  • I'm getting $145 - 12 MONTH UPFRONT BIG BOSS BIRTHDAY Valid to NEW, & EXPIRED MEMBERS

Sure current members are included as per your description?
I'll ask at front desk anyway but yeah

What is the reasoning for such an exorbitant admin fee?

  • +5

They ** should get a better admin process, this isn't 2001 and you don't have a massive paperwork pile to work through.
Increase their prices and act transparent.

    • +4

I think its for people who cant add. They see $145 and dont care about the $88 cos thats admin lol.

      • -1

        88 is a 'lucky' number
        .

      • +1

        It really is.
"oh, a whole year for 145!" and then it's the admin fee to top.
Admittedly the total is cheap per year even if the infrastructure is not top of the line like ClubLime or whoever.
But taking advantage of people who seek opportunity for a better self is definitely not the game we want in Australian marketing πŸ‘Ž

      • Anytime Fitness charges $99 joining fee + $99.95 access pass fee.
      • Snap Fitness charges $89 upfront fee
      • Fitness First has a $60 join fee + $10 account service fee
      • Plus Fitness has $99 joining fee, $59 access fee (but $0 activation fee promotion LOL).

Etc etc. While it is shit to charge extra, $88 is actually not terrible considering the base price is so cheap. Most of the above are around $25-$35/week and still charge more fees. They just call it different things.

        You are on point
but I think all concious consumers see through it, and those who aren't tuned in, get bit with hidden charges.
I love Snap Fitness' recent ads, "4 weeks for $4" yeah but you'll fork 200 to join? ☠️

      • Clublime $0 joining fee

        • $39 "activation" fee for me when I looked - admittedly better than most.
$0-$19 at Crunch normally but then they have an "annual membership fee" so they're still getting money from you just in a different way.

          • @pennypincher98: Really? Maybe it depends on the state. I'm in VIC and there's been no activation fee when I sign up online. Unless you are referring to the fee gets charged to your card upon sign up, which contributes toward your weekly membership cost

        • Who cares about the $88 admin fee, $233 total is better than $1000+ totals for any other gym near me!!

          • @BatmanAU: why not put it in the total cost?

            • @The Milk Man: I'm not an expert in this but I guess because "admin fee" is itself considered as an expense on the balance sheet?

              • @trantonz: I agree, certain people and companies may be able to claim the admin fee as a tax expense, say rehab providers

Wow this is such a cheap membership! Less than $20 a month. Unreal. Shame isn’t available in Sydney. I am still lucky as I have fitness passport but is much dearer.

    Admin fee $88

Best joke of the year. But will admin fee applicable for existing members too?

  • -7

The heck is derrimut? Only of value to 1% of ozbargainers or those like me that will take up a membership and never use it.

    • It started in Derrimut, they now have 26 locations.

  • Just buy and own a exercise bike for less.

    • The variety is nice, an exercise bike gets pretty boring after a while. Having other people exercising around you is a good motivator too.

For anyone looking to get into basic exercise, $230 for a year is a good way to try out some different equipment to see what you like as well. Personally I wish I didn't buy an exercise bike and bought a treadmill or rowing machine instead.

    • Just buy and own a bicycle for less and make money delivering. We are so smart

Super cheap, can't find value like this at any other gym apart from planet fitness. I feel the ppl that are negging these deals are other gym owners who charge $20pw.

  • Does anyone know what the street address of the Port Melbourne one will be?

Looks like 77 Salmon St Port Melbourne judging by their promo video of them driving to it. $145 memberships still results in a Lamborghini SUV it seems.

    • "$145 memberships still results in a Lamborghini SUV it seems"
No, it's the $88 fees that pay for it
      .

  • This vs club lime?
I've been with Derrimut for 4 years and now looking for a new place.

    • +1

If you do the classes then lime might be worth it for you

  • OP, can you please help? Is this the cheapest it has ever been? Thank you.

In terms of price, yes it’s the lowest it’s been. But in terms of value in terms of the duration, there was a $149 + $88 fee for 14 months recently, which checks out to be $237 which is $3.95 per week.

The deal at the moment is ~$4.48 per week.

      • +1

Thank you very much. I saw that and missed it by a pay cycle. Another excuse to wait one out. Will stick to Darebee exercises for now.
