  • The Moab Speed 2 GTX look cool, I will be upgrading when my old Moab 2 GTX Mid need replacing

  • What’s the difference between the 3 and 3 GTX?

  • thats the cheapest ive ever seen MOABs

    • +1

Got two pairs of Moab Speed GTXs from DC Hype outlet store Adelaide 1 month ago for $30 each.
Merrell store was next door, selling for $129 which I thought was good.

      • Gold badge for you!

        • However, a 45km hike in the Flinders Rangers have my concerned about their longevity. Very comfortable though.

          • +1

            @corremn: Agree.
Most comfortable shoes I've ever worn

          • @corremn: As long as they are Vibram soles they will last. I've clocked hundreds of KMs with my MOAB 2s

            • @Lucille Bluth: Yes Vibram. A few parts of the grip have broken off, but it was very hostile terrain.

  • Couldn't resist and bought it….

  • MERRELL Men's Moab 3 Vent Hiking Shoe are $99 (was $199) as another option

    • What’s the difference between the normal vs Vent?

      • Waterproof vs not waterproof

        • Cheers!

          How about Vent vs GTX?

          • @Gingura: The GTX is the waterproof one. Vent is not waterproof.

Get waterproof, the number of times I have encountered river crossings and saved me having to take off my shoes and socks was a godsent

And make sure they have a Vibram sole

  • Are these good for the snow?

    • Not really, given how vented they seem, they're the opposite of "good for the snow".

Also you'd probably want to look at boots, not shoes.

  • These any good for trail running, or mainly hiking?

    • Don't run in these. Get actual trail running shoes

    • Yeah I would say no to running, they are heavy shoes.

  • No ankle support

    • Do your research on what provides protection against ankle injuries when hiking - the footwear height does very little - and many folks incorrectly feel that mid-ankle boots do anything, which they do not - you need a FULL (above ankle) boot for that.

You will get far more ankle roll protection from bracing/strapping, a quality midsection shank in the footwear to stop torsional twisting & use of hiking poles.

  • Are these good for holiday with long walking in all sorts of terrain?

    • yes, good choice. they are allrounder hiknig footwear - generally touted as the worlds top selling hiking footwear. Very serious folks will look down on but they're regarded as solid/average at worst in all measurable criteria, so a good choice.

  • Great shoes - have the MOAB 2 an also MOAB mid-gtx still in great condition. Took the mid in snow in Norway and pretty surprised it held up considerably well.

Was gonna get these just now but my size is sold out booo
