Possible Facebook Marketplace PayPal Scam in Progress?

Yes, might have joined the club

Selling on fb marketplace. Buyer has overpaid a small amount via PayPal goods and services. I clicked refund in the PayPal transaction. They then sent the correct payment. Is there anything further they can do? Their address is also an "educational institute" and I vaguely remember these being hard to track after being shipped to. Package is nearby and debating whether to cancel and retrieve it. There is seller protection plus tracking that I've added.

Sounds like a scam to me

  • Can you cancel a shipped item?

    • Sunday post, so can just pick it up from auspost or cancel. Then refund.

  • Why would you take Paypal on FB if you're nervous about scams?

    • Seemed like a small amount <$80 but they will effectively double up. The overpaying didn't register with me as a scam.

    This is pretty common.

Basically they'll overpay, claim no goods were delivered resulting in PayPal refunding the money to the person and you being out of your goods.

You should google certain behaviours on Google regarding this suspected scams.

The other common one is the claim that 'someone' is picking up the item on their behalf.
