Re-Direct Ads Taking Me to Scam Sites

Hi all,

Last day or so if I leave ozbargain open on Edge when I come back it's re-directed to a site "blessedbreakthroughs dot cc" that serves up a bunch of different scams from Telstra to Aldi etc. I've got a bunch of other tabs open and it's only been the ozbargain tabs where I've see this happen so assume it's coming from an ad served here?

Thanks, will try that, but thought it'd be good to alert the site that one of its advertisers seems to be doing it.

firefox + ublock origin will make your general browsing experience much more pleasurable

For any dodgy ads, mods may be able to block certain dodgy/unsupported ads from the upstream provider. See @hamza23's comment below:

If you (or any other member) could report the landing page to us, if it happens again in the future, then we can send it to the upstream provider so they can block/remove the rogue ad.

Feel free to use Twam or email to contact us with those details. - Source

The web has adverts? Oh yeah ,… just checking my logs and ozbargain is trying to do popup notifications. Are those ads?

Are you sure your browser isn't infected with malware?

I'm not sure how an ad could redirect the page from ozbargain to another in the way you're describing without you clicking anything. Unless you mean a popup? The tab itself should remain on ozbargain.

Yep, it's a forced redirect from an ad (have a google, it's a thing), not a pop-up, has happened 3 times on ozbargain in the last 24 hours, nothing on my other 10 open tabs.

If that is true, this sounds like a massive vulnerability. Imagine what someone could do with this.

        • Generally the good ad providers don't allow the ads, sometimes one slips through though. Happens a lot more on dodgier sites like torrent ones etc. With browsers as they are nowdays, they can't really do much other than open a page, you'd need to click to accept/open/download something to do real damage (or fall for the scam info it's displaying).

    Yes I'm getting those too.

Same, got one yesterday but Avast picked it up

      • Also happened to me on mobile a few days ago, got directed to a scam website without being aware I clicked anything.
(I assumed I accidentally clicked something until seeing this thread)

I took a screenshot because I was going to ask if anyone else had it happen…

  • Getting the reply from the upstream supplier

    • The rogue ad might be coming from Confiant, which has been reported
    • SafeFrame has been implemented and deployed to majority of the traffic, and they'll continue to monitor

Hopefully that would resolve the issue.

  • Just got redirected to scam website, whatever causing it is still alive, this is the second occurrence this week. It is definitely not looking good for Ozb.
