  • What,,,,,you have to pay to run. (profanity) that.

    • It’s a fund raising event..

Oh so the title should be Fund not fun. I have never seen a smiling jogger.

      • -1

Why is running required to donate?

        • +1

It's not? It's an opportunity to raise funds, you can donate directly.

      • -1

So why is it pay more to run more then?

    • You don't YOu can do it for free. You just have to keep track of your own time.

  • +13

Jogging is the worst! I know it keeps you healthy, but God, at what cost?!”

(FWIW I am doing this - just look out for the dude at the side vomiting up kfc zinger box 500m into the event)

Yeah don't KFC-load beforehand, eat it during the event. You're less likely to vom and you might score a sponsorship for next year.

    • Its the Colonels "secret recipe"

    Cheaper to catch a Bus

  • This might be better. $5 entry and $2 per ride and right at the Garden City Westfield.

    • Edit: $2 per ride coupon, not per ride. One ride needs from 4 coupons.

    It's a fund raising event.

But I'd really love to see some transparency over the event:

    1) $ revenue for the event
    2) $ donated to seperate charities.

It might be a better option to run the same course (except for the Gateway Bridge section) the day after, for free, and donate the same amount to a charity you like.

That way, you can ensure 100% of your donation goes to the charity.

I've just noticed something that may tell how it's funded. They give you a shirt, which means the people entering can't claim the entry fee as a tax deduction (as they received something physical for the entry fee).

The organisation behind the run probably can claim a tax deduction when they submit the pooled entry fees, as a donation, to the charities they have selected. Which, at the company tax rate, is worth 30% of the entry fee, or $17.70 per entrant who is paying $59.

As long as the cost of the shirt plus the cost of organising the run comes to less than $17.70 per entrant, there's potential for the organisation behind the race to make a small "profit", by way of the tax deduction they receive for donating the proceeds.

So it's entirely possible they are donating 100% of the entry fees received to charity. I suspect much of the costs, like advertising, were donated.

I am not an accountant nor a lawyer, however I have been part of a couple of not-for-profit organisations, and looked into what was required to become a tax-deductible not-for-profit organisation, so donations to those organisations would be tax-deductible.

    • Last time I checked City to surf donates $0.5 of every 80$ to charity, it more for fun

Oh great! I can get one of those T-Shirts to wear pretentiously around for the following 3 months when I go out for my single heard mocha latte.

  • Linkt toll road corp have worked out a smart way to charge pedestrians too, under the guise of charity
