as you wash it in freshwater afterwards. Case is still handy though for depth. I just spent a week freediving with whales in Tonga and got some incredible footage with the Osmo Action 4

    • Have used the original osmo action 1 when snorkelling numerous times until in one day didn't have the battery compartment fully locked in place and got salt water inside.

But yeah no need for anything just the floaty handle will do. Double check all the compartments are clicked in and locked properly.

  • How does the quality compare to an iPhone 14 Pro Max?

    • +2

You will need iPhone 16 Pro Max

    • Not good if someone calls/SMS during recordings. Dedicated camera is better & cheaper ;)
There are ~10 better smartPhones than iPhone

  • +2

Will hopefully get cheaper as the Action 5 and 5 Pro are nearby

  • Looks like the other Action combos are also on sale with the same code. Price for the Adventure Combo comes down to $539.10 delivered. Great deal!

I have this - it's awesome. this is a great price

  • Can one use GoPro accessories (3 way grip etc) on this?

    • +2

The magnetic quick release mount goes to the standard 2 prongs that the go pro has so yep. Screw is same size too. I use mine with a GoPro chest mount.

Osmo Action 5 launching on 28th Aug

    • Osmo Action 5 Pro - Camera Specifications
"The core camera specs seem to remain the same as the Osmo Action 4. The new model will feature a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor and an f/2.8 aperture, providing a 155-degree wide-angle view."

  • damn I just paid $406 on ebay

  • Personally love mine - especially whenever we get a chance to compare to my mate's GoPro (11?12?).

Got the action pack with batteries, just set and forget on my shoulder strap.

  • Legend, almost paid over $450 for one yesterday but decided to do more googling comparing to the gopro.

  • Hopefully Amazon will match

  • I just ordered still, despite someone tagging OOS, seems to have gone through.

    • The website showed 2 left, then out of stock. Then 30 minutes later it was back in stock.

  • Just order despite being marked OOS

  • Will wait for the 5 to come out to see what’s new and hopefully this drops more

  • Will this be good for purely motorcycle dashcam purposes?
Don't need high quality video, just enough to use as evidence in event of an accident.

    • Depends how long you ride for. The quality should be fine but battery life might not be there.

      • Also looking at this for the same use case. What do you reckon is a good alternative?

    • 110% is brilliant for this use.

just make sure you have a 5v power source to keep it charged, but any dash cam will need that.

  • Price from link now showing as $429.00….

    • Yeah, use voucher to reduce the listed price
