good size u can sleep inside on hot days

    • zero budget christmas vacation

  • Anyone got this?
Any good? And if it’s energy efficient

    • -1

I found energy efficiency of the labels to be total bs… I got a similar hitachi model which has 3 stars, but after measuring the usage over a year it came out be about 40% LESS than what was on the label* through normal usage over that period which would immediately place the unit on higher energy rating. Its also worth noticing the actual marked on usage for the rating and see how much that converts to the $ paid over electricity.

      • +1

The energy efficiency is calculated with an empty fridge, your fridge will be more efficient once you have put a bunch of items into it as there is less air volume inside.

        • If that did make a difference, which I doubt it makes a measurable difference. It definetly wouldn't account for 40%

          • +5

@Mrgreenz: The thermal mass of a fridge-full of already-cold items makes an enormous difference.

            • -5

              @johnno07: Not according to physics.

              • +2

@Mrgreenz: Unless you leave your fridge SEALED FOREVER, then the act of using your fridge lets the cooled air out. So, practically speaking, having your fridge full of cold items increases the efficiency of said fridge - according to physics.

                • @johnno07: The difference in volume-of-air leaving the fridge full vs non full is minimal, and the contributed energy loss is no where near "enormous".

                  • +1

@Mrgreenz: Stackexchange has been through this in exhaustive, door-opening, kitchen humidity estimating, detail.

                    • @rumblytangara: "SUMMARY: Unless I'm missing something here or you're doing very odd things with your refrigerator, you'd at most save a couple dollars per year by keeping your fridge/freezer full. Moreover, stocking up on water (or other things) to fill up fridge/freezer space won't save you much at all unless you're keeping it stored there for a VERY long time, since it costs so much energy to cool the water in the first place."

                      Pretty much

                      • +2

@Mrgreenz: Well I guess I stand corrected. There is a bit of a difference between filling your fridge with water for the sake of experiment, and having it full of real-world items you're going to need to cool anyway - but, whichever way you slice it, it certainly does not to be an enormous effect (as I so confidently stated). Thanks for teaching me something this evening!

        • I dont think you understood what i meant here, so let me clear it up. My fridge has 3 star rating and it says consumes 540kwh per year. When i measured it over the course of 1 year of everyday usage, it had a figure around 420kwh for 12 month period. If you check energy rating website, for a fridge around 600-650L volume 420-450kwh gives about 4 stars.

Also it is again worth considering the rough per year for electricity between consumptions than just the energy rating. For example, if 2 similar fridges have 2 star and 4 star but the first model costs $1500 more I would not bother as the difference in running costs would take long time surpass the initial cost of $1500 you paid extra.

We bought this end of last year also from Costco. Very happy with it so far. Dead silent, spacious, works without any issues.

Fairly average review if you go by Choice

  • Probably better off waiting for a Fisher & Paykel like this to go on sale: https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/fisher-paykel-rf…

For those that don't know … F&P (non healthcare devices) are now just a brand of Haier

      • Does that mean their quality has improved? Used to avoid them at all costs, was just nightmare story after nightmare

      • If by 'now' you mean more than a decade ago.

  • do you have a copy of the review?

Absolute madness not buying a fridge in 2024 without at least a water dispenser… Just so handy.

    • +12

some people don't have plumbing to their fridge, or like my case, i prefer my separate water filter tap

      • +2

There are water dispensing fridges with tap-filled reservoir bottles instead of plumbing

The ice maker feature is particularly useful, the chilled water is handy as well

      • There are models that don't require you to plumb anything

        • +14

…if i'm just going to fill up a reservoir, why don't i just fill up a bottle? same effort, and the bottle can be carried around the house (like put on the kitchen table)

Also, just means there is another thing that can break on the fridge.

I don't know, if someone asked me "do you want more space in your fridge, or do you want a water tap and reservoir", i would pick more space….but that's my personal opinion.

          • +1

@whitepuma: moreover cleaning reservoir is a hassle. I too didn't like any water/ice dispenser, either plumbed or not.

I am okey with having separate bottles and ice trays whenever I need.

            • @CrypticM: It's as hard as cleaning a Tupperware, I clean mine once month or so by simply putting it in the dishwasher. But then again, I don't find cleaning Tupperwares hard.

          • @whitepuma: You do realize that a bottle can't just provide ice whenever you want, right?

The water reservoir in a fridge takes f#@$ all space… if you're fridge is THAT full all the time, it's not ice you should be worried about. You need a bigger fridge!

Also, plumbed or not, the cold water dispensed from fridges are 'meh' at best. There's always an after taste on those things. So yeah, I have a water reservoir in the fridge so I can have ice cubes/crushed whenever the mood strikes without having to worry about filling up the stupid trays AND I also have water bottles in there. But that's just me. You do you ;)

            • @educalifa: You really got offended by my comment ey.

Its ok, your welcome to your opinion.

              • @whitepuma: nope. just disagree with it due to the points I singled out

      • You are right I guess about the plumbing… It's not hard though generally, at our last place we ran the small white tube all the way through the back of the cupboards over to the fridge area.

Just so handy, would be painful to go back now I reckon.

    • any recommendation for a water dispenser fridge with automatic ice maker?

      Things White People Say.

  • Looks eerily similar to the Hitachi model i have but without the auto ice maker. But very pricy given it has no ice maker.

Beware that Bosch fridges are some of the lowest rated fridges, of the big name brands. I guess they're made by a third-party or something, and then stamp the Bosch Brand on them…

Canstar rated Samsung really highly.. just google any reviews or customer experiences on Samsung fridges longer than 1 year and you'll rethink your trust in Canstar.

      • Fair, Canstar can't be trusted alone.
But as another user posted - Choice gave a pretty poor review of the fridge too (43% expert rating)… But you have to pay for Choice to see their review, so I posted Canstar instead.

A year ago I bought a Stainless Steel dishwasher SMS4HVI01A/38
3 months later front panel had a patch of corrosion. Took 2 months for Bosch to acknowledge and replace it.
So beware of potential issues. Stainless steel is not as good nowadays maybe due to costs optimisation?

    • I've found with Bosch its worth paying a bit extra for their made in Germany models which are usually series 6 and above.

      • That was series 6 dishwasher actually. Made in Turkey

        • Hmmm I thought the SMS4etc indicated a series 4? Googling the model number all the returns I could see said series 4? Regardless you'd expect better from a Haier let alone a Bosch regardless of series.

          • @mauricem: Sorry, my bad. Just went downstairs to check - series 4 indeed. I can't blame Bosch for cleaning dishes and wifi app works great, but yes that rust stain on the corner where panel meets control unit block was a surprise. I have a feeling they use not a full stainless steel element, but may be a normal carbon steel with some sort of stainless steel dust sprayed all over? who knows? I won't be surprised considering how big corporations are cutting corners to increase the profits nowadays
This is the defect that appeared after 3 months of using this brand new machine

  • How is Costco’s delivery? Can you pick a date and do they install for you?

Bought this a year ago off appliances online. It's dead quiet and cools very well. We wanted one that was reliable and didn't have any problems. So far it's done exactly as required

  • +2

While I highly rate and recommend Bosch washing machines and dishwashers, I can't say the same for their fridges. Bought one to replace a troubled Samsung - but had even more issues than the Samsung (which was very surprising!).

Finally got a Mitsubishi fridge (almost 4 years old now) and have been extremely happy with it. But you'll have to pay a fair bit more for a Mitsubishi.

    • If the Mitsubishi's had compartment layouts that met my needs, i would buy them without a second thought.

Panasonic's layout is exactly what i am looking for but hard to find stock anywhere.

      • What layout are you talking about if you don't mind me asking?

        • I need the vegetable draw to a single long compartment instead of two separate ones that many french door fridges have. Also need the freezer compartment to not be a large draw. I don't care for water dispensers but the non-plumbed ones that uses up the fridge storage space for holding water is a no-no. We need our side door storage.

Got a few other requirements like it being a black fridge to suit my decor and other things which I won't bother listing.

When I looked for suitable fridges that would fit in my space, it was down to Haier and Panasonic… would have happily paid almost $4k for the Panasonic had they had stock. As it is, I went with Haier… will see how it goes. Their washing machine that we've been using for 5yrs now has actually been good… not a single issue that wasn't user fault. So I'm hopeful the fridge will perform as well. But I'd still like the Panasonic fridge I was eyeing but couldn't find stock.
