    no love for region WA?

    • Unfortunately, Virgin doesn't fly direct to Bali from Perth.

    • +1

Isnt W.A. already god's country so no need to leave?

      • +4

        I think you're wildly misinformed

      • -1

Think you're talking about Queensland mate :p

    • +2

Always found it funny NT and WA are closest to Bali yet Virgin don't have direct flights from either. Plenty of others though and about $10 cheaper for those dates. So much closer and less fuel but only $10 cheaper.

      • +4

I think the route is heavily saturated already, even though Virgin and Garuda no longer fly here. Perth is very well serviced by multiple Jetstar, AirAsia and Citilink (Garuda's LCC) daily. The planes don't get much rest with most flights only stopping at each end for 45min-1.5 hours to refuel and load the next lot of bogans on board.

I think Garuda wants to come back but they lost their slot during Covid. Every single time Garuda posts on Facebook, no matter what topic they post about, the comments are absolutely flooded with "When are you coming back to Perth?!?!".

Not having Virgin do direct flights to Bali from here isn't that big of a deal.

      • +5

Perth has way too many options and deals to Bali than any other city in Aus. I flew Jetstar last year for $450 (2 adults 2 kids) return..! Can't really complain.

      • +3

Virgin applied for slots recently, as did Qantas for the same slots, the Australian Government department that manages slots (International Air Services Commission) in February this year, awarded the additional slots between Perth and Bali to Qantas (Jetstar), so they can't fly this route as they are not authorised to.
The application that failed is can be found here: https://www.iasc.gov.au
Either way, it doesn't really matter as Perth has more choice to Bali than any other city in Australia.

        • -1

          Not as simple as that.

QF Group (under JQ) applied for the remaining slots on offer for regional airports. JQs proposal is ADL - PER - DPS // CNS - MEL - DPS. VA in response propsed ADL - PER - DPS // OOL - PER - DPS.

The problem with VA was that they were never serious about their proposal and asked for their Perth tag flight to be granted as domestic flights (on JQ it would be international). IASC said no, it has to be international as thats the treaty and agreement and thus Qantas group won effectively by default as VA had an invalid proposal.

      • NT and WA are closest to Bali yet Virgin don't have direct flights from either.

Virgin already making a mint out of servicing many mines in northern WA.

Im more curious why they don’t just try do a pilbra region to bali flight schedule for all the FIFO workers that do that anyway.

  • $299 for BNE

  • Thanks OP - booked some dates from BNE.

    • Did you book with virgin or through a 3rd party site? Looks like the deals are through jetabroad, but reviews aren't looking good.

    • what was the price, i've checked multiple dates and they are all $500+ return

  • +1

I really wanted to visit Bali this year, but am hearing increasing reports of Dengue Fever.. There's lots being discussed on r/bali over the past 4 months so, at this stage, I'm actually looking to avoid going.

I wish this wasn't the case because this is "onehellova" deal!

    Much love, OP!

    • +11

Not going to Bali because dengue fever risk is like not going to Australia due to possible kangaroo attacks (statistics: in Victoria along last year 5900 recorded kangaroo attacks. In Bali last year 2000 dengue fever cases.)

      • +6

I had no idea the data looked like this.. I really appreciate you putting this into perspective for me.

      • +2

5900 is wildly under-reported. I mean, would YOU risk embarrassment reporting about the time a kangaroo kicked your ass? I think not.

        • +2

I actually had no idea there was even data on the number of Kangaroo attacks, let alone that figure in one state!

        • +1

do we have data, how many times same person reported kangaroo attack?

          • @OzeePlay: The first time you get laughed out of a police station for reporting a kangaroo attack is also the last time you report such an incident…

      • +1

anecdotal but i know of four people who have been to bali in the past few months and one of them got dengue fever

        • +1

I also know of one person who went to bali last month and got dengue. She was in hospital for a week and docs said if she gets it again in her life, it could be fatal. I feel dengue is also heavily under-reported in Bali.

      • It might not usually be much of an issue but there is a significant dengue fever outbreak in Bali at the moment, would not be so dismissive

      • Where did you get the 5900 number from? Can't seem to find anything about it, seems a little high, unless you count road kill.

      • +2

        Link to 5900 kangaroos attacks.

      • this is wildly misleading including the +12 that probably liked this to justify purchasing these "cheap" flights. Sheee'lll be roiiite

    • +3

So much negative reports from Australian media about Bali. Makes me think, it’s controlled by tourism here, fearing of losing competition. But just came back from Bali last month, had an amazing experience, locals are so polite and helpful. Felt so relaxed and refreshed after the trip. Just use common sense, like going to any other place and you will be fine.

      • If the tourism industry here is concerned about competition, they should start by trying to offer some value and not just trying to rort people at every step.

People go to Bali because you a better experience and far more value for your money.

        • The first time we went to Bali was for exactly this reason.

For the amount of money it was going to cost to holiday here during school holidays we were able to take the kids to Bali instead and stay in a luxury resort. They absolutely loved it and we've been back many times.

Agreed the media here is obsessed with running negative Bali stories.

    • +1

There's lots being discussed on r/

Pro tip: The Internet is filled with Karens complaining about stuff so the content is heavily biased towards the negative. The 99.9%+ of people who had a good time don't get online and complain about it, they just get on with their lives.

  • Dumb question, can you use velocity for these (promo) flights ?

    • +3

Yes but you will lose money by doing so

  • Looking for flights during the April school holidays, bit expensive at the moment, hoping they will come down a bit in price.

    • same here - I have been keeping an eye out but not sure they will have any. Sale for March has just been and now it's May and June. I am looking from Sydney and can get a return for about $700 pp

      • Yeah I am getting same pricing but no check in luggage and not direct flights and total travel time around 11 - 12 hours which is not great. Cheaper in January but that's the rainy season.

        • +1

Take a look at Garuda. It includes luggage.

          • @Bottom Dollar: I was checking them this morning, I cannot see anything less than $1100 return for 14/04/25 - 23/04/25 for 6 people.

          • @Bottom Dollar: Garuda hands down the best on this route. Full service and 30kg bag allowance.

        • We've been in January many times. Never had too much rain. We love going in late January when still school holidays and just as everyone else comes back to work after Christmas. Got good deals on flights by booking early. Being away for the annual Australia day political bore fest is also good.

  • +1

thanks. booking done! Why is it so cheap from Brisbane? strange..but good for me!

    • +2

Who needs Bali when you can go to surfers paradise for fifty cents?

      • I just got back to the Gold Coast yesterday from Bali, whole family and the whole family was sick for days. .. and i had this exact thought, as did 2 of my friends. Also, You can relax on the beach in surfers without being sold junk every two minutes.

  • Thought Virgin not flying Adelaide to Bali anymore unless it's holiday period?

    • I think they are still waiting on a delivery for 12 planes before going direct from Adelaide again so these flights would include an east coast stop.

  • +1

Good price, but found it so hard to book a flight that far in advance! Next May?:<

  • +3

Who is Jetabroad? Never heard of them and curoius how they can get such cheaper prices compared to anyone? I jumped into the fee rules and wow, I wouldn't go near them. Even an update to a time change they can charge a fee and email it through to you. If everything thing is fine for your flight and no changes in 9 months, but……..

  • -1

Just be aware they dilute and add methanol to shots of spirits and then you'll get pick pocketed and have a horrid time finding your way back to the hotel.

If you're picking up cheap flights to hop somewhere else there is no transit visa in the airport so you need to pay for the visa and of course you won't have USD for that so you'll get ripped at the counter then you'll be in a really bad mood heading for your connecting flight only to find out you also need to pay a departure tax in usd and get ripped on the exchange rate again just to add salt to your wounds.

I wouldn't go back personally, have fun tho. Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam is much better..

    • +1

Stay at resorts. Don't go to pubs there

      • Yea it's a much safer option, but I prefer seeing the world and was used to SE Asia as it's safe and friendly. Bali I found was definitely the worst of the lot bar Manila.

    • Haven't had the bad experience you describe so can't agree with any of that BUT

Thailand, Phuket in particular are very underrated in my opinion. Bali always seems to be first of mind when travelling SE Asia, but I actually have had far better times in Phuket with my family.

Definitely worth considering if you like the culture. Bali seems far more commercial every time I go. Still great don't get me wrong not saying it's rubbish just not as cultural as it used to be.

      • +1

Phuket has crims running the beach reserving spots, loud Russians, and a disgusting red light district right in the open. Also the bed bugs. Never going back

        • +1

Plenty of lights some are red yes, not so much of a district than a street easily avoidable. Bali equally full of loud Australians lol..

Thailand hasn't recovered since COVID, was there in January would still take Phuket over Bali any day. Malaysia is a hidden gem, the government caps the price of fuel so inflation never hit there, 3$ cinema tickets was one of the highlights, paid 35$ here last week..

        • Phuket has crims running the beach reserving spots

          Bro get out of Patong…

It sounds like someone who came to Australia, spent their whole time at the Cross then complained about all the trannies and the hobos…

      • On 10 August 2024, AirAsia started flying direct to Phuket from Bali.

So, you can fly direct to Bali with VA, fly direct to Phuket from Bali and return direct to Oz with JQ from Phuket.

      • -1

Phuket was the worst place I've seen in Thailand.

        • -1

I have made 21 trips to Bali, but I have never been to Phuket.

          • @klrrider1: Thailand in general is much better than Bali though, so it's not all bad. :)

    • On the note of the visa… Odd what you're saying. You can pay $50 AUD or 500,000 rupiah. It doesn't end up being that different… You definitely don't have to pay USD, and you shouldn't anyway because $35 USD is more than $50 AUD

      https://bali.com/bali/bali-visa-indonesia-entry-regulations/…?

      • Shouldn't have to pay as you're just transiting to the departure terminal. It was USD before may have changed.

        • Yeah I'm not a fan of countries which charge for transit, but the US is something like $160 for a transit visa, or $21 USD for a VISA WAIVER!! Madness.

          • @Ibz: Really, I always thought it was standard procedure just take a turn to departures without clearing customs. Bali was the first time I got hit with the cost of time and money, I originally thought I bought the cheapest fare through to the Philippines.

    • I'm not sure where you were drinking but in many trips to Bali have never had an issue.

      • Maybe I was unlucky, was some night club whisky coke, pickpocketed left, cab pulled up beside me I jumped in realised I had no money, got out of the cab after a minute told him I couldn't pay, I was trying to find my hotel on Google maps, cab driver swiped my phone and drove off. 12 years travel Asia mostly drunk, Nah Trang, Bali and Manila were the worst for safety, Kuta was the worst for pestering, every cab beeps as it passes you, every shop owner selling the same crappy fake shit trys to literally push/pull you I to their shop. Have a walk around the Chatuchak market, the biggest in the world probably as see the difference in relaxation and lack of pestering.

        • Only use bluebird taxis in Bali. Their app is great and they always use meter and are reliable.

Kuta does not represent Bali as a whole. Bogan central.

  • +2

It's $431 from Hobart and $568 from Melbourne. Make it make sense.

    • haha, i hadnt noticed that!

  • Surely you are better flying melb-brisbane-bali, no?

  • Jetstar seems cheaper for a lot of those dates from Melbourne, just FYI.

    • Yeah, the only price here that is a deal is brisbane, maybe canberra/hobart too

      • It's good for Hobart - due to the extra leg most flights out of Hobart end up costing a reasonable amount extra.

    • Adding luggage/food ends up the exact price for me

  • yikes, 2025!! got excited but then realised

  • +1

Good price for a quick winter getaway. Thanks OP

  • Amazing! Got a wedding in May. Worth upgrading to Biz Class with points?? Photos of aircraft look underwhelming lol

  • Thanks OP. Booked MEL/DPS for June; $1250 for two people with bags and exit rows both ways.

  • Booked 2 adults, 2 kids, average price per person was $250.

Luggage kills it at $85 per bag, per direction. But if $150 pp each way, its still great price! Thanks OP!

  • +1

I just got back to the Gold Coast yesterday from Bali, whole family was sick for days. .. and i had this exact thought: why not just go to the beach in Surfers Paradise. You can relax on the beach in surfers without being sold junk every two minutes..and if you sneak a couple of beers in your bag nobody will care (unlike in Kuta / Legian) where you have to buy something to almost even be on the beach. And either way a beer will cost you thr same ~$4.

    • why not just go to the beach in Surfers Paradise

Because it's cold and everything close at 5pm?
I'm not a fan of Bali either, but the idea you are somewhere warm and foreign and cheap where everything is open all night is appealing. Personally I'd be doing Thailand. It's better than Bali in every way.

  • Do people really plan this far in advance?

    • +2

Thats a yellow card against your ozbargain badge

    • well, the price can get x3 when it gets closer, and I have been guilty of paying premium prices. Unfortunately, I can't book that far in advance.

  • +1

Thanks got 4 tickets. 2 adults and 2 children for less than 1500 return. Canberra to Bali

  • Damn, think i missed it. Brisbane links seem to be all around 600 retrun now.

    • yeah same, i've checked around 10 dates and all $500+ at least….

    • Missed as well :(

  • Thanks OP. Booked a winter 25 escape from Canberra. (flying from Sydney) Winning. Now to find a great deal on a hotel
