OPTUS Plans Pricing - No Loyalty

What's with Optus plans lately - limited plans offering, high prices, no respect or loyalty discount.

Story:

Been with Optus for over 10 years, Added my gf, now wife to my account over 9 years ago. Slowly got a 3rd service as data only added when it was $10/month. Since 2 years ago, they've forced the 'Choice' plans onto us, and as a 'loyalty' bonus gave a $20/$15 discount on both plans.

Last year the discount ended, and was planning to move to belong, much better value and discount. Their retention team decided to re-add the bonus.

Now Optus has jacked up the plans pricing again, and my discount ended… I contacted support again and asked if they can continue my discount. After being told straight up no - I just said I'll move then. They immediately responded, this chat has been forwarded to the Retention team….

Why do I have to jump through hoops just to get decent pricing on mediocre service. Pretty sure Optus would be much better having the better prices from the start. New users signing up get much better prices already…

Rant Over.

    They're counting on lazy tax.

The retention team offer is a common pattern across many different services - utilities, internet, insurance, etc.

Some marketing/sales/product team is getting a bonus based on number of new customers. So they prioritise that. It’s the same across all industries now, sadly

This isn't no different when I worked in CS and Tech support 7+ years ago with Optus.

While loyalty is thanked, there's really no point fighting for an offer or some kind of loyalty offer. No harm in asking to keep the deal or offer something equal or better value, but to argue with the rep is not worth it. Just port to another carrier with a better deal.

New customer deals come and go and the amount of customers I had on a daily basis disputing to extend their new customer offer was quite significant.

Point is, you signed up for a offer, you agreed it will last for X months or X years, once that time is up, you have the option to go or stay.

    • So annoyed they literally have only two sim offers on the website. used to have small plans from 20 to 99. Guess I'll need to treat it like NBN and churn every 12 months…

      • What do you mean? On the Sim Only Plans section of the website there's 4 choices, ranging from $50 to $82 per month.

Loyalty? These days? Only from your dog.

It's so easy to port out, just do it.

  • see how far you get by just saying `yes'

Optus isn't charging more than its competitors. It isn't making a huge profit. It sets prices which go up every year like the prices of everything do. Then they try to arrange who pays what so they lose as few customers as possible when they do that.

You want lower prices than they can afford to charge everyone and still make a profit. You think you're entitled to them. Tough. You aren't. Customers getting a lower price than they can make a profit on don't pay the bills and generate a profit for shareholders, which is what Optus exists to do.

If you can get a better price somewhere else, just go there, and stop whingeing to Optus and us that "loyalty" should entitle you to a price they can't make a profit on.

This is OzBargain. Loyalty counts for nother here.

  • Still beyond me why people still decide to opt into using Optus

i actually just signed up today for the new pixel phone, got my number ported over. without even asking they gave me 25% the bill every month for 12months for "loyalty" lol

  • Well, they keep changing plans and upping prices. Some people like you complain so they give you the old price and you stick around for years.

Others forget/don't care so they make money from them.

Why would they change anything? You're still with Optus at end of day even though you're unhappy with them, so clearly it's working.

  • Similar story here, 12 yrs with them, Jack all offered to try keep me when I reached out, ported out to Belong
