Hisense HS2100 2.1 Channel Soundbar $149 C&C / In-Store ($144 via Price Beat Button, C&C Only) @ The Good Guys

350

I just noticed a price drop on this 2.1 channel soundbar. Decent ratings for the price: https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/reviews/hisense/hs2100

I got the price to $144 by using the automatic Price Check: Price Beat button on The Good Guys website.

The soundbar is the same price on The Good Guys eBay store. I wasn't able to get the price lower than $144 on eBay with my current promo codes.

NOTE: Delivery is currently listed as unavailable on The Good Guys website. However, delivery is still available via The Good Guys eBay store to all parts of Australia, excluding QLD Far North and WA Remote.

      Try googling?

RRP is $249 (from my understanding). The Good Guys had the sound bar on sale at $199 last week, then increased back to $249, and now down to $149.

Are 2.1 of any use? Isnt 5.1 the way to go? Else stick with thr tv speakers

Do what you like tbh - what sparks joy?

Regardless of how unimpressive a cheapo Hisense soundbar (three things in a row that are against sound quality) is going to be, it will still be better than most TV speakers. For starters the drivers will be facing the viewer, instead of facing the back wall and resulting a load of reflected sound between the TV and the wall.

      • I'm wondering if TCL is the outlier here because the sound from my C845 is good.

        • +3

Why the neg? I've got C845 and I'm happy with it's sound. Don't think these cheapo bars are going to be that better to the stock sound.

          • +1

@cherpu: Same my C845 has good sound out the box, but playing Dolby Atmos content, Plex or Stremio it becomes quiet, tempted to go 5.1, 9.1.4 or 11.1.4.

          Good compared to what, though?

There's no magic sauce that can really turn around the constraints of very, very small drivers that are facing either straight down into the TV cabinet, or firing at the back wall. Either way, you're getting a huge load of reflections. In isolation, it might sound okay, but compared directly against a dedicated sound system (way bigger and higher quality drivers, not reflecting off strange directions) it's probably going to show some shortcomings.

Flatpanel TVs went as thin as possible to sell better, the consequence of this is that space for speakers practically disappeared.

The thing about audio though is that it's incredibly subjective. Some (possibly most) people are happily oblivious to graduations in quality. Which is why people can happily wear Bose ANC or Marshall headsets, but then audio nuts will spend thousands on wired open back speakers at home.

You won't know the difference unless you listen for it, and compare to other setups. But if you're happy, that's the important thing.

          • @rumblytangara: Agree. It's about difference in perspective. To audiophiles someone like me comes across as happily oblivious. I on the other really struggle to find logic with audiophiles spending a fortune on tech.

To me music is just like another language.

Spending money on tech without playing an instrument or understanding of music theory is like, listening to a person from another culture and appreciating their accent and articulation, without understanding what's being said.

I'll rather put me energy and money in understanding what's being said.

The same could be said of people who are prepared to fly out to follow rugby or cricket matches but don't play (i.e most fans). Or spend 5K on TVs without a background in cinematography. Or buy original artwork without being an artist.

Loads of hobbies are expensive. I know people who've spent tens of thousands on their systems, and then talk about stuff that I think is a bit woo woo (cryogenic cables). Not for me, but it's good that they have a hobby that they enjoy (and afford).

                @rumblytangara: You are right!!

If I could afford, I'll buy ALL the tech.

Argument I made, is what I tell myself to not feel bad about my broken finances. God give me enough money to be able to afford (and brag about) cryogenic cables, don't care what they are for, just give me them. Aaaahh!!!!

        • There's no replacement for displacement.

You really want minimum of 3.1 so you get the centre channel for dialogue.

      • -1

Not really. I have had surround sound for over 30 years and now have 7 channels plus 2 subwoofers so have quite a bit of experience.

A "phantom" centre channel can be created by the front left and right speakers and in my experience its very effective. If I had to give up a speaker from my system it would definitely be the centre, because its loss would cause the least impact.

Edit; forgot to add if the TV or soundbar does not have surround sound decoding ability a centre speaker cannot add any dialogue or other benefit at all anyway.

    • It’s almost as if there shouldn’t be any option for lowest tiers

  • I don't have good experience with this Hisense soundbar.
I bought around 2 years ago.
It died promptly after warranty expired.

Price appears to be back to $199? Still available at $149 at the eBay store though.

What's the consensus of this vs the Panasonic SC-HTB688? Already have the panasonic, potentially looking for an upgrade…

That would be like deciding whether to dance with your sister or uncle.

  • Guess ill just stick to using headphones with the PS5 when watching stuff. The comments aren't real encouraging

Bought and used, definitely worth the price tag for me. Not sure why people are so averse.
