why do westfields have valet in the first place

    • +9

      Because idiots pay for it.

      Great business model.

      1) Block off existing parking spots. No cost.
      2) Hire minimum wage workers.
      3) Market it as a premium five star hotel like service.
      4) Pander to the ego of those who think they're important executive types.
      5) Have T&Cs for damages caused by minimum wage workers.

      • a shopping centre near me shut down their valet recently

      • You basically described Bondi folks, so this probably makes millions at Westfield Bondi. LOL

it's like any convenience, for some, time is money. For me, I used to use it during Christmas time when shops were packed because a couple extra bucks to not have to sit in the carpark stressing for ages was enough incentive for me.

to not have to sit in the carpark stressing for ages was enough incentive for me.

Replace the stress with handing your keys over to a complete stanger.

I used to use it during Christmas time when shops were packed

        Prime and OnePass solves this.

      • sit in the carpark stressing for ages

You sound like an amateur shopper…

        • Gerry approves. He hates the pro shoppers.

        • I mean, I'm talking years ago, pre 2020. Now I only purchase things delivered in a recycled cardboard box.

Why on earth would you let a random at a shopping centre drive your car?

    1) Enjoy the unlisted driver excess when the random clown damages your car.
    2) It's gross. They'll be touching everything in your car. Did they wash their hands when taking a shit on their lunch break?
    3) Enjoy getting shit stolen from your car.

Why on earth would you let a random at a shopping centre drive your car?

So they get more practice in and get their licence earlier

Not sure why the title has NSW as a few of the stores listed are in VIC. I'm in VIC and got the email.

    • I thought Doncaster looked out of place in that list! I don't know Sydney very well but I'm sure they don't have a Doncaster.

  • Not sure why the title has NSW as a few of the stores listed are in QLD. I'm in QLD and got the email.

    • VIC too….

This is also a great service if you need any coins and valuables cleaned from your vehicle.

What happens if you drive a manual? Are they going to be able to drive it?

    • +2

      Can they even drive auto?

      • Last time I was in the US, most of the people working as valets were foreigners (South Africans/South Americans mostly), probably because they struggled to find Americans who could drive manuals.

I still don't understand how so many Americans seem perfectly fine with letting a stranger drive/park their car. Must be a cultural thing.

    • Who reads manuals these days?

  • Gonna be awks when i pull up in my kia picanto

    • Why?

      • Oh, um, it's a joke? Picanto's are cheap, so it would be out of the ordinary for a car like that to use a valet service.

        • Meh, $20,000 for a car isn't really "cheap". It's probably worth more than the average car on the roads (at ~10-11 years old).

  • Thanks! Received the email!
