Quokka Net are a new ISP. Could not find any reviews or much info, other than their website.
I signed up and was charged $1 immediately on credit card entered from online sign up. Took just over an hour to connect (530pm sign up)
You would have to contact them to arrange a specific sign up date.
For whatever reason I had to refresh page after selecting plan. As the $1 promo was not showing up at checkout initially.
Haven't checked speeds properly on PC yet. From mobile it seems fine though.

Anybody looking for a quick churn, they have the best average price right now between 2 - 4 months for 100mbps with this promo.
2 months = $44 p/m
3 months = $58 p/m
4 months = $66 p/m
5 months = $70 p/m
Pretty sure all the higher tiers would be cheapest too with $1 for the first month.

No dates given for how long this offer is available for…

    Hi All,

    Dan from QuokkaNet.AU here.

Thank you for listing our nbn promotion Try-us-for-a-Quokk. I wanted to post to clarify some of the details.

QuokkaNet.AU was launched as an nbn RSP last year (2023).
We are a small(er) RSP looking to grow our customer base.
We are 100% based in Australia. All our support team are working in Australia.

The goal of the Try-us-for-a-Quokk promotion was to encourage people looking to connect to the nbn or switch from their existing provider to try us with no major commitment.

We stand behind our product and as such wanted to give people the opportunity to try us out (with no lock-in contract).

It is our hope that if you switch to us, you like our service and prices and stay connected with us.

We have not set an end date for the promotion at this time.
We are happy to see how it goes and if the promotion works for both our customers and our business, we don't see a reason to end the promotion in the near future.
We reserve the right to end the promotion if we find it is being abused or as per our business needs.

We have put some limitations on the promotion to ensure that we are able to handle new sign-ups and make sure the service we provide is great.

We have capped new sign-ups for the promotion for this month to 35.
    We may increase this.

    Limited to new sign-ups only.
Limited to one use per customer/location.

We have excluded the 1000/50 plan (known as Rock Around the Quokk!) from this promotion to ensure the quality of our network remains high.

As mentioned in the post, our prices after the promotion are the following:

nbn Fixed Line Plans (FTTP, FTTC, FTTN, FTTB and HFC)

    • 1000/50 - Rock Around the Quokk! - $108 per month (included data - subject to our fair use policy)
    • 250/25 - Three Quokks - $98 per month (included data - subject to our fair use policy)
    • 100/20 - Two Quokks - $88 per month (included data - subject to our fair use policy)
    • 25/5 - Two Quokks - $78 per month (650GB of monthly data)

    nbn Fixed Wireless Plans

    • NEW 400/40 - Super Flying Quokk - $98 per month (included data - subject to our fair use policy)
    • NEW 250/20 - Fast Flying Quokk - $89 per month (included data - subject to our fair use policy)
    • 100/20 - Two Flying Quokks - $88 per month (500GB of monthly data)
    • 25/5 - One Flying Quokk - $78 per month (500GB of monthly data)

    Cancellation
We hope to keep you as a long-term customer but understand that sometimes things don't work out.

You are able to manage your service(s) from within the portal.
From the portal, you are able to submit a cancellation request (options are Immediate or End of Billing Period).

We ask that if you decide that you want to cancel your service you reach out to us (or cancel within the portal) at minimum 3-4 business days before your invoice is due.

    CG-NAT and Static Public IPs
For the price point that we are setting our plans at we are not offering Static Public IPs.

It is our plan to roll out CG-NAT in the near future to conserve our IP space.
It has been our experience that for most applications CG-NAT is well-supported and has no negative impact on services.

If you need a Static Public IP, unfortunately, Quokka Net might not be for you.

    Quokka Net(ting)
We can assure you that no Quokkas have been harmed, or will be harmed by our Quokka Net(ting).
All Quokka's are free and un-netted (and also have really good Internet wink).

    Backhaul
We have a wholesale arrangement for our backhaul from our data centres to nbn POIs.
Unfortunately, our arrangements are commercial in confidence and I cannot disclose them.

Our parent company owns and runs our network.
We have our own equipment in our data centres and multiple transit and peering links to connect you to the Internet.

I'm sure there will be plenty more questions.
Please feel free to reach out to our friendly team.

Give us a try, we do great Internet.

    Cheers.

    • I recently switched from an RSP which routed via Hawthorn, less than 10km from my home to Flip which is routing all my traffic via Sydney which significantly impacts my Plex from inner Melbourne to inner Melbourne. Are your POI's located in Victoria?

      • +1

        Hi Jimbuscus,

All nbn services in Victoria are terminated into our data centre in Port Melbourne VIC.

Your traffic would be routed out of our VIC links.

        • Is there a preferred time of day to initiate the order?

Edit: I might just try ordering right after midnight.

          • @Jimbuscus: Hi Jimbuscus,

You can submit your order anytime.

Just add a note when you submit the order if you need it done on a particular date.

Our team works Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM, but one of us often checks the system outside these times.

    • Not sure why all this is hush hush about which provider you're using, people will find out and seems someone already has, you're parent company is url networks

  • Terms do state 30 days notice must be given for cancellation.

So how do you do it if you only want the first month for $1?
Order the plan and then cancel it right away?

    • +3

There are 31 days in this month, you can wait until connected and then call them to cancel it.

  • +4

Does not seem to mention anywhere on their website whether or not they place you on CGNAT, and if you can opt out if so. Shouldn't have to contact them to find this info.

    • +6

      CGNat is the devil's routing

    Quokka Net

It is illegal to trap Quokkas…

"Under the current Biodiversity Conservation Act the penalty for harming a quokka is a maximum fine of $50,000 and five years' jail."

  • +1

anyone know what network these guys are using for backhaul and ip routing?

    • Yes same Question please

  • they have the best average price right now between 2 - 4 months for 100mbps

Why wait 2 months? Can't you give your 30 day notice on the same day your service is connected?

    • +5

30 days notice has to stop. its unethical

      • Yeah, but in this case the first month is free ($1), so I guess it's fair.

        • Image the sh**storm if power retailers tried a 30 notice obfuscation plan to limit people changing.

          • @mudguppy1: The already do, my gas provider didn't transfer my connection until the end of the billing cycle. Super annoying.

These type of comments don't matter anymore. You can have a support team in manila and as long as your internet is solid, you won't need to phone them.

Most people are happy with one of the 5 big providers. Not really a competitive deal here

  • I just put my order in for the NBN to be transferred from Flip NBN to Quokka and will update on how the transfer goes.

  • Just a couple small things I've noted after submitting an order yesterday

    • Applied yesterday morning for FTTN, as the rep mentioned doesn't seem to be staff on weekends so the order will likely be processed today as I'm guessing no automated way to push the order through (this isn't a complaint just something to note)

    • Despite this the billing date is set to the 11th of August and the invoice shows the cycle 11/08-10/09, could make those coming over for the $1 month the leaving in a bit of a sticky situation with the 30 days notice.

    • Open Ticket button leads to nothing. It says "you can submit a ticket by selecting the appropriate department below." but follows with "No support departments found"

    • Just to update: Got connected at 10:05am here in Perth but couldn't find the PPPOE username or password anywhere in the portal and hadn't received an email with it after receiving an email saying the order had been activated. Gave Quokka Net a call and they were helpful, apparently should have received an email with the username and password shortly after but they forced it through sooner and now all connected. Speeds seem normal for my FTTN (100/20 and achieve full speed thankfully) pings in Rocket League actually 5ms better than Launtel (55-65ms instead of 60-70ms)

Websites seem to think I'm in Melbourne however (Kmart, Good Guys etc)

      So far so good!

      • What network are they using. can you go to www.bgp.tools and under the You are connecting from can you advise the AS number

        • AS Number 56087
          Website https://www.url.net.au

          • @MBix: cheers for that yeah, parent company has same pricing just not the $1. Probably comparable to Leaptel id say similar upstream blend to GSL. has CGNat so not gonna be an option for me

            • @SpeedAU: Just looking at urls network website https://url.net.au/affiliates
can just see the info for yourselves

              Do you Run the Network?
Yes, in the past several years URL Networks has invested heavily in building and expanding its network. We are proud to run our own Layer 2 network and have Points of Presence (POPs) in NSW, VIC, QLD and WA. We have backhaul relationships with many of the large carriers and this allows us to provide carrier-agnostic services.

          • @MBix: Thanks MBix

CGNAT and no option to opt out or buy static ipv4 that's a deal breaker for me so this won't work for me

            • @hailstorm: I don’t actually think I’m on CGNAT as yet, but I have no real idea how to check. Sounds like it is on the way to Quokka though so I probably won’t end up sticking around longer than the $1 month

              • @MBix: Simple way to find out

https://www.whatsmyip.org/ or any similar page which will show from which public IP address your request is coming. The shown address is always a public IP-address

After that, login to your router and look at the status page. The router will report which WAN IP-address it has got from the ISP. If it shows the same IP-address as whatsmyip everything is OK

If on cgnat the router often shows a WAN IP address like 100.xxx.xxx.xxx

I had churned out of Quokka after less than a month, having paid upfront for a month, they just attempted to charge a second month. I emailed them after churning as I normally do to get confirmation that they are aware I churned out.

Have emailed them now and will update, card didn't have funds so was fortunately rejected.

    Edit:

    Good afternoon Jim,

Please accept our apology. It appears that the service was cancelled on the 10th as per your email, but the open invoice was not cancelled. I have since done that and removed the credit card details manually from our systems, so this cannot happen again.

A copy of the canceled invoice is attached.

Email was responded to fairly quickly.
