Which Online Store for PC Parts?

I'm building a PC. Just wondering which online store you recommend for ordering PC Parts, in terms of reliability, price, shipping speed, etc.
Thanks

Didn't they go to shit after they were sold off a few years back?

    • +1

I don't think I've ever bought anything from them due to the shipping costs.

In terms of shipping, you can't go past Amazon.

For a one-retailer experience, I think Umart/MSY would be my pick based on price. I have only done pick-up orders.

My last PC builds have had parts sourced from different places based on price:

    • eBay Plus sales - Last purchases were in 2019, I think this is much less viable now
    • Amazon - 3camel/Ozbargain deals
    • Remaining/bulky components - Umart
    • GPU - At time of high demand, so wherever was available.
  • Amazon for warranty issues. Umart/MSY can be somewhat 'troublesome' if you need to return under warranty. I've had good results with Centrecom. Computer Alliance has amazing shipping speed to Adelaide. PCCG also pretty good but rarely competitive prices IMHO.

Umart have been great with returns in my experience, based on the Brisbane store. The Logan City store was hella dodgy a decade or two ago, they are okay now.

      • Nice to hear

  • My places for ordering PC/Network hardware are generally:

    • Amazon
    • eBay
    • CentreCom

I use Mwave as well, although, they are slow for delivery, but often good for pricing.

All have pros/cons. I try and get the cheapeast price from those 3 and they are generally all pretty quick to a Regional Area. Depends on whether it is AusPost or Toll.

  • I remember buying computer parts from a reputable shop in Sydney's West, around Greenacre area, which was established many years ago…pretty sure they got started before year 2000. I can't remember the name anymore…does anyone happen to know the name of that shop and what happened to it? Did it get rebranded? or closed its doors due to the pandemic?

Whichever is cheapest for each part including postage you need.

Gerry's is still the best in terms of highest prices.

Still the best in rejecting genuine warranty claims.

The best in keeping covid money.

The BEST in increasing cost of living?

  • Any or all of the above.
Also depends how urgently I need the parts.

Cheapest isnt always the best.. Some have been reported in threads here having nightmare issues with warranty etc.

  • +1

If I need it urgently, Amazon. If I don't, whichever store is the cheapest generally. I haven't had any issues in recently years with anyone, all of them just package up parts and ship out, it's not going to be more than a few days difference in shipping.

I'll buy off ebay if it's cheaper on ebay than their regular store thanks to a coupon. But that's a rarity these days.

amazon these days would be my go purely for 1) speed of delivery and 2) ease of warranty.

I got stooged by umart / msy before - been shopping with them on and off for the last 12+ years - and ESPECIALLY stooged by computer alliance many times ranging from GPU warranty difficulty once many years ago, to issues that were developed over normal (and actually very light use) of their in-house pre made rigs.

  • +1

Umart, Scorptec and Computer Alliance are my go to, always been shipped/ready quickly and haven't had any issues yet. If any of those stores are local to you it might be worth picking them, probably getting better support in person anywhere you go.

    staticice.com.au

easier to just use pcpartpicker set to Australia.

    • yes, staticice!

  • Depends who has the cheapest price for the specific part(s) I want. They all have different sales at different times, and they're all reputable stores.

You can go to https://au.pcpartpicker.com/ and look up the part you want and it will list the current cheapest price/store.

    Amazon, Centrecom, Scorptec

  • The one with a physical presence in your area, besides Amazon

  • I bought from heaps of stores for my last build - catch, umart, ebay, pcbyte, mwave, scorptec, amazon

  • anywhere which is cheaper for the part I am looking for, I even buy most parts used like my ex-miner RTX3090 which I got for $1300 back then from a random Ebay seller, still works well after using with ML work.

  • When I built last it was when ebay plus used to have all the good 20% off sales. Amazon was also good. staticice.com.au is good for price comparison. I got the bulk from ebay and drives and fans and cpu from amazon.

  • JW has physical stores so I support them.

BLOODY GOOD Q KEEP IT COMING!!

I have used Centrecom the most, Scorptec are also great (but I am in Vic). I have also ordered from Mwave which the item was promptly sent.

Purchased cpu+mobo combo last year from Pccasegear and it took ages to send (plus horror stories from the internet to add to my anxiety after the fact), Pccasegear are also generally more expensive than other places; I don't recommend them these days.

I voted for Centrecom in the poll since it only allows one option.

Amazon you'd want to make sure when opening your product it is actually new. Many reports of people being sent second hand items. I've never had this but I just buy cheap stuff. Have also ordered things like replacement laptop motherboards & hdd pcb's from Aliexpress just fine.

  • You dont have to buy your bits all from the one store!
